The World Celebrates Holi

Today Hindus everywhere celebrated Holi, an annual festival of colors held at the end of winter. In temples, the faithful prayed as colored powder and jets of colored water were sprayed upon them. Thousands of white-clothed revelers in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal took to the streets to throw bright powders and perfumes at each other, and many captured the celebrations on Instagram.

Thousands Turn Out for Supreme Court Cases on Same-Sex Marriage

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States takes up the first of two high-profile cases on the issue of same-sex marriage, and thousands of people have turned out on the courthouse steps to make their opinions heard.

Today’s case, Hollingsworth v. Perry, involves a challenge to Proposition 8, a referendum passed in 2008 outlawing same-sex marriage in California. Tomorrow, the court will hear a case challenging the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law that prohibited the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage for a host of federal purposes, including Social Security benefits, immigration and taxes.

A Little Pep Talk

Each year, I am honored to receive tickets to the annual CNN Heroes Event in Los Angeles. Although the work that I do inspires me every day, it is this event that ignites me with hope and passion for the new upcoming year.  This awards show is like none other...it portrays the true meaning of "Hero", highlighting ordinary people like you and me who are doing extraordinary things in this world.  When you hear such incredible stories and learn about these amazing people, it truly makes you think,  "If they can do it, so can I...it just takes a little bit to go a long way." Thank you CNN for inspiring me every year!
