Lucifer grinned, not out of true pleasure or anything, only because it fit as a response. “So, now that’s out of the way, you wouldn’t happen to have a first edition Paradise Lost in here anywhere, would you? Not strictly religious matter, I know, but mine’s wearing a bit thin.” Too bad, really. It was a signed copy and everything. Lucifer knew touching the ink would make it fade faster, but it was one of the few physical remnants he had of his old friend.

Aziraphale shook his head without really thinking about whether he had the book or not. The Devil was not just a customer he was trying to shoo away, so he chose to be truthful.

“I’ve not sold a book in months, actually. I intend to keep it that way.”
