Update: Diet/Exercise #FAIL
Fitbit aka my exercise guilt gadget is purchased!
Health Before Wealth: Exercise and Diet
Exercise and diet are actually the two aspects where I lack the least amount of willpower. I have always been blessed with a decent metabolism and therefore I've never had the motivation to stick to either.
I spent some time thinking about what my goals would be on the exercise end and I decided my goal would be instilling the habit. By that I mean running at least five days a week and getting in the gym at a minimum of four.
To assist me in the pressure to be more active I have purchased a fitbit. Please see the vlog post below for more detail. My gym membership is still in tact but likely collecting dust and the weather gives me no excuse not to do my running. I will be posting updates from my fitbit data regularly over the next 6 months and sharing not just my results but the experiences along the way.
Diet and I are not friends. Between the commuting I do for my work often and the evil calorie capitol that is New Orleans, this is an uphill battle. With that said, a few months ago I did Paleo for a while and I found that very manageable 90% of the time. I'm going to try that again so please feel free to share your eating paleo suggestions below. (Do not post complex recipes for turning totally non-paleo things into paleo please.) This is a know thyself exercise and I know I'll never try those.
Next weekend I will post the next chapter and my first set of updates. Wish me luck!
In the Beginning...
This is an introduction/first chapter of sorts to my new blog. "In Pursuit of 30" is a six month long self-improvement project. No this is not an "I am turning 30" crisis reaction. I have no fear of turning 30. Instead, I think this is a good benchmark for setting some healthy goals for myself.
The only downside to goal setting is that it is the easy part. Acting them out is always where I utterly mutilate Lenten and New Years vows. With that in mind I figured public shaming by my peers and financial investment to add to the guilt was the way to go. That is where you all come in.
I am inviting you all to take this journey with me as I look to spend the next six months working on positive and healthy strides forward in my life. I find that many blogs I'm familiar with often project judgemental views of all those things going on in their lives with some level of superiority. That will not be the case here. The only person I'll be judging is me.
There will be vlog and pic posting and maybe even some other social media components as this goes forward. I look forward to sharing the next six months with those of you who wish to follow. With that said...here we go!
