20 Ouija Board Misconceptions
1. Ouija boards are not dangerous.
2. Ouija boards do not open portals to anything.
3. You cannot contact a demon with a Ouija board.
4. You cannot become possessed through the Ouija board.
5. It is important to say Goodbye when you’re finished, but not because you’ll be haunted forever if you do. It’s just politeness.
6. There is no magical method of getting rid of a Ouija board. You do not have to burn it, bury it, split it in seven, gift it, etc.
7. Yes, Ouija boards ARE just games.
8. According to the toy company that manufactures Ouija boards, they are safe for children aged 8 and up.
9. The stories you hear from other people are most likely fake or blown way out of proportion. You cannot trust Ouija board stories because they are, simply, stories, especially if they’re told by people over 25.
10. Playing in a graveyard is perfectly fine, as is playing in your home or anywhere.
11. Playing on Halloween is perfectly fine.
12. Playing alone can put you at risk, but more than likely nothing will happen if you try.
13. Ouija boards cannot predict when you will die or tell you an accurate prediction of your future.
14. If your planchette starts moving in circles, moves off the board, spells certain words over and over, counts down the numbers, points to something not on the board, etc, it means nothing. Also, leaving the planchette on the board when you’re not playing will do nothing.
15. Zozo and Mama are not evil entities or demons, and are nothing to worry about.
16. There are certain rules to playing, but all of them boil down to “Be polite”.
17. Ouija boards are not reliable sources to contact deceased loved ones, as you’re far more likely to contact someone pretending to be them. This also goes for spirit guides.
18. Ouija board clothes and accessories will not get you “haunted”.
19. If you think you’re being haunted after you play, it’s far more likely your brain playing tricks on you.
20. Ouija boards are not divination tools nor are they religious tools for Wiccans, Satanists, or any other belief.
Rule of thumb: if you hear something online about Ouija boards, which are literally just pieces of cardboard with letters and numbers on it, and you think, “Wow, that sounds awfully unlikely,” then it isn’t true. Ouija boards don’t have mysterious mystical powers, YOU are the one with the power. Without you, it’s just cardboard. You are the one that gives it energy, so if you play with a scared and afraid energy, you’re going to receive that energy back, and you’re gonna have a bad time.
