THEME SONG CHALLENGE
Tagged by: STOLEN! Tagging: @ghoulhelpertakamikida and whoever else still looks at this blog XD
Satoki’s theme has been “Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums” by A Perfect Circle since I made the OC years ago. It’s a maddening song and helps me get in the mindset of a guy that can’t let go of his grief. How an unkept mental state is so easily manipulated by what he thinks is his brother haunting him. It’s just creepy, and I love it.
🎵🎵Let’s switch it up a little. Stick your music on shuffle and send my character a lyric from the first song that pops up.🎵🎵

Before heading off to complete his Alpha’s orders, Charlie was stopped by the new Foxtrot. A phone was thrust into his hand. He was about to quibble that he had his own phone, but she quickly spoke and informed him of what the phone was for. He was glad he had his full-faced mask on as he blushed brightly. Especially when she reached underneath and stroked his cheek. “Uh... alright...” Was all he could mumble as he pocketed the device. Everyone was already heading out, so he did the same - releasing his purple-hinted Bikaku as he did so.
Satoki didn’t really pay much attention to the exchange, he was already hurrying off to the forest. He didn’t care if the rest of the Pack that wasn’t at the meeting had caught on to Takami’s Human scent, he and they had much more important things at hand. Though he was sure they’d all want an explanation if they survived this encounter. They weren’t particularly Human-hating, but it was still a curious situation.
He felt the tug, and heard the words, but it took him a moment to wrestle his rushing mind to pay attention to them. He stopped and took a deep breath through his nose - the chilled air filling his lungs - and released the breath past his lips. “Alright, alright....” He muttered, attempting to calm down. But the skin on his back was tingling... itchy. His kagune was so eager to burst from his back. It was like stopping a monster taking over his body and mind so he could concentrate. He permitted himself to lose it only when he found the murderer - and not a moment before.
Just as he took another breath, something caused his nostrils to flare. Another strong scent of blood - a mix of Human and Ghoul. He turned in the direction and headed over, slipping past trees and bushes, not caring as the twigs cracked underneath his boots. About ten minutes of walking led them to a man-made opening. Tree’s were severely damaged, most of them were fallen. Crack trunks sprinkled around, shielding more dead bodies... CCG. Both artiliary and Doves. Weapons were thrown around - clearly a huge defeat. Satoki kneeled next to the closest body and again felt it’s cheek. It was much colder than the previous one and wasn’t harmed other than it’s killing wound. There were no bites or attempts to devour the flesh. This killer was only interested in eating Ghouls...
“Looks like the bastard was cornered by CCG here, got rid of them all and then headed to the radio tower...” He scowled. “We’re going in the wrong direction-” He was interupted by a loud buzzing from Takami’s pocket. Her phone ringing. He was about to protest but as she answered he heard the young Charlie’s voice through the receiver.
“Foxtrot... Tell Alpha to come to me.” He was whispering. “I followed my nose, I have footprints. Looks like whoever made them is limping. There’s lots of blood. Ghoul blood.” He was silent for a moment, listening around him. “I’m about a mile south of the tower, I’ve already messaged the others.” He quickly added before hanging up.
Charlie had always had the strongest senses out of the Pack. Satoki had pride in his sense of smell, but he knew it was inferior to the teenagers. Charlie wasn’t much of a fighter, but his investigative skills were what kept him in such high ranking in the group. Again that talent bore fruit. Satoki didn’t need Takami to repeat the message, he began to sprint back to the tower and turn south. If Charlie was on the trail, he was in danger. They all were - aside Takami perhaps since the Ghoul wasn’t interested in Humans it seemed.
He didn’t pay much attention to her not wanting his old mask. He didn’t have time for her to find something else, and everyone else would have wolf-looking masks in their own designs. The more wolf masks there, the more intimidating they would look as a unit. For both the killer and the CCG.
“Fine,” He snapped quickly, clearly more concerned about rushing then caring about how they got there. He ran into the garage, checking the exact location of the radio tower in the Ward. A quick Internet search revealed that the station was abandoned, which made more sense why the killer would hunt there. It was reletively out of the way due to all the equipment it once used.
He jumped onto the back of the motorbike, Takami quickly took her place at the front and they headed off. Satoki clutched the handle at the back of the seat with one hand tightly while the other was still going through his phone, occasionally yelling out commands over the sound of the wind and engine so she could hear where to go next.
