Swipe to See More . I’m constantly trying to push this new procreate brush set I’m working on. To do so, I experiment with different techniques and styles. Sumi-E or Black Ink Painting has a calming beauty to it. I thought I’d see if I could create that look with this set. There is one particular brush that I consider the star of the set. It delivers a nice texture and an erratic blend and flow that lends itself well to Sumi painting. The video and the lake image were created with it. This kind of work is super relaxing too. I’m kind of hooked. . I filmed this late and last minute so it’s not the best. I thought I’d spice it up with a little ambient composition I put together on my phone. *Swipe to see the time-lapse* . I made a self-commitment to try and post something daily to practice and to fine tune my brushes. Last night I hit a pretty hard block. I had nothing, zilch, zippo… I decided I wasn’t going to post. That didn’t feel right. I had made a commitment, after all. So after burning my retinas staring into a white screen for what seemed too long, I started drawing a face with no idea what I’d end up with. . While sketching I saw a possible Clint Eastwood character, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, an emo-douchebag… but somehow avoided them all and landed on my version of a character from a Cartoon I watched as a kid, and hardly remember: Space Pirate Captain Harlock. I didn’t even realize I was going there until I added a patch because it felt like the right thing to do. . Maybe Leopards can change their spots. . I’d say an unexpected hero from the new #officebrushpack is the Sharpeez Broad Dry marker. It’s random flow and tones spark unexpected directions as I’m drawing. I was originally going to sketch a traditional leopard but once I started drawing the spots I couldn’t stop myself. Always with the puppy eyes. I had zero ideas so I sketched my dog. This guy loves to cuddle, make friends, chew, and take your knees out from under you when you least expect it. He also loves ice. It’s almost ridiculous how much he loves ice. When he hears the ice machine—dead asleep or not—he comes barreling into the kitchen like those cheetahs chasing their prey but not as graceful. Saturday morning space freaks. . Some quickies because they're fun and easier when you're running short on time. . I've always liked the look of sketches almost better than finished pieces or finished pieces that have an unfinished look. The latter is ridiculously hard to pull off. There's an amazing kinetic energy to this kind of work that really appeals to me. . Here's some artist's I follow who do this exceptionally well: @captain_tom, @john_valyrakis, and @hubert_hotch . I get asked, "How do I get better at drawing?" Quite a bit. The answer's not that glamorous. Discipline, practice, and perseverance. Make the time to do it, do the work often and don't quit. Pretty much the recipe to be good at most anything. There are some who are born with the gift, (not me) and the rest of us have to work hard for it. . Ignore that monster on your shoulder screaming, "You suck, give it up, turd-ball!" And do the work. Over and over again. This is how you discover if what you're after is a true passion or not. There's more to it but this captions already too long. . Today's drawing is a Skthcy/B. Cloonan inspired mashup. Its sole purpose was to practice and test out new ink and wash brushes I’m fine tuning for Procreate. I’m pretty psyched with how they're turning out. There's still a lot more work, but they're almost there. 🤞 . And remember, don't call it a dream. Call it a plan. . Did everyone but me know about Artist Trading Cards? I just discovered that Strathmore sells 2”x3.5 inch packs of papers to draw or paint on. I guess the purpose is to have something inexpensive you can giveaway sell, or trade. Anyone else create or work with these?

Think it’d be fun to trade some artwork. Hint. Hint.
