Being a Sahm with Depression and Anxiety is such a challenging thing.
I Woke Up Late This Morning.
It's not a huge deal, cause I'm a homemaker. It's not like I'll lose my job. Plus I think I'm fighting something off, so I'm justified some extra sleep.
"If you wake up late, you will be late for everything else in the day, no matter how hard you try to catch up." - A Very Wise Woman I Once Knew
The first time I heard that, I was like, "No way. That can't be true. It HAS to be possible to catch up even if you wake up a little later." And the truth is, you sort of can. But not really. You'll be playing catch up all day, and even if you do something "on time" it won't be complete or to the best of your ability. You'll be one step behind yourself all day.
For instance, I made a special trip to the store (I usually do grocery pick up) to get a phone card for my husband, but somehow I forgot to bring the debit card in with me, or the change bag I was going to use. Then the pay app I use in case of dumb emergencies like this wasn't accepted for a phone card. Ugh!
Did that happen because I woke up late? 🤷🏻♀️ There's no definite causal link between those things. But I do know that I've been off balance and scatterbrained all day from playing catch-up with breakfast, chores, my workout, and my social life. And that may seem arbitrary or coincidental, but ever since I first heard that advice I've watched what happens when I wake up late, and my days are consistently thrown off (even when I'm not following a schedule!).
I'm not saying never sleep in again. Sometimes it's okay to have a slow day. I'm just saying observe it for yourself. We all get up late sometimes. See what happens and maybe it'll motivate you to get out of bed the next time you're tempted to hit the snooze button.
