A few days after the Muggle London escapade, Tracey decides to visit Daphne. Written with the lovely @inthekeyofdaphne
Tracey was heading down the hallway to Daphne’s room. She came to a halt and knocked on her door. “Daph, sweetheart! Are you in there?” She said, her accent as thick as ever.
“I am. Come in,” Daphne says, putting aside her Magical Musical Theory homework for now. Tracey opens the door, a broad smile on her face. “Hey there, girl.” She says coming inside, holding a box with her hands. “What do you have there?” Daphne motions at the box, moving over to sit on her bed. Tracey sits down next to her and hands her the box. “I managed to ‘bake’ some cookies for you”
“Why 'bake’?” Daphne laughs, taking the box. “Did something go wrong?” She opens it up with a raised eyebrow. “Hardly, I just made a complete mess but they turned out just good.” Tracey laughs a bit reminding of the challenge baking was to her. “I had to make nutella from scratch.” Daphne picks up a cookie and bites into it, nodding appreciatively. “Not bad, Trace,” she smiles. “Why the special occasion?”
“You know how my mind goes wild when I’m bored.” She says taking a small piece of cookie and eating it. “Blaise had just left my room and I got bored again and I thought 'why the hell not? Let’s bake something’.” Daphne puts the box on her dresser, snorting. “Thanks. It might take me a while to eat them all, though. Hannah makes a lot of sweets, so I have to ration myself,” she shrugs.
“You’ll go fat.” Tracey teases her as she pokes her stomach where she knows she’s ticklish. “I will not!” Daphne giggles, grabbing Tracey’s hand. “Like I said, I’ve been very careful.” She glances down at where Tracey’s hand is clasped in hers and flushes slightly. Tracey smiles awkwardly and retreats her hand back to her lap. “Good. No one wants to shag a chubby girl.” She says and then places a hand on her shoulder. “I’m kidding Daphne.” Tracey laughs when she sees her pull a frown.
Daphne shrugs it off. “Honestly though, you know me. I can’t gain weight even if I try,” she pulls a face at her body. She’s always been a little too small, a little too flat-chested, she supposes. “Oh, I know! I envy you for that!” Tracey says as she lies down on her back on Daphne’s bedspread. “Every girls’ dream.” She stretches her arms and her blouse lifts slightly up showing her flat stomach without her noticing. “Tch, Trace. You know you’re hot,” Daphne lays down next to her, eyeing her friend speculatively. “Even I think so.”
“Of course I know so.” Tracey says in a petulant tone. “Everyone does.” Tracey winks an eye at her as she turns around resting her head on her hand. Daphne raises her eyebrows. “So what were you doing in Blaise’s room? He’s the rival for your affections, no?”
“Correction. He was in my room.” She says holding up a finger as if to make herself clear. “And he was fucking me senselessly.” She says shamelessly with a grin plastered on her face. “But, he’s still my friend. Besides, they’re no longer together. "Sated now, are we?” Daphne says, sounding a little wistful.
If given the chance to get a new roommate would you take it?
Erm. I suppose not. I get along rather well with @growingchocolatefrogs, and I wouldn’t want to getting a potentially worse roommate just for the slim chance of a better one.
So, who’s up for a little get together in my room? I may or may not have pilfered a variety of alcohols from the kitchens under the very capable noses of the house elves and want to get everyone together to just hangout. Any takers?

*blushes* yes, ernie did spend the night. We only snagged though, nothing more! So far at least….but otherwise my life has been as usual, baking sweets for my friends and to hand to people who might become my friends, teasing Seamus, and as always sneaking down to the kitchens at least twice a week. What’s up in your life Daphne?
Ah, the usual. Classes, et cetera. No love interests yet, though congrats on yours. Hmm, it sounds like I’m maybe a bit too apathetic about my own life, but that’s not quite right… Eh, I’m just not in the mood for TOO much drama, you know?