By the time they winded their way through the clear roads - it was too late at night to see much traffic so far out of the city - and reached the desolate building, most of the CCG Doves were taken care of. It became more obvious by the lack of noise, fights and with the strong smell of blood in the air. Satoki jumped off the moving bike, landing smoothly close to a Dove’s still-warm corpse as he saw the other members of the Pack gathering on the roof. He missed out on some of the action, but he needed to concentrate on the main event...
He joins the other on the roof, trusting Takami to follow. No-ones face was visible, all hidden under masks resembling wolves, but each had unique designs and colours. They had circled a Ghoul’s body. The ribcage was exposed, torn open to reveal missing organs. Blood was still leaking from the gaping wound, released kagune muscles occasionally twitching as it fell closer to rigor mortis.
“This is definitely him...” Satoki muttered, it was certainly the killers usual mess. It was frustrating... the overwhelming smell of Ghoul blood took over any chances of picking up on any other Ghoul scents - one that he could have used to track the killer down. The blond placed the back of his hand against the corpse’s cheek. “She’s still warm.” He stood up and looked around for anything that could show what direction the murderer went. “They’re not far.” His voice seemed calm, but anyone who paid extra attention would notice the shaking in his fists - but the darkness helped to hide this.
“Shall we split up?” One of the people behind the masks spoke, the voice giving it away that it was a male, perhaps 30s or early 40s judging by the stature, and the voice completely different to Bravo and Charlie, revealing that this is one of the other Pack members that wasn’t at the cafe the other day. “I’m with Echo,” the shortest person spoke, revealing it to be Charlie. “More ground to cover.”
The second shortest person lifted up a phone, held by a rather feminine hand, the words ‘I’ll go to the East’ typed up on the screen. Either they were unable to use their voice, or preferred not to. But Satoki didn’t seem taken aback by this, something that was clearly known among them all. He nodded at her. “Alright, Delta, go. Echo-” He addressed the first speaker. “Go West from here. Bravo, go north. Charlie, south. I’ll head into the thick of the woods with Foxtrot.”
He took a quick glance at the two that Takami hadn’t met before hand. “I don’t have time to introduce you, if you find anyone, don’t fucking hesitate!” He addressed the Pack over all. “I don’t care about subtlty, I’m sure if there’s enough noise we’ll all hear it. Any CCG, kill them too! They’re not getting in the way this time.” He snarled. The group nodded and sprinted off, most of their kagunes released, showing they were ready and eager to complete this long-winded mission...
“Keep up,” Satoki quickly addressed Takami as he jumped off the building, running South-West into the darkest part of the trees surrounding the radio station, no paths led through it and the moon struggled to penitrate the thick trees.
He let her hand go as it came away from his cheek, he nodded at her suggestion - rather glad to move away from these confusing feelings for a couple of hours. “Sure thing.” He aided in setting up the game, grabbing the two pro-controllers while she set up the TV and inserted the game. He spent the evening playing, occasionally giving Takami tips from the sideline if they went online as a pair - no longer mocking her every mistake.
It was only a few nights later when Satoki got a call from one of his Pack members. He didn’t seem too concerned or uptight when he answered it - expecting it to be mild news... But it was far more. His eyes grew larger, but his iris’ shrunk as he listened. His spare hand balled into a fist so tight, the knuckles almost glowed white. He didn’t need to ask questions, the caller had addressed them instantly - knowing not to draw this out for their Alpha.
“I’ll be ten minutes,” He finally spoke. “Clear the area if CCG show up...” He commanded before hanging up. He felt himself shake, a mixture of exhiliration and bottled rage. “He finally came back...” He muttered under his breath before suddenly jumping to action - like a coiled spring. “Takami!” He yelled out, racing to his room as he pulled out his hunting clothes and mask from the bottom drawer. They were rugged from use, but that only meant his kakuja could form without the strain of clothes to burst through first.
He looked at the bottom of the drawer as he spotted another mask. One of his first he designed alongside Terus... He picked it up and tossed it to Takami, who had of course followed him. A silent instruction to join him.
“We need to get to town now before we lose him again! The roof of the radio station nearest to here, Bravo picked it up on the CCG frequency! They’re getting rid of any Doves that show up but we need to find a trail now before he moves on!”
He rolled his eyes slightly, but kept his smile intact. Most women would be defensive, or appear to be rejecting him to save face, or on the other side of things - would talk dirty back. But Takami was just brutely honest. It was strangely adorable. Knowing how easy it was to tie her around his little finger...among other things.
