.... to be useful. This phrase has always stuck in my craw like a popcorn hull. Useful. Useful to whom? How do you practice such usefulness? What does usefulness look like? Does it not preclude the self? Are you to give to others and to ignore yourself? Does that include the greater good? What is the greater good in terms of usefulness? Are we to flitter about in our own versions of The Truman Show? Does usefulness mean busy-ness without remarkable result? Are others to determine usefulness? So many questions.
