Beloveds
You know what, there’s something that PISSES me off in Tawny Man. When Nighteyes die, after Fitz goes to Kettricken and he grieves with her, he goes back to Beloved and Beloved says something along the line: “I’m glad she could give you what I couldn’t. I loved Nighteyes, but I only knew him through you, as an extension of you” (or something like that)
And it PISSES ME OFF. Like, Beloved spent days and days with Nighteyes in Jhaampe, feeding him, both of them freaking out over Fitz’s condition. When Nighteyes all but broke through his window to snarl at everyone while Chade, Kettricken and Starling were upsetting Fitz, Beloved was the only one who wasn’t afraid, and he pushed them all out and remained alone with Fitz and Nighteyes.
During their quest to find Verity, he slept nearly every night between Nighteyes and Fitz. He hunted with them, played with them, fought alongside them.
When he laid his fingers on Fitz’s wrist to unlock Kettle’s Skill, he downright bonded with Nighteyes as Fitz had bonded with him, all three of their souls merging and becoming one. He saw him, knew him like only Fitz did.
Later, in Tawny Man, when he came back to Fitz and spent weeks in his cabine, he could almost hear Nighteyes, could feel him. His bond with him was as strong as his bond with Fitz, for someone both unskilled and unWitted.
When Fitz lost himself in Nighteyes’s body to save him, Beloved knew both of them enough that he could find Fitz there and bring him back.
When Fitz fled through the Skillpillar with Dutiful, Beloved remained behind with Nighteyes, and fought and risked his own life to protect him.
And yet, AND YET, Hobb wants us to believe that he didn’t know him, that he was just a random wolf that Beloved saw as a part of Fitz??? It PISSES ME OFF
Ive said this before and I’ll probably say it a million more times, its absolutely Insane that the most honest Fitz ever got to be about what Beloved means to him was in FF when Beloved was dead. This was the most open we have ever seen him, when it was just him and Beloveds body, no Nighteyes sharing his mind, nobody around him (yknow, apart from Ilistore for a brief period of time but still) and we get to know soso much about their relationship from what Fitz admits to himself when he thinks nobody else is listening.
My dream was dead in my arms obviously but also, might I argue more importantly, calling Beloved by his name, Knowing what it means. Bestowing them with his name, essentially claiming they’re bound, they’re each others’, they belong together as much as two people can belong together (even more than that). Him acknowledging this part of himself and resigning himself to it, only to later go back into his shell as soon as Beloved comes back to life :((( Beloved never knowing Fitz did this bc he never told him…. God just shoot me instead actually
(Tawny Man spoilers)
I do think Fool’s reaction to the affinity charm in TM is the funniest thing ever
Fitz is so casually like ‘yeah it’s supposed to make people like me more but idk if it really works’ and Fool is borderline breaking out in a sweat at the sight of it
Like imagine loving someone ‘with no limits’ and then they show up with the Affection Booster 3000 on their neck 😭 that’s crazy
Blue Morning (commission for my lovely patron bimblyedits!)
civil bresinga talks a lot of shit for someone who is visibly also in a weird situationship with a farseer who will never like him back. i’m kind of obsessed with him though he’s funny as hell
I'm in tears, I miss Nighteyes so much 😭😭
thank u robin hobb for making fitzchivalry farseer canonically bad at sex and then making his dearest friend call him out on it during their big fight. and not having him defend himself at all because it is true. really excellent stuff
oh sorry was it gay when i hunted through a half collapsed frozen city carved into the depths of an iceberg to find and burn your body because i knew how you hated the cold? was it gay when i carried you through that icy labyrinth half mad with grief and fatigue speaking aloud to your unhearing ears asking the gods to let you laugh at me one more time? or when i lovingly prepared you for your funeral pyre and bid you farewell with my own name because you are as dear to me as my own life? how about when i defied the gods and through the force of my will for you to live, reordered the path of reality itself, giving myself over to your death in the hope of bringing your body back to life from within? was it gay when my soul was within your body, and yours in mine, and i finally understood what you said to me when you told me you loved me?

I have just finished Tawny man trilogy this morning and I am awfully disappointed in Fitz and how he let Fool let him go away to try and have a peaceful life without him-- Fitz JUST saved him and was ready to give away the possible future he dreamt of all his life - to try and marry Molly and raise her kids and fulfill the promise to Burrich!!! he offered to leave all of that behind to be with Fool. He calls Beloved his "dream" dude just kill me
“I will give you all your dreams, if only you come back!”
My dream was dead in my arms. I continued to walk.
I cannot believe Fitz just agreed with Fool not letting him to go with him!!!! Reminded me of what Lacey said in Royal Assassin:
“I was thinking that you are very like your father,” Lacey observed tartly. “Except not quite as stubborn. He did not give up as easily as you have.” She shut the door firmly behind me.
i am simultaneously the biggest fan and hater of Fitz. What are we doing man.
If there's one hill I will die on it's this one: Fitz made the right decision for Nettle. Her childhood away from politics, intrigue and danger was the best thing that could have happened to her. She grew up a normal child, with no concerns beyond her childhood. She had siblings and loving parents. Should she have been told about her parentage before everything came crumbling down? Likely. But I do not think Fitz was wrong in wishing for his child a safe and normal childhood like he never had. I believe Chade, Kettricken, Dutiful and even Nettle herself underestimate the value of her "common" upbringing. At the same time, Fitz has been burned too badly to realise Nettle might have benefitted from an earlier education in court manners and the Skill. And still. He provided his child with the best start in life that he could imagine, with all the comforts he was denied. Nettle can be angry at him (and Molly and Burrich) all she wants for hiding her true parentage and for how he acted trying to continue that deception. But nobody else has the right to rebuke him for it. Especially not Chade or Kettricken, who have witnessed how he has been treated at the Farseer court, and who must understand that he might want to protect his child from likewise harm.
Fitz is granted 15 years of peace at the end of the Farseer Trilogy, 15 years he spends with Nighteyes. They travel, they hunt, they live to their lives's content. Loosing Nighteyes after all these years rips his life apart. But at the end of the Tawny Man Trilogy, we learn that Fitz lived partially forged. What cruelty is this, to learn that Nighteyes spend the majority of his life with a version of Fitz that did not have the full capacity for happiness? Who could not appreciate their simple life? Nighteyes knew that Fitz giving away his memories and emotions would have consequences. It is why he intervened. And yet. And yet, he was the crutch Fitz leaned on for 15 years. Without him, would Fitz have experienced any satisfaction at all? Any joy? What must it have been like for Nighteyes to see his partner so reduced with no way to remedy Fitz? What must it have been like, to know that he was dying and that he had leave Fitz alone to this fate?
What must it feel like for Fitz, recovered from the Forging by the Fool's kiss, to realise that he did not do right by Nighteyes? With no way to ever redeem himself???
The Fool wanting Fitz's heart and when he finally has it he doesn't even realise it and proceeds to crush said heart by leaving Fitz while thinking that he is doing Fitz a favor by letting him go 💔 whatever man.

you guys wanna know what little detail makes me wanna cry whenever i think about it? fitz physically being unable to put beloved's body down to confront the pale woman, because it would feel like he's abandoning him again. fitz gathering his prophet, his beloved, his dream closer to him and refusing to leave him again, not for any glory or power. fitz defying the future the pale woman saw just by refusing to let go of beloved
