Life is still a spontaneous dance for all five original members of the African American, gay and gender non-conforming dance team from Mobile, AL, – Adrian Clemons, Kentrell Collins, Kareem Davis, Jerel Maddox and Tim Smith. When the music stops and challenges arise, the troupe must persevere despite all odds. Together they still face the harsh realities of being who they are in an environment that is unwilling to accept them.

Some of us queer and trans*, but still as Black as Harlem in the 1960s. Recently, this question was posed on social media as the “million dollar question“. I read this message and an energy began to rise in me. I thought, “haven‘t we, Black LGBTIQ, been on the front lines this whole time? Throughout Black history, here and abroad, haven‘t we always been here?“ And so out of this rise of confusion, anger, and frustration I decided to answer the “million dollar question“ with art. The following photos entitled, #AllofMeOrNothing: The Visual Narratives of Black Trans* & Queer People“ is a photojournalistic response to the question posed.
