SOMEONE IS COMING BACK TO WHSV
We grow so many fine journalists at WHSV and watch them move on to bigger markets and the hustle and bustle of the big cities. But sometimes people learn those big cities just don't match up to the beauty and friendliness of the Valley.
In a week, one of those people will be returning to TV - 3. We hope you will welcome this person back with open arms!

GOODBYE MCKINSEY HARRIS!!!
It is a sad time but also an exciting time as we say goodbye to WHSV News 3 Reporter McKinsey Harris. McKinsey is getting married  in June and moving back to her hometown of Charlotte, NC. She is also beginning a new job as a reporter for News 14 Charlotte. McKinsey has loved spending the past two years in the Shenandoah Valley and she will miss her News 3 family and all the wonderful people she met during her time here. Good Luck, McKinsey!!! We'll miss you!!!
MEET KAY NORRED - WHSV NEWS 3 ASSISTANT NEWS DIRECTOR
Kay Norred is the Assistant News Director for WHSV News 3, but that isn't the only thing she does here. She produces our 6PM news, which means she selects the stories that go in that show. In addition, you may see Kay on the air from time to time filling in on the Morning, Noon or Weekend show.
Kay loves animals especially her own dog RUSTY! You can see she has no shortage of pictures on her desk. She is from Florida but loves the Shenandoah Valley!
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS MALLORY DOING?????
We are now less that two weeks away from having WHSV newscasts in HD! So, we are in the middle of rehearsals because there are a lot of new things that will need to happen before we go live on the air. Our new weather desk is quite tall so when Mallory Brooke sits, she almost disappears!!! The rehearsals are time consuming but necessary so we can be ready to hit the air with it on June 1st. Stay tuned....
CUTE PUPPY IN THE NEWSROOM!!!
Every week, the SPCA brings some adorable animal into the newsroom and the news folks love it. We see the cutest puppies and kittens in here. They are all looking for good homes. We wish we could adopt them all but we feel good about putting them on TV and showing the viewers how cute they are. We get to play with them for a little while before they go off to their new home and people really get a kick out of it. Thanks to all the viewers who have adopted a pet after watching them on WHSV! THE SPCA has A LOT of animals that need good homes, so if you need a new friend, give them a call!!!!
THE DANGERS OF "LIVE" TV!!!
Poor Josh Knight! He is such a great meteorologist and great person all around. We got his permission to tell this embarrassing story! Anyway, we are going through our HD transition so there are some things that aren't working quite right. As we work out the bugs, there are things that happen. Josh was waiting for a commercial to end and was in deep thought when he was on the AIR live!!! He jumped to attention when he realized, but we all got to watch him for at least 10Â seconds just thinking about things! FUNNY!!!
MOTHER'S DAY REUNION
Every Mother's Day is special but what happens when your son is overseas, fighting for our freedom. You won't want to miss this very special Mother's Day Reunion by WHSV News 3 anchor Ed Drantch. Watch it Sunday, May 8th at 11pm!

WILD WEATHER NIGHT - TORNADO WARNINGS
Wow! It was a wild weather night and Thursday morning 4/28! We had close to a dozen separate tornado warnings in the Shenandoah Valley! The WHSV First Alert Storm Team was on the air for 5 1/2 hours overnight and then had full team coverage on our DayBreak morning show.
Everyone worked really hard to make sure you were safe and well informed overnight!
GOOD NEIGHBORS! - WE WANT TO MEET THEM!
We all know the Shenandoah Valley is a great place to live. We love it mainly because of the great neighbors who live around us. So we want to hear from you! If you know a neighbor who goes above and beyond and really is a great example of what the Shenandoah Valley has to offer, then we want to hear from you. HINTS OF WHSV HD!
So have you ever looked at WHSV to see the time or temperature? You know, it's that thing in the lower right corner of the TV screen. It's called a "bug" and it's our logo with the time and temperature under it. A lot of people say it's the clock they use when they get ready in the morning. Well, that "bug" is going to get a bit fancier when we go HD in about a month. Take a look!
Be sure to watch for a few seconds!
FIRST ALERT STORM TEAM - GREAT JOB!!!!
It was a wild weekend covering the storms and tornadoes in our area. Our team worked really hard to keep you safe. Here's a little piece highlighting the coverage from the weekend! Thanks to all the folks that turned to us to find out what was happening in their communities.
TERRANCE KELLY - WHSV NEWS 3 ASSIGNMENT MANAGER
Do you ever wonder who takes a look at all the emails and press releases we get? It's mostly Terrance. He is our assignment manager and is essentially the "brain" of our newsroom. He is the one that keeps all the happenings in the Valley organized and it isn't an easy job! You can see him hard at work on the phones on our assignment desk.
He does a great job! He was working in Norfolk at WTKR but is now having fun with us here in Harrisonburg!
SHENANDOAH COUNTY DARING WATER RESCUES
After the storms were over on Saturday (4/16/2011) the water in the rivers and creeks continued to rise. Here are some pictures showing rescues in Shenandoah County went well into the night.
In the first picture, crews prepare to launch Strasburg Fire Department boats to rescue a woman in her partially-submerged vehicle near Red Banks Road and Massanutten Park.
The other pictures show a partially submerged car in the middle of the water. Crews successfully rescued a woman from this car.
You can also see rescuers save a man stranded in a tree in the middle of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River! Crews from Strasburg and Orkney Springs stand with a Strasburg Fire Department boat after successfully rescuing the man.

WOMAN SAVED FROM RAGING WATERS IN SHENANDOAH COUNTY
Saturday (4/16/11) storms not only brought tornadoes to the Shenandoah Valley, it also caused rivers and creeks to rise to dangerous levels. Here are some pictures of the brave men and women of the Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue.
The first picture shows rescuers sending out a life ring to a woman stranded on the roof of her vehicle in Mill Creek! She was rescued and taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
The second picture shows a rescuer shouting instructions to the woman stranded on her roof.

HARD WORKING WHSV METEOROLOGISTS
WHSV Meteorologists Aubrey Urbanowicz and Mallory Brooke hard at work in the First Alert Storm Center as Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Torndao Warnings threaten the Shenandoah Valley. Great job keeping us informed Aubrey and Mallory!
STUARTS DRAFT TORNADO AFTERMATH
This is video from the Stuarts Drafta area of Augusta County of possible Tornado damage on Saturday, April 16th 2011. The video was shot by WHSV viewer Chris Hawley. The video shows damage to barns and other buildings.

Meet the newest member of WHSV. It's Alyson Bruner! She's our 5pm Anchor. While she is from Chicago, she loves Virginia. She went to Liberty University and worked in Roanoke.
