There’s finally no barriers between us. No other people in the room or unwanted sounds and objects. She was finally up against me, her back pressed into my chest. The blanket from the bed is wrapped around us, and despite everything outside being damp and cold, it’s warm in the small room with the window. We’re warm.
It’s early enough that the sun is just starting to wake up and reach through the clouds, waking the rest of the world with it. There’s not enough people moving around below us yet, though, making it feel like we’re still the only ones fully here. There’s no one to see or hear anything beyond this room and its window.
It feels like I’m holding all the planets and stars in my arms. She leans her head near my neck and everything feels so slow and long, lasting forever. I could stay here forever with her, the universe, in my arms. I know soon she’ll have to leave and all those barriers will go back up, but right now it’s all just warm and soft and quiet.
Those barriers could show up any minute, with everything waking up now. Our small eternity could crack and break and be carried away with all the footprints.
Right now we’re still at the window with the blanket around us, her pressed into me, my arms pulling her closer.
Right now there’s no barriers and the universe is still wrapped up in my arms and pressed into my chest.