I totally understand the whole not wanting drama thing, I didn’t want any either this year, this being the first normalize school year since I was eleven. Weird stuff keeps happening here, has ever since the chamber of secrets was opened in second year….I don’t think it’s a matter of apathy is just….all of us are used to bigger things to report….
Yeah, exactly. Although maybe a bit of relationship drama wouldn’t be too bad, who knows? I did get a bit of that over the summer though, my regular French fling decided to go and get engaged… *laughs* Thankfully I do all right by myself. And there’s always my little sis to watch if I want drama, no offense to her of course.
Yeah watching other people’s drama is usually a lot funner than having drama happen to you, it seems more like a muggle sitcom and removed from the situation you can generally see the humor in things more. Personally I don’t like drama happening to me I just like watching it.
I will definatly try to tell you if I need the room, I’ll likely send you a message if I do end up needing the room. Also try to tell me if you need the room, I’m sure Shay or ernie would be fine with me crashing with them!
To save time (so I don’t have to scroll through everyone’s blogs for eternity) whoever wants a ‘congrats on the sex’ cake should message me or reblog this with a comment or such.

((A private conversation between Daphne and diamonds-andwhatnot!))
Daphne climbs up the stairs to Tracey's room, knocking lightly when she reaches the door. "Trace? You ready?"
Tracey tosses aside her Arithmancy book as she flicks her wand to open the door. "I am ready." She says as she gets up and grabs her black coat and a red infinity scarf. "It's getting chilly in London. Don't you want me to lend you a coat?"
Daphne realizes that she is, in fact cold, and nods her head. "Or I can run and get mine, if it's too much of a bother."
"Of course not!" Tracey says as she quickly disappears to her walk-in closet and returns a few seconds later with a beige Burberry hip-length coat. "There you go, should fit you."
"Perfect. Thanks, love," Daphne gives a rare smile as she slips the coat on. "I was so preoccupied in finding an outfit that I could easily try things on in that I completely forgot to bring mine... Anyway, shall we?" She gestures to the hallway.
"Don't worry. I got your back." Tracey smiles and starts to walk outside her room and towards the oak entrance doors.
"You always do, don't you?" Daphne follows along, mostly silent until they reach the entrance. As she steps outside, the air is brisk and chilly, and she's grateful that Tracey had thought to lend her a coat. "Separate or side-along?"
Tracey brings up her arm and offers it to her. "What do you think?" She snuggles closer to her scarf as the wind caresses her skin.
"I was hoping you'd say that. I'm shite at it, you know," Daphne says ruefully, entwining her arm tightly with Tracey's. "Lead the way, then, love."
Tracey smiles as she apparates to Bond Street, the very place for luxury. She lets go of Daphne's arm and intertwines her fingers with hers as she barely drags her to Chanel. "I heard the fall collection is just in."
"Ooh, good. I've always preferred fall colors anyway." Daphne lets herself be pulled along, glancing around at all the people talking and shopping in the beautiful autumn afternoon. It's less busy than she would have expected, which is always a good thing. "Have you been wanting to buy anything in particular?"
"I am thinking on throwing a party for my eighteenth birthday," Tracey says, her eyes taking in every piece of clothing, the brown and red shades filling her eyes with a sentiment of coziness. "I need something rather unique for me to wear, and obviously Coco is the answer." Tracey smirks as she browses the women's section.
"That's right, your birthday's soon, isn't it?" Daphne drifts behind her. Something catches her gaze out of the corner of her eye, and she tugs at Tracey's arm to show her. "This would look really lovely on you, doll." It's a high necked, sleeveless dress in a deep red with attractive shirring in the middle and delicate, revealing cutouts down the sides.
"Well, don't you know me." Tracey flashes her a wide smile as she grabs the dress with her hands, her fingers running along the fabric. "I think I may try it." She says as she grabs another dress in a lovely shade of navy blue, a skater skirt and lace from the waistline up. "Only if you try this one."
"You've got the best eye," Daphne takes it from her, pleased. "I think I will. Meet outside the changing rooms?"
