Bruxólica

This piece is a tribute to the witches of Florianópolis, a place also known as the “Island of Magic”. In some stories, fishermen recounted that witches danced inside their fishing nets.

Anakin works in sanitation at a marine research facility and falls in love with a captive mermaid. Obi-Wan is standoffish at first, but Anakin eventually gains his trusts and breaks him out! Obi-Wan doesn’t make it easy for him though.

Once Padmé warns Anakin that her team has decided to start implementing more extreme measures on their merman to get him to cooperate, Anakin decides he has no choice but to break him out and get him back to the ocean!

Obi-Wan places his trust in Anakin to get him home, but he will complain the entire time.

Obi-Wan senses the orca in the tank next to his is ill. During one of Anakin’s visits, he convinces him to open the gate and let him heal the sick whale.

“How did you do that?”

“It is something my people have always done. We use the energy around us to heal those in need… Thank you, Anakin.”

“For what?”

“Allowing me to help her. You are… different than the other humans here.”

“I like to think so.”

It turns out Anakin’s suspicions were correct! The merman can speak! And he’s kind of an asshole! Unfortunately for Anakin, Padmé doesn’t seem to care about the merman’s surly attitude. If Anakin is the only human he will speak to, he’s going to go back there (again) and gather as much information about his kind as possible if she has anything to say about it.

“You want me to go back?”

“You’re the only one he’s spoken to since he’s been here! If you don’t talk to him again, I’ll tell everyone how you really got this job.”

“Fine.”

“…I don’t get it, Anakin. I’ve been studying merpeople since I was a child. We’ve made countless attempts to communicate with him-using every tool at our disposal. How is it all you have to do is fall into his tank and now he’s willing to chat?”

“I don’t know, Padmé. I guess I’m just irresistible.”

I'm continuing the story from last year's Mermay! (ft. captive merman Obi-Wan and sanitation worker Anakin)

During his shift, Anakin stumbles, hits his head, and falls into Obi-Wan's tank. Obi-Wan rescues him and swims away without a word. Anakin's heard the researchers say that merpeople are mute, but he's convinced Obi-Wan not only understands humans, but can speak. So he decides the next day, he will go back and thank him.
