Bobby knowing for a fact that John never celebrated Dean’s birthday. After John dies, Bobby makes an effort. Nothing over the top. Just a subtle reminder he knows his boy’s birthday. When Dean and Sam are crashing at his place between cases and it happens to coincide with Dean’s birthday, Bobby gets up and makes pancakes, leaving a stack on the table for Dean. He whips up bacon and sets the maple syrup out, with a bottle of beer as an added touch. The breakfast of champions for the birthday boy. And when Dean wakes up, he sees the table set with his favorite breakfast, and there’s a newspaper and laptop set out next to the pancakes. Dean gets up and sees a note. “Your choice for the hunt. Whatever case you want. Open to tune up the Impala with you if you want a quiet day. Happy birthday. - Bobby.” Dean will never admit it, but even the little acknowledgment and message was the sweetest thing he’s ever been treated to. He folds the note and tucks it in his wallet, keeping it close as a reminder that his family cares