"Sure. But I want you to be ruthless." She smiles at her and gets inside one of the dressing rooms and starts to strip her clothes, leaving them in the floor.
"Of course, love. We can't have you looking drab at your own party, no?" Daphne steps into the neighboring dressing room, carefully pulling off Tracey's coat and hanging it on the wall before pulling off her shoes and dress and slipping into the blue one. It fits her like a glove. It's not something she would have picked for herself, but she's wonderfully surprised at how it looks in the mirror. Somehow, Tracey always knows what will look good. She steps out, barefoot and a little cold. "I'm done!"
"So am I." Tracey replies as she steps out of the dressing room. Her hair is slightly wild, as she had ruffled it with the clothing change. The dress looks stunning on her as it hugs her outline, forming a perfect hourglass figure. "So, what do you think?" She says as she turns around so Daphne can appreciate every angle and search for any flaws.
Daphne's mouth falls open. Tracey looks stunning. She looks her up and down, searching in vain for any flaws--there aren't any, of course. "Wow, Trace..." She averts her eyes, looking at the floor. "That's gorgeous."
"Thank you!" She says giggling as she rests her hands beside her hips. "But you, oh my God. You look so sweet I might get diabetes," Tracey says, smiling at her as she grabs her hand and makes her twirl.
Daphne smirks at the pun, spinning at Tracey's behest. "I swear, you know what looks good on me better than I know myself." She stops spinning, a little dizzy, and looks Tracey up and down once more. "But honestly, I can't see anything wrong. You pull off sexy really well, Trace. If you like that, you should definitely get it," she motions to Tracey's dress.
"I definitely should, right?" Tracey smirks and bites her bottom lip in excitement. "I do look ravishing." Tracey flips her hair aside in a sexy movement as she struts back to the dressing room, laughing at her own act.
"I say go for it!" Daphne slips back into her dressing room, chuckling. She changed into her own clothes again, sighing at the warmth of Tracey's jacket, and checks quickly to make sure she hasn't left anything behind before stepping out into the store again. "Do you think I should get this?" She hold up the blue dress. It's grown on her, and it really is a gorgeous color.
"Of course!" Tracey grabs both the dresses and Daphne's hand as she literally drags her to the counter and pays for both the dresses with her credit card. "There you go," Tracey says as she hands her a Chanel black bag with her dress inside it.
"Tracey!! You didn't!" Daphne gasps, taking the bag. "...Fine. But you have to let me buy you something else... I believe you mentioned Victoria's Secret?"
"I believe so too," Tracey smiles at her as she tangles their arms and walk down the street heading to the pink-striped store. "I just love this place. You can never get enough of it!" says Tracey in excitement as she pulls Daphne closer.
Daphne shivers, huddling close to Tracey--it's getting closer to evening, now, and thus chillier. She's relieved when they walk into the store where it's warm. "I love it too," she eyes the lingerie speculatively. "You know, it's funny--I buy bras and panties here all the time, but I've never bought actual lingerie? It just always felt a little silly when I tried it on."
"Oh, c'mon!" Tracey laughs a bit as she nudges her side. "It's by far the best part of one's outfit. The one that not just anyone has the privilege to admire. So one must be very careful when it comes to choosing."
"I like the idea, but it requires so much forethought, you know?" Daphne says, but then sighs indulgently. "All right, if I find something I like, I might get it, then."
"It does not. I can assure you that." Tracey shows her a set of black lace lingerie. "See? It's simple yet pretty. But most importantly, it's lingerie. Boys do not care about this, as much as they're concerned you could be wearing your grandma's knickers and they'll still fuck you." Tracey smirks and grabs a pair of baby pink french knickers. "What truly matters, is that you feel comfortable and pretty in what you're wearing. So it doesn't matter what it's on you, they'll be drooling all over the bed."
"Hmm... that's true. I suppose I never really thought it through before." Daphne's mouth twists. "That reminds me... ugh, boys. How awful lately, no?" She picks up a slightly hideous purple thing, giggling at it slightly, and puts it back down. "Oh, this might match your dress, love," she shoves the purple thing aside to get at the red set behind it.
