INNIT is digitizing one of the final frontiers of things to be digitized
Ray McCauley, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Chair at Singularity University on Innit, “INNIT is digitizing one of the final frontiers of things to be digitized. Looking at food and how we relate to our food. In the kitchen, health-wise, what it means to eat fresh food, what it means to eat the right kinds of food. How to cook it right. In a lot of ways we’re NOT cooking much differently than our early ancestors. We have a modernized kitchen but it is still electric fire. Here is a chance to get an idea of what’s coming in and out of your kitchen with precise digital control and pick the very best food at the very right time”
"This Tech Startup Promises Salvation for Lousy Cooks"
"This Tech Startup Promises Salvation for Lousy Cooks," written by Jeffrey Graham at Inc.com covers Innit's move into the era of connected food.
"Innit operates in a hot sector that's trying to digitize the cooking process," Graham noted. "Products built with Innit's technology will use sensors that measure things like the weight, temperature, and moisture levels of the food in your kitchen without having to touch it. The data is then used to calculate the optimal time and heat levels for cooking. ... The company is also working on technology for appliances, like a smart refrigerator that can detect what's inside and suggest recipes, or tell you the shelf life of certain items."

Wisdom of Food
“The idea is that there is implicit wisdom in food. Until now you have been unable to listen to the food and directly hear the wisdom of the food. Of course, it is actually human wisdom that has been gathered around the food but now we’ll be able to hear it directly from the food ourselves using digital technologies.”
- Mike Liebhold, Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for the Future, Palo Alto.

Ray McCauley on the connected food ecosystem
“There are many of people that make new kitchen gadgets and that’s fantastic, but the thing that’s lacking is someone who has a really deep understanding of all the information about food ... INNIT is the way to engage with all of this data about food and reach out to the consumer and show them how to simplify their lives and get the most out of the food in their kitchen and the appliances in their kitchen.”

Mike Liebhold from Innit's Scientific Advisory Committee
Mike Liebhold, Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for the Future, Palo Alto and member of Innit's scientific advisory committee on Innit's vision for the future:
“The clarity of vision is really incredible. These guys really do understand the potential of food information and the technical ways to make it happen. It’s both the method and the potential human impact that I find very, very exciting. This is part of a large suite of developments in the world. We are beginning to see pervasive information about everything. So INNIT is very early in the game and food is such a central part of human existence putting data around food becomes critically important for the quality of human life. Data about your furniture, data about a toy … or data about a tree is all going to be useful but it is not going to affect the quality of life as intimately as information about food.”

Now it's time for kitchens, even food, to get smarter
Jon Silver, staff reporter at the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC) covered Innit's big launch at the Smart Kitchen Summit. Jon notes that "Innit wants to unlock and listen to the information within food through science, technology and culinary expertise.” Jon further observed that, "It's been reported that a typical U.S. family wastes about $1,500 of food annually, but much of that food could have been eaten if consumers had better information. A new Silicon Valley company called Innit wants to tackle that problem with a new technology platform it's developing. The kitchen of the future could have a number of interconnected devices that work together on everything from storage to preparation. A third-party technology platform would help ensure all those devices worked together, even if they are produced by different manufacturers." To read more: https://www.djc.com/news/ht/12083402.html
