rin itoshi is creative in all sorts of ways… except when it comes to romance.
with all the paparazzi and the cameras preying on the streets, the two of you had decided to just stay in and watch movies together in bed for your fourth year anniversary. a basket of snacks, two letterboxd accounts, and andy samberg on the big screen. this might just be the life.
rin mindlessly fishes out the box for something to chew on when he gets poked by something sharp. he hisses, retracting his hand so fast, even you almost got whiplashed.
“what’s wrong?” you ask, popping a chip into your mouth.
he feels around the basket for it before taking out a push pop ring, pouting and glaring at it as if it were a person.
“awe, poor baby,” you mock, gently taking his hand in your own before giving his finger, “is this where it got you?”
rin huffs before looking away and withdrawing his hand with haste, but you don’t miss the red hues in his cheeks, highlighted by the brightness of the screen.
he looks down, the push pop still in his hands. his eyes flit toward the screen, “amy santiago, will you marry me?”
his body moves before he can even think, and suddenly he’s presenting the plastic ring to you, teal eyes big and adorning.
you stare at him, and for a second, he thinks he might have messed up.
but then you raise your left hand, “yes.”
rin gulps as he pushes the ring in, gently so that your skin doesn’t react. then, you extend your arm and examine it.
“cute, huh?” you say mindlessly.
rin takes your hand and gently kisses your knuckles, and you don’t miss the way he blinks rather rapidly—something he only did when he was nervous.
he reaches over to the nighstand before opening his drawer and taking out a small, black box. wait…
he opens it and you’re practically blinded at the sight of what’s inside—a 24k carat ring, adorned with pure clarity.
“oh my God, rin?!” you gasp, taking the box off his hands and ogling over the content in every angle possible, “what the hell?! how long have you had this?” you ask ecstatically.
“few months…” he admits, scratching the back of head.
“that was the most unromantic engagement in the history of mankind. you stole jake peralta’s proposal!” you exclaim, “and you didn’t even say the words… so lame,” you huff.
“well… you already said yes, so no take backs, okay?”