Tracey examines the lingerie set and frowns a bit. "Too much red don't you think? I'm trying to get a guy, not a bull." She laughs and sets her eyes on a black piece near the fragrance section. "This one, might suit it. And hopefully someone might be able to see it." She smiles widely as she grabs a set of her size.
"That's very pretty," Daphne approves. "Someone, as in... Theo?"
Tracey turns her head to look at her. "H-How in the world did you find that out? Am I that see-through?" Tracey frowns slightly.
"Of course not!" Daphne says quickly. "You just mentioned his name when you invited me out, and I just figured that it was him you'd been talking about..." She smooths her dress nervously. "We don't have to talk about it if you want to, though," she backtracks.
She does a gesture to indicate importance to the subject. "I don't mind. It is him, indeed." She says as she fidgets with a pair of lace underwear.
"I should've seen that coming, I suppose," Daphne murmurs, picking up a bra and inspecting the price-tag. "You did have that rare crush on him in fourth year, after all." She sighs. Not that Tracey is in the wrong, but Daphne herself has never felt really comfortable around Theo. And of course it has to be him that Tracey has fallen for. She'd been hoping that she was wrong... Nonetheless, she plasters on a smile. "I think this is pretty," she points at a shimmery cream ensemble.
"You don't seem too happy with my choice, do you?" Tracey grabs the bra from Daphne's hands and puts it down. "Just say it."
Daphne opens her mouth, then closes it. "I..." She stops. They're treading dangerous waters now, and she's not sure if she wants to reveal everything she's thinking, not at all. "I'm not... fond of him. But if he were to make you happy, Trace..." she stares at the floor.
"Daphne... you know you can tell me anything. You'll still be my friend." She holds one of her hands between hers and gives it a gentle squeeze.
Daphne bites her lip fiercely. The truth is that she can't tell Tracey, not without hurting her, but... "I'm not good at talking about my thoughts, you know," she points out.
"You're making me worry. Is it so bad?" Tracey says, a frown taking place on her forehead.
Yes. Yes it is. It's forbidden, because it'll ruin everything, and ruining things doesn't fit in with Daphne's logic, not at all. "It's nothing. I don't want to upset you, really," Daphne turns away, looking anywhere but at Tracey.
"Oh my God, Daphne! I love you but you have to tell me now. My mind is running wild and I don't like that." Tracey says, slightly annoyed, her breath accelerating.
"God, Trace, I..." Daphne turns back toward her, face twisted unhappily. "Okay. Fine. I'll tell you, because this is our last year and I have nothing left to lose, okay?" She's shocked that she's even thinking about saying it aloud, because she's never told anyone before, least of all Tracey. Her best friend. The one who acts tough but who always brings Daphne food and blankets when she's sick, the one who's always taking the burden of the world off of Daphne's shoulders. If this ruins everything, it'll be devastating, but the secret's been weighing on her chest for far too long. "I..." She clenches her fists, heartbeat quickening. "You know how you feel about Theo, right now? About how he loves someone else, and how you can never have him? Well, the truth is, I've felt that way about you for years, so..." she trails off, her hands flying over her mouth. She shouldn't have said it. Fuck.
Tracey's mouth drops open as she realizes how hard it must have been for Daphne. She feels her frown deepen as she grabs the hand that's covering Daphne’s mouth and gives it a gentle squeeze. "Daphne, I am so sorry. I truly never saw how you felt about me." Tracey pulls her into a hug, Daphne's head resting in the crook of her neck. "I am so sorry if I can't reciprocate your feelings,” she says as she softly pats her hair. "I appreciate your friendship so much, and I don't want this to drive you away from me."
"I just wanted you to know that I don't expect anything from you," Daphne whispers, but the emotion has left her body. She feels numb. "Just... pretend this never happened. It's just that I heard you hooked up with my sister, and I know it's dumb, but I was really, really jealous," her voice trembles. "I just thought you should know."
