The PROLOGUE is here! I’ve never drawn a full comic before, it was a challenge but I rlly like how it turned out! This chapter was very short but chapter one will be longer for introductions. In case of confusion, the dead employee is made up, just some random dude I drew for the story.

Sabre starting out with this sense of childlike wonder just trying to explore a new world and make all new friends but as villains and bad people keep appearing he slowly looses that childlike wonder and starts caring less and less about trying to do anything to comfortable live or survive because in the end he knows there's going to be something worse than the last problem he just fixed and there's no point in trying to fix anything.

“you have to promise me that you’re going to do everything in your power to live” (MAG 191) is a crazy statement for at least 3 reasons

we know how promises work with jmart. do i really need to elaborate on this point.

“everything in your power” doesn’t just mean like “oh he’ll try.” it doesn’t mean “oh he’ll do what He can.” it means Everything. Everything the Eye offers him, everything he’s gained, even the positives from things he’s lost. martin knows well what abilities jon has—a lot—and also what he doesn’t have. which is not a small amount, but jon is litchrally The Archivist. he’s the ceaseless watchers special little boy. he has power. & martin wants him to use it to save himself

saying “live” is so so important especially from martin. martin, infamous for “we all survive” (MAG 159) and who also knows jon “doesn’t just want to survive,” (159) who knows jon, at one point, wanted more. and to say “live” rather than “survive” means martin means live—that he wants jon to be conscious, have feelings, remember things. just breathing isn’t enough, just being a body in a bed isn’t enough. martin knows that. shoutout jon coma arc

AND. ON TOP OF THAT. he also knows that jon isn’t particularly world’s biggest self preservation fan. he knows, literally from the beginning, jon doesn’t eat well, sleep well, anything well (except work lol). but he also knows that jon does most of the things he does for martin. so he asks “take care of yourself for me” which is an infinitely harder request than so many other things. “take care of me for me,” okay sure, jon can do that, taking care of martin is easy when he loves him so much. “take care of (them) for me,” ok done, if you want me to, if you care for them, i’ll do it, i’ll take care of them. and martin looks at that concept and says, “okay, i care for you. take care of yourself for me.”

for someone like jon (and martin too, really), prioritizing himself is the ultimate ask. and martin asks it. AND MARTIN ASKS IT

Can I just say how much I love this guy? He's crazy, knows it, and doesn't apologies for being so. And oml he's so cute with his little sister, remember when he clocked Carmelo is that jaw with a torch for pretend robbing her of the Halloween candy? That was fun... also his hair is ON POINT. He's got pretty eyes, such a nice purple. Also he's bilingual, dunno if that's only impressive to me, but I find that super impressive. I'm not good with English let alone other languages. I'm getting off topic... what was I talking about again? Oh right, love this purple eyed crazy little (tall) creature. Thank you, Circus Papa.
