James and the Giant Peach is probably one of the top 3 best animated movies ever, and if you don’t think so, then I guess you’re not really a person, are you?
Do we see the vision?
I was researching what the vision of different kind of bugs is like, so here’s some facts about the vision of silver orb weavers (assuming that’s what she is)
weavers are nocturnal, and are extremely sensitive to light
weavers have eight eyes. maybe she keeps four of them closed during the day because it’s too bright? (then again, it’s a child’s film so who cares if the puppet is anatomically accurate)
weavers only see in blue and green. this is to help them better differentiate between objects at nighttime
weavers have this thing called guanine-based tapetum in their eyes. this helps to reflect visible light back through the retina. this also gives the eyes this “glowy” effect in the dark, very similar to how cats’ eyes glow. please take the time to imagine waking up in the night to grab some water, and walking into the kitchen to see Ms. Spider’s eyes glowing at you
jatgp >>>> chatgpt
chatgpt? no thanks. i’ll ask the six bugs living in the giant peach.
i told the old green grasshopper that people use ai, and he just shook his head with sadness. i told the french spider people use ai, and she said people lost their taste for true art. i told the kind ladybug people used ai, and she couldn’t even figure out what ai is. the centipede laughed with malice, the blind worm moaned with despair, and the glowworm couldn’t hear what i was saying.
i don’t think those six big bugs approve of using ai, so i don’t think we should use it
shout out to demonwolf88 on ao3 for making like half of the jatgp fanfics on there
its a shame there hasnt been a james and the giant peach analog horror made
it's canon in the book that Mrs. Ladybug goes on to marry the head of the fire department. however, i will pretend i didnt know this information and that she is with mr. grasshopper instead
Glowworm fact
Glowworms are actually the larvae of different kinds of winged-insects. according to wikipedia, they are “any member of various groups of insect larvae and adult larviform females that glow through bioluminescence”
because the glowworm is a very mature female that isn’t winged, she’s probably a larviform female! just thought this was interesting
she’s such an underrated character, i wish we saw more of her in the movie
amazing jatgp fanfic

art block happened so I scribble-sketched this lmao
right now, I actually can’t say for sure what my favourite scene across all of JATGP is, so I went with what I know is my favourite one from the musical (and a strong contender for my fav scene in general): the Reprise of “On Your Way Home” :D
I may or may not turn this into a refined coloured art piece at some point, so in the case that I don’t (highly likely), here ya go
(the three Centipedes in the first box are the counterparts from the book, film and musical [I’m sure you can tell which is which] and “Welcome Home” is the final song of the musical [excluding Curtain Call])

Round 1, Poll 109/128
did she … get a phd?
did this ladybug get a medical license? how long did that take????
since grasshoppers, ladybugs, centipedes, and spiders have small fine hairs on their bodies, i can imagine the family developing gray and white hairs as they age
i can imagine a paler, white-haired grasshopper enjoying his time with adult james