Tracey bites her lower lip in a desperate gesture. "I mean, we did... it was just a hook up as you say it... It's not like I have feelings for her aside from friendship." She runs her hands through her hair in an absentminded movement.
"Like I said, it's dumb. Logically, I know that it doesn't mean anything, but why her and Theo and Draco and all the others, and not me? Even if it's meaningless, you've never seemed interested." Daphne is scared to pull away, because if she does that she might start to cry, and that's just something she couldn't deal with right now.
"I-I... Daphne... It's just, I actually saw you as my friend, a genuine friend. And I didn't want to screw that up by having sex with you," Tracey says, trying to comfort her but feeling like she’s failing massively. "I care about you a lot Daphne, I am sorry if it maybe isn't in the way you wanted me to."
Daphne closes her eyes. She can't keep having this conversation, because it's tearing her up inside. "It's not your fault. You haven't done anything wrong. You know what? Just... forget it. Really." She swallows thickly and pulls away, fighting the urge to cry as she turns around and walks toward the door.
Tracey stands there not sure whether to follow her or not. "Daphne! Wait for me please!"
Daphne stops, closing her eyes. "What?" she asks quietly.
"Let's go to this pub I know, we could use a drink."
Act normal, Daphne tells herself. "Okay."
Tracey walks beside her along the street until she finds herself in front of a small pub. "After you." She says, gesturing for her to enter.
Daphne walks immediately up to the bar and orders a double shot of vodka, drumming her fingers against the counter as she waits. This is probably a bad idea, she knows, but what if this is the last time Tracey wants to hang out with her? She has to make the best of it.
Tracey sits on the stool next to her. "This definitely escalated quickly," she thought. "Whiskey on the rocks please," she asks the bartender as she shows him her fake ID. "Have you eaten something? That might get to your head quickly if you haven't." She points to Daphne’s double shot of vodka.
Daphne shakes her head. "I haven't eaten. I'd rather not have to think about how stupid I'm being right now, though." God, her voice sounds so bitter, and she doesn't even mean it to. She picks up her vodka and downs it, squeezing her eyes closed against the burn.
Tracey starts feeling the awkwardness of the situation. Damn Slytherins and their ineptitude with feelings. She sips her drink, pulling not even a frown.
Daphne sighs. "So, why Theo?"
Oh shit, Tracey thinks. Please don't pull that card. "I-I don't know... since the marriage arrangement our parents tried to pull off I've had this thing for him." Tracey says as she traces the line of her tumbler. "Although I did forget about how I felt for him for a while."
"It just... happened, then?" Daphne wonders, staring into her empty pint glass. The alcohol isn't working quite fast enough. She wishes that she could be like Tracey and just forget her feelings, but she's tried, and it's never worked. Just her luck.
Tracey falls silent for a few moments as she struggles to fill the silence. "Daphne... can I ask you the same?" Tracey turns to look at her. "Why me? We've been friends for as long as I can remember and I just... never saw it coming."
Daphne flushes. "I... are you sure you want to hear that?" She swallows nervously, signaling the bartender for another shot of vodka. Once he's given it to her, she drinks it quickly, hoping the buzz will set in soon. "W-well... for starters... I've always thought you were beautiful," she moves her glass back and forth on the countertop. "To tell you the truth, I was really happy when we got close, because I always admired you. You seemed fearless back then, you know?" She shrugs self-consciously. "And then... well, I've always been fucking awful at dating. You remember the really bad break-up I had in sixth year, with that bloke who was two years ahead of us? And how you took care of me for like a week afterwards, and made me go to class and do my homework so that I didn't bomb my midterms? I guess it was then that I decided that maybe it'd just be easier to love you instead." She laughs wryly. "It wasn't easier, not really, because I knew from the beginning that I couldn't tell you... so I hid it. And I... I shouldn't have told you. But seeing you feel the same way I've been feeling for such a long time..." She folds her arms on top of the counter, leaning her head against them. She's starting to feel the alcohol. Good.
