This was a mess, a total disaster. It was supposed to be so easy, but since when were things ever easy for Korina? That was the negative attitude she was fostering at the moment, anyway.
Safe in mouth of the cave they had managed to reach, they could keep a lookout in case the savage animal that had attacked them decided to show up, perhaps with friends, while also being shielded. So yes, they were safe.
But Data was hurt, and Kor was panicking.
She had studied cybernetics at the academy, yes, and under Professor Data no less, but a few classes, no matter how well she did in them, could not prepare her for this. She was a doctor, not an engineer. She had very little to go on.
"I’m n-not sure professor- I mean, commander- I- it’s been a while-" As she shook, she was carefully removing the tattered cloth of Data’s pant leg, exposing the torn artificial flesh and exposed circuitry, looking it over carefully. Here at least, she had a few applicable skills. A keep eye, and knowledge of the nervous system. Luckily, Data’s creator, Dr. Soong, had wanted Data to be as lifelike as possible, and so his wiring matched that of a humans nerves. She could work with that.
But there were still many things that could go wrong, and the normally calm and collected doctor was, well, freaking out.
" Doctor, do not forget that I am indeed still here.
I may not be able to operate on myself, but with
your skillful hands and my knowledge about my
body. I am certain that you will succeed."
Though he wasn't completely in tune to how beings operated with
their emotions, he could read Korina's face like a book. She was
worried, and the stammer in her voice only confirmed it.
The damage, though it was severe, was fixable. With careful
instruction he could guide her. After all, he did remember how
studious she was when she was learning under him. Data didn't
have a doubt in his mind that the odds were there was a positive
outcome.
