An Ineffable Finale

Might be a hot take, I think Good Omens was wrapped up beautifully. Yes, I also think we deserved to see more of Crowley and Aziraphale and it's a shame how it ended so soon but I'm just glad they were given an ending.

Major spoilers about good omens 3 below! Read under your discretion. I just like to ramble a lot.

I mainly just wanna ramble about the way some fans reacted to the apparent lack of a "proper kiss scene" between our main protagonists. I've seen some fans go apeshit on tiktok over this. Fine I get it, people are suckers for a good romantic kiss that "establishes" the ship, me too. But for Aziraphale and Crowley, I think the kiss thing with the fingers was in character and I adore the subtlety of their connection. They're angels, people. Angels. Of course they wouldn't kiss the way we humans expect them to kiss! They're immortal beings with decades of baggage, they're not just going to make out sloppy with tongue before getting vacuumed to oblivion!

Aside from that, I think it's a good way to show that love doesn't have to be presented the way we expect it to be. And mmmmaybe I'm just projecting because I consider myself demisexual and demiromantic, but it's heavily implied that Aziraphale and Crowley are asexual too. So it's refreshing to see ace-coded characters on screen expressing their care and affection in a way that only they would understand, and it's always nice to have characters represent an underrepresented part of the queer community.

Whenever people think of asexual folks in relationships, there's often this default expectation to portray the relationship traditionally. But for many aspec individuals, love can be so much deeper and complex and I like that we get to see a portrayal of that in media with Aziraphale and Crowley.

Though, I respect how others feel about the ending. You're allowed to not be in favor of the way things ended. This is unfortunately how the show producers wanted it to be and regardless, I think the journey with Aziraphale and Crowley was truly... Ineffable.

I'm all in for making characters with a messed up backstory that explain why they are the way that they are.

But, I also like seeing characters who have lived a relatively normal life but will still go through the most gut wrenching story arc possible for their character development.

“Where do you see yourself in five years” is kind of an odd question for a job interview now that I think about it. Like idk. Having a job? You could give one to me right now.

I know that the reason that young entrepreneurs and young artists are often celebrated is to show kids and young adults that they’re not too young to start following their dreams but I think it often has the unintended side effect of making you go “Man, I haven’t even started an international business yet. I’m a failure.” when you’re like twelve.

One of my favorite things is modern adaptations that leave people with the same careers they had in the original material, because unless you’re a cop or a doctor that practically never happens.

Irene Adler’s an opera singer. We still have those! They don’t have the same subtext exactly, but nothing is going to because we aren’t the Victorians. She could continue to be an opera singer. I have never seen this happen.

Jonathan Harker can still be in real estate. That’s a job people have. A modern story that still involves Dracula contacting his firm to help him purchase property sounds amazing actually.

I was about to joke about Quincey Morris still being a cowboy, but then it occurred to me that he’s not actually a cowboy in the source material, is he? He’s the wealthy heir of a Texas ranch-owning family who just acts like an Old West cowboy. If anything, that’s even more plausible today than it was in 1897.
