Danny was Damian’s twin—the weaker one, the one considered lesser in every way. From the beginning, he knew Damian wasn’t at fault, and he tried to build something resembling an amicable relationship. But in the end, Damian was influenced by the others. Slowly, almost unconsciously, he began treating Danny like an extension of himself—someone without independent thoughts or feelings.

That was why Danny never felt guilty about faking his death or staying hidden, even after he learned Damian had separated from the League of Assassins. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to reconcile, or that he wasn’t curious about his biological father. But if there was one trait that had always been truly Damian’s—not the League’s influence—it was his arrogance.

Danny knew that if they met again, Damian would fall back into old patterns, treating him like something lesser, something owned. And the only way to change that would be to fight him.

Danny was tired of fighting.

He had fought in the League just to stay alive. He had fought to escape. He had fought his way into a new and unfamiliar family. He fought as Phantom to protect his city. He fought as a student just to keep up while nearly dying every day. He fought to keep his parents from discovering the truth, all while trying to hold on to their love.

He had studied the Bats, observed their relationships, trying to understand if there might be a place for him among them. There could be—but he knew he would have to fight for it.

And he was so, so tired of fighting.

If Dani hadn’t been discovered by them, he would have stayed away from their world entirely.
