I found a meme on Facebook, decided to fix it up a little for all the struggling writers
Also fits the "the picture in my head" vs "when I try to draw it" problem of artist... 😥
Thing is, the second image still shows a lot of skill, it's just fulfilling a different function than the one above
While the top image is heavily detailed, it takes a while to look over and process visually. The second one is recognizable to our brains much quicker because of the simple stylization.
The artist of the second one knew how to convey a t-rex, to the majority of people who would view it, with only a bunch of squares and two whole colours.
Maybe your fanfiction doesn't need to be overly detailed to convey your story. Maybe you're a more concise writer, not cluttering your sentences up with prose when getting right to the point is your strong suit. Taking a pair of scissors to unnecessary background detail isn't bad, just different, and is appealing to the people who know to appreciate it.
Nothing wrong with making an adorable monochromatic pixel t-rex.
