damn, españa & druck have me questioning everything.  EVERYTHING.  it’s so unsettling and fun when we know~ what’s going to happen but also know nothing.

joana is so visibly agitated and uncomfortable it’s clear there is more than just wanting to hide that she’s still with her bf going on.  theory, if not canon MI storyline: her bf is protecting her - whether it is taking her in when she was thrown out, or from a past abusive relationship, or...what i am feeling from her behavior today...maybe addiction?  one of those theories may also explain why joana was so startled and ran (with cris) from the bar.

unpopular schmico opinion:

i never expected nico to be around more than one season, even from the beginning.  

he is there as a fellow which usually has shorter durations vs the other characters as interns or residents or more that tie them to the hospital for much longer.  other than his relationship with levi, there are no roots tying him to the hospital (or the show).

the writers have only treated him as an accessory piece.  all of his conflicts or storylines are tied exclusively to levi.  if you remove levi and their scenes/development from the equation, they have built very little substance for nico as an independent, standalone character.

for me, he has never felt like more than a transient character temporarily aiding levi’s development. example: even though this last ep gave nico the most focus he’s ever had he was also orbited by levi the whole time and the big fallout from losing his patient was primarily and directly used to attack and shake up the dynamics of their relationship (and less focus on nico’s character and character development).

i’ll miss him if he does exit this season, but i’ve always the felt the need to not get too attached because i felt he wasn’t going to be written in for the long haul and i already have enough anxiety about protecting all the current interns levi, helm, and most especially dahlia and casey lol.

Following the fallout of The Magicians and its disappointing season finale - sealing another queerbaiting "bury all your gays" storyline from tone deaf writers instead of exploring lgbtq+ topics...and especially the potential of a great mental illness platform - I realize how much I appreciate Skam even more than I already did.

Original OG Skam Isak and Even story was a focused first person perspective of Isak and coming out in high school and social media heavy setting AND THEN we got amazing bipolar rep with Even. We got a few hints of/early signs of mood changes and escalating behavior, then his breakdown, scary "what if" moment when he sent what was very likley a suicide letter/goodbye text, and then first steps in recovery, that they can take things day by day, hour by hour, or minute by minute when it gets too hard...and that's an amazing universal message for everyone.

And now in Druck, German version Skam, we're getting an added MI storyline/experience with our lead Matteo, german Isak, dealing with depression, panic attacks, sensory overload, smoking more weed than breathing because its easier than without it, self isolating, and pushing his friends away. And then, in what makes me tear up just thinking about, his main romantic lead is played by a transgender actor. We have no idea where that storyline will go...but damn. I cant think of any teen transgender storylines, especially romantic, with this much focus on their character.

Yeah of course! His name is Nino North and he’s a model at a ton of agencies, he’s also friends with Noah, Reiky and Florian which means he’s probably the most likely of the three to be a part of the cast if he wants to act. I’m kind of sad because he’s cutting his hair soon so say goodbye to the poof of curls, but here are some pics of his beauty.

Happy Matteo cannot cease being a little shit for more than 3 seconds.

ALERT!  David’s hand is in Matteo’s hair.

Sound producing for this show is insane.  Ep 4 had amazing moments with distracting/overwhelming sounds during the exam, the music blurring sound around Matteo while studying with Imane until she snapped her fingers and it echoed (!!! that was so cool), and the sound of water bubbling after they held their breaths and Untold started to play and David kissed him for the first time.  So amazing.  In the morning after scene, where it’s mostly music and few lines of dialogue, the crisp sound of the lighter and burning paper when they inhale.  Sound porn.

Druck is really trying to play with our feelings and confusing us for fun.  Isak wore gray in og, and Even wore blue...but Isak was the first to touch Even’s hair...but it’s reverse here.  It’s not that deep...but what if it is???

Definite (possibly) Only Lovers Left Alive reference?  OLLA had a bunch of spinning shots but this early scene is the only one where Adam & Eve were still and the camera panned around them.  The rest of the time the cam was stationary.

And the Mile High lyrics and the way they tie in perfectly with this scene...it’s so good.

The “don’t know where you stop and where I begin” made me think of OLLA and my mind is exploding lol:

s3 soundtrack feels

OG:  all very influenced by hip-hop like Nas, some 90′s, epic moment with Kanye Hold My Liquor at end of ep5, and included some newer R&B with Drake and The Weeknd.  Majority felt like music Isak would pick for his own soundtrack.

Italia (s2): general electronica-based feel with Self Control from the 80′s (during party kiss scene) + Le ragazze + instrumental music like Moon when they were running away together or Faceless when Marti running back to Nico in ep9.  Big standouts that were more hip-hop/dance based were Magenta Riddim in opening party and Gosh by Jamie XX when Marti walked to Gay Street and they both made a big impact.

France: pretty sure France was not geo-blocked because they did not go for expensive music licensing that would restrict the show to France only.  Instead they went with lower cost music that is published specifically to use in music soundtracks.  However, this did not take away from the music quality because the piano scores amped up the emotion and I’ll never forget Last Dance.  And since they couldn’t pick from a larger music library the use of Fete de Trop and Remember felt that much more powerful. 

Druck: soundtrack feels like a spotify playlist built by a group of friends.  Mix of some lighter poppy songs, some dipping into slower indie moments, some light hip-hop and r&b, some german rock/pop + a Tumblr aesthetic with its Billie and Troye moments.

Random Side Note: Nico & Eliott both shared their...unique music tastes in ep2 but, unlike og, they did not influence later soundtrack choices.  Nas and Romeo + Juliet had a big impacts on s3′s storyline with epic scenes like Talk Show Host in the schoolyard + Kissing You in the pool scene + Nas’ music highlighting some light and heavy moments for Isak.  I was really wondering where the Eliott’s dubstep reference was going to come back in...guess I should luckier it didn’t come back lol?

What do you think about overall soundtrack feels?  Am I wrong/missed something?  Do you wish a soundtrack went a different way?