He suddenly leaned in close, a movement almost too swift to catch. He could smell it from his position previously, but now, with his nose only millimetres from her neck, it was even more potent. The pheromones of sexual attraction. He could just about hear her quickening heart beat, and felt the waves of heat rolling off of her skin onto his. He wanted to chuckle, it was so amusing. How simple words could get her so weak in his palms.
“Mmm, lavander...” He cooed slightly as he shifted her hair away from the side of her neck he was close to, tucking it behind her ear to leave it all exposed. He spoke of her shampoo scent, which billowed down to her skin so she smelled like a fragrent field. He lifted his head up, nose leaving her neck and lips so close to brushing against her ear as he whispered. “You’re hands look a bit unsteady there. Need help?”
He continued to hear her out, even as his gaze slowly drifted away from hers. He just simply found it easier to concentrate on words and arranging them alongside his own thoughts if he wasn’t distracted by visuals. She spoke of understanding, but he could only agree with it. She lost more than just one person, she lost many. In a way, it made it a worse situation than Satoki’s.
Satoki couldn’t remember his parents. He only knew of the underground home to many orphan or abandoned Ghoul children. They were looked after as best as the minders could manage, but it wasn’t always ideal conditions. But he never cursed his childhood, nor had any interest in finding the parents that left him and his twin behind. He couldn’t lose something he felt he never had in the beginning. Takami, however, did lose just that.
Perhaps she created a calmness within in, but only a couple of years ago he would have gotten extremely defensive thinking she could possibly understand his situation. But now, he said nothing, silently accepting it. It was such a stark contrast to when they first met. A rogue Ghoul and a hapless human. She was almost obsessive over him, he used that against her so many times. Now they were in some kind of strange relationship. It wasn’t an extremely loving one from him, he still didn’t quite understand exactly how he felt about it. Nor was it particularly physical, even if his body did cave on occassion out of lust. But it was something strong all the same... Would it be something that could still stand once the spine was removed? He and Takami worked together to find Teru’s murderer, but he worried there would be nothing once that was gone. Even if it was just from him...
He leaned into her touch slightly, a silent accepting and appreciation of the contact. He hadn’t even thought about the third option; that he would die in the process of taking down the killer. He had worked on his kakuja for several years, but would it be enough to overpower another gruesome and savage kakuja. Least if that was the case, the decision would be made for him.
He placed his hand over hers, still glancing away - vaguely in the TV’s direction. “Thanks...” He muttered softly. He felt his heartbeat quicken slightly as a thought drifted through, his skin grew cold for just a second. As if this realization had been building up for so long and finally had it’s voice heard. Nerves... That’s all he could feel - nervous. It washed over him like a sudden and confusing waves, but the more he thought on it, the more he felt it came from a place of truth.
“I love you, Takami...” He mumbled, barely more than a whisper. Halfheartedly hoping she hadn’t heard him, either way, it was finally out in the open.
He remained steadfast in his physique as she answered him, still facing the TV and looking as if he was watching intently. Though really his eyes were glazed over, lost in his own ocean of thoughts. When he first lost his brother, he had nothing. The only voice he had to guide him was Teru’s, leading him down a vicious, vengeful path. But in leading him down there, he heard other voices... Different opinions, other ideas.
Suddenly, one voice became harder to hear in a crowd of others. He felt so torn. He hated to admit, but he finally began to feel comfortable being around several others that weren’t Teru... but that made him feel so guilty. Shouldn’t be only be focused on his brother? Was it morally wrong to consider other people as important as his own family?
He didn’t know what to do anymore. The path that was once just straight had so many twists and turns now - with Takami at the stem of the crossroads. He had a solid plan in mind for so many years, but now he was debating whether it was the right thing to do... He couldn’t help but feel the world was changing - did he really want to miss out on what could happen next?
Could he live with himself if he had both vengence...and happiness?
He sighed slightly, looking over. Possibly for the first time since meeting Takami he let his face show how he felt. His eyes were sad...features depressed.
“I want to stay...” He muttered. “But I don’t know if Teru will let me...” He hoped she understood what he meant. “Will he always haunt me if I don’t join him? Can I really move on without him? He kept me alive for years...do I have any right living without him and helping others?” He voiced all the dark questions that plagued him for some time. Hoping, with a lot of doubt, there would be a simple answer...
