Variety reports that she’s in final negotiations to play the title role in Ophelia, which shifts the focus from the Prince of Denmark to the noblewoman who loved him.

Ophelia is based on the YA novel of the same name by Lisa Klein, and positions the character as an outspoken woman fully involved with Hamlet, rather than a tragic figure who succumbs to madness. Naomi Watts is currently in negotiations to play Queen Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother, and Claire McCarthy is attached to direct. (X)
