“What does that mean?”
taabernae.
“North America?”
So she was pretty smart, huh? That was nice to know. Stepping behind the counter, he turned to face her once again. “What did you study?” As she spoke, he reached over to grab his notepad off the counter, pen at the ready, “What do you like on your ramen? Anything specific?”
“It’s a lot different over there, really,” Chizuru replied, a light smile now coming over her face. She would certainly miss it. “I studied law mostly. It’s why I was there for so long.” But, he didn’t need to know the whole story - she didn’t want to bore him or anything.
She perked up slightly at the question, glancing down towards the menu he’d handed her, “What do you recommend?”
trenchant-enforcement.
Based on what he could tell, it seemed as though Chizuru was having a tough time deciding whether or not to tell him. It was a little disconcerting sometimes to know just how much he could see from a person’s expression alone after years of training, though it did help that he knew her personally. She hadn’t changed much from back then.
“–It must be important, if it’s bothering you this much.” It wasn’t so much that he wanted to know what was going on for the sake of knowing. She was still his friend, despite everything, and he genuinely wanted to help her. If talking could ease her tensions even by just a fraction, he was more than willing to listen.
“And if it involves your mother.”
“...”
He was right when he pointed it that it bothered her. In fact, it was on her mind more than she’d prefer. Chizuru glanced off towards the side, away from Takumi. Before she could even think of stopping herself, her hand reached up and began to idly fiddle with a piece of her hair. There was still a frown on her face when she spoke again.
“I guess...it probably is important.” It was her future, after all. “It’s just...” Again, a moment of hesitation, “My mom found this guy that she wants me to marry. It’s already arranged and everything. I’ve been in America for so long, I didn’t realize how weird it felt until now. Isn’t it weird?” Chizuru didn’t bother waiting for him to reply, instead continuing, “And I don’t want to disappoint her, but...”
But she’d rather look for someone herself. Not that her mother would listen to that. Heaving an exasperated sigh, the redhead murmured, “It’s not a big deal, I guess. A lot of people go through with arranged marriages. I just hope the guy isn’t strange or anything...”

B) its my birthday soon
“Oh.”
“Really?”
:o likes her skirt
“Oh! Thank you!” Though, Chizuru really couldn’t tell her where she got. After all, she didn’t really remember the name of the store and she hadn’t gotten it in Japan either.
“Ack!”
taabernae:
“Yeah, no problem,” In response, he turned in the direction of his shop. It would only take a couple minutes to get there, since he’d only walked out for a smoke break before running into her. “So,” he started, as he opened the door for her, “you from around here?”
Chizuru glanced over towards him as she took a seat at one of the stools, blinking a bit at his question. “I guess you could say that.”
“I went to high school around here, but I’ve been studying abroad in North America for the last few years. I only came back about a month ago. Not a lot has changed, though.”
taabernae:
“Huh? Oh. Nah, it doesn’t bother me. If you’re hungry, you should come down and get something to eat at my shop. It’s cold out here anyway.”
“Really?”
Immediately, her features had lit up. “Thanks! I didn’t think you were still open.”
taabernae:
“Yeah, I am.”
“You alright? You’ve been over here mumbling about food for the last five minutes.”
Eh. Oh. He heard that.
“Sorry about that. Was I bothering you?”
taabernae:
Comes to the rescue.
“Oh!”
“Hey, you’re the guy who owns the ramen shop down the street, right?”
Wonders what she should eat today.

“In high school already?” The last few times he’d seen Chizuru’s sister, she had been a lot younger. He hadn’t seen her recently, at least he didn’t think so, despite having been to the high school on a number of occasions. “It’d be nice to see her again.”
Takumi then remained quiet for a couple of seconds, noticing the subtle shift in her expression as she brought up her mother. He didn’t really want to intrude on anything that might be too personal to speak with him now, but he was curious as to what might have made her react this way.
“Did something happen with your mom?”
“Yeah, she’s in high school now. She’s pretty popular, too.” Just thinking of the boys who walked her younger sister home and offered to carry her stuff was enough to make Chizuru make a face, though it was gone a second later. “She doesn’t seem to notice all the attention though, so I don’t worry too much over it.”
There was hesitation on her face, and it was fairly easy to read. She kept quiet for a few seconds, glancing over towards Takumi. Should she tell him? She wasn’t really sure--Takumi wasn’t the type to really get into a lot of gossip, she was sure. He was pretty much the same from before. Still frowning to herself, she spoke up once more, “It’s just...”
“No. It’s not that important.”
