about:
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it’s easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It’s also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
There are spoilers ahead for Silent Hill 2. This is a multimuse blog for canon characters from the Silent Hill video games. For general interactions, I'll be blending lore from the second game and the film along with my own added interpretations. Unless writing with muses that incorporate the cult aspects, I will largely be ignoring that theme, since it's not relevant to James's story. All details vary based on verse, and I'm happy to write my muses into crossovers or AUs.
And now, some warnings! This world is known for its graphic and psychological horror, and there will be elements of that explored here, including but not limited to themes of suicide, murder, body horror, terminal illness, spouse death, trauma, guilt, manipulation, punishment, and toxic relationships. If you’re not comfortable with those, that’s perfectly fine, but this isn’t the blog for you. I will check with you before anything major so we can better plot things out.
lore:
If you're interacting, I'm going to assume your muse has wandered into Silent Hill for their own reasons. The town has a way of calling people to it who have something dark in their past that still haunts them, and it gives their trauma corporeal form so that they can either face it or be defeated by it. Everyone who comes to it leaves elements behind, so James's personal monsters (Pyramid Head, the Dark Nurses, Maria, etc.) all still exist here. How your muse's trauma manifests is up to you!
The town has three layers:
The Real World: The town of Silent Hill exists in the normal world, although it has been abandoned for many years after the coal mines beneath it caught fire and never stopped burning, making it virtually uninhabitable. There are no people here, only empty storefronts, broken roads, and a constant layer of smoke. There are no monsters either; however, it is possible to occasionally sense things from the other side.
The Fog World: When night falls, a layer of fog coats the town, thick enough to limit visibility to a few feet in any direction. This world is spooky and uncanny, and it may contain a few straggling monsters. However, come daylight, the fog doesn't lift, and characters are trapped until the town decides to let them go. It's a place of purgatory, a waiting place, where time doesn't really exist and characters are neither truly alive nor dead.
The Otherworld: When the sirens sound, it signals the Otherworld taking over, representing the darkest parts of characters' minds. Rust and gore cover everything, and monsters lurk behind closed doors. Unlike in the Fog World, death is very possible here, and not all monsters can be killed with weapons.