Tracey struggles to put her thoughts into words. "I always did those things because I cared for you. I saw you as the sister I never had. Being an only child and you being so defenseless at times, it made want to take care of you. And I’m just thinking of how hard it must have been for you to see me date through our years at Hogwarts," Tracey sighs as she caresses Daphne's head. "Get up, I don't want you to black out."
"'M fine," Daphne sighs, but she sits up anyway. She looks up at Tracey--her best friend. Her bit of brightness in the world. She wipes at her face and is surprised and dismayed to find wetness there. It was inevitable that she was going to start crying tonight, she supposes, but it's still annoying as fuck. "I'm so stupid!" she sniffles, lip trembling. "I-I'm sorry for putting you through this, Trace... I knew you didn't feel how I felt. I just don't know how to make it stop..."
Tracey bites her lip as she cleans Daphne's cheeks with her thumb. "I am sorry, Daphne. I wish I could." She hugs her tightly as she feels how her tears stain her dress.
Burying her head in Tracey's shoulder, Daphne lets herself cry. God, even when she's being an utter mess and confessing her stupid, idiotic love to Trace, Trace is still there for her. In a way, it's almost worse. If she'd up and walked away, Daphne could maybe have forgotten about the pain after one, two years had passed. But no, Tracey is still the girl she loves. "Aren't you mad?" she murmurs.
"With myself. Mostly." She says in almost a whisper, as she keeps gently patting Daphne’s head.
Daphne frowns. "Why? It's not your fault..." The smell of Tracey is comforting, even through the hurt of heartbreak, and she closed her eyes and just breathes it.
"Because I can't reciprocate your feelings." Tracey sighs. "And I just think of how much I hurt you all these years."
"You didn't hurt me. I did this to myself," Daphne shrugs. "So don't... I want you to be happy, so... Don't worry about me." God, how un-Slytherin can she be? Slytherins aren't self-sacrificing; they simply take what they want. But Daphne has no desire to try that with Tracey. She wobbles on her stool, slightly unsteady from crying and vodka, wishing that this could have gone in a different direction.
"Come on. We're leaving." Tracey says as she grabs their bags and helps her get off the stool.
Daphne takes her hand, holding onto it like a lifeline. Home. This is one time where she wishes she didn't have a roommate, because she'd rather the less people see her like this, the better. People ask questions that she'd rather not answer after all. The night is cold, and she remembers that she's still wearing Tracey's jacket. She hopes she can remember to give it back—everything seems a little hazy right now.
Xx
When Tracey hears Daphne wake up from last night's black out, she quickly gets up from the armchair she had slept in and hands her a hangover potion. "Good morning, sunshine." After they had apparated back to Hogwarts, Daphne quickly blacked out and Tracey had to levitate her to Tracey and Morag's bedroom. She then laid Daphne in her bed and wrapped her around her duvet so she would sweat the alcohol of her system.
"Oh, fuck," Daphne mumbles, accepting the hangover potion and wincing at the taste. "Did we get completely shit-faced or something....... oh." Her face pales as she remembers what had happened the night before.
"Yeah... it was rather different from what I was expecting. I am not gonna lie." She sits at the foot of the bed, taking the glass where Daphne had drank the potion away.
Daphne wraps her arms around her knees, pulling them up to her chest. "That's more than a little embarrassing," she admitted. "I hope you know that I only spill my guts like that on an average of once a century, so I guess you were just the lucky one who got to hear it," she tries to joke.
Tracey laughs slightly as she tugs a lock of hair behind her ear. "You shouldn't bottle up so much."
Daphne bites her lip and shrugs. "It's a problem. Always has been. Sis was always the more talkative one when we were young..." She pulls the blanket off of herself, wishing the situation didn't feel so awkward. "If you want... we can go eat breakfast in the kitchens? I don't think my head is ready for the Great Hall yet," she winces.

*blushes* yes, ernie did spend the night. We only snagged though, nothing more!
