I find it very offensive that the more unwell you are, the more things you have to do to maintain your health. Things like following special diets, going to medical appointments, making big and important decisions about what treatments to use. At the same time, the more unwell you are the less energy you have to do all of these extra things. It seems grossly unfair.

Like i can't even get out of bed man, how am i supposed to cook full meals that are "better" for me, go outside for the sun when my head hurts and my autonomic system ain't doin it's thing so my eyes legs and so much more hurt, but when it comes to mobility aids I'm not "sick enough" or I'm "giving up",i haven't been outside.

It's like they're saying "do this!",okay i tried I'm in a flare up now. "Don't do it then if u don't want to get better" HUH?

what is it with able bodied people saying “get well soon” after you say that you’re chronically ill?? like? i am not gonna? and i once literally responded with “i’m not gonna, it’s chronic, as in permanent.” and they went like “oh well, hope you get better!” like bro 💀

I hate when that happens so much but it’s even worse because they often mean well (although being hella ableist). I think it stems from the fact that able-bodied people aren’t taught how to interact with the concept of disability, it’s often too uncomfortable of a conversation to have since it’s still treated as a taboo topic (especially when children are involved. Adults get so uncomfortable when having to explain disability to children, often telling them not to ask questions rather than explaining disability in good faith.). I feel like if disability was explained at an early age as something normal, we would have this problem less. Honestly, just having more widespread visibility would help too.

But anyways, if I have to hear another “get well soon” I’m going to start hitting people with my cane. I’ll call it the “anti-ableism bonking stick” or smth.
