“my ma keeps offering my a hundred bucks to chop my locks off. she makes the same disappointed face every time i turn her down.”
“She’d really pay that much just for you to cut your hair?”
“nah, not really, this type eats frozen food so it’s pretty chill, i guess. y’just have to make sure it doesn’t escape and stuff.” he laughed, clearly the kid was excited. “just don’t pet her backwards, it’ll hurt ‘er. y’wanna hold her?”
“wicked. how do i keep it from running away while im at school? is it because of the scales on them? Can i hold her?!”
“i already know i’m gonna regret saying this sentence,” he laughed, “wanna pet my snake?”
“No way! You have a snake? Of course, I want to pet it!” Bradley was bouncing in place, the anticipation very high. “Are they hard to take care of? I’ve been wanting one but my dad says I might not take good care of it.”
kori started to feel better when he leaned back a little bit. “t-thank you.” she told him, slowly taking the water bottle from him.
“Yeah...no problem.” He sat quietly watching the girl for a bit, not knowing what to say or whether it was okay to leave her by herself or not. “Are you....feeling better?”
“please, please don’t touch me — i cannot stand to be touched when i’m having an attack. just let me BREATHE.”
“Alright, sorry.” Bradley said quietly as he leaned back to give the girl some space. “Do you need some water?” He asked, slowly handing her an unopened water bottle.
“ that’s a good idea, i should probably start doing that. and, i was actually think about going to get some hot chocolate. want to come with me ?”
“What kid doesn’t want hot chocolate? I’ll go with you. You still need gloves I might have a extra extra pair.” Bradley laughed.
“ i feel like my fingers are going to FALL OFF. i went to central park for a few hours and forgot gloves. defiantly would not recommend. “
“That really sucks, I always keep an extra pair in my backpack just in case something like that happens. Hot chocolate might help warm you up.”
“consider yourself lucky i’m trying.” she smirked. it wasn’t like she wanted to dislike her new family, but for some reason, she couldn’t stop herself from being rude. “which they do and let’s try to keep it that way. we don’t need any dramatics.”
“This conversation was doomed from the start, if the only time we have to converse is during family dinners then this whole family thing will be fine.”
“this is me trying, ASSHOLE. get used to it.” she clenched her fists, staring at her stepbrother. “of course i want to see my dad happy, and he is. you gonna go crying to them that we aren’t getting along or something? because i’m pretty sure they think this whole family this is working out great.”
“You have an odd way of trying,” Bradley mumbled as he pulled at a hangnail. His head snapped up at her question. “No, I’m not going to go crying to them! If they think we’re getting along then fine.”
.
Blinking her eyes as she walked down the street, Nadine noticed a young boy just sitting on the glass. He was so close to the edge of the road, it practically made her heart speed up so, of course the mom in her headed over. “Uh, no. You’re just like, super close to the road. Don’t wanna like.. get hit or something id you aren’t paying attention.”
Bradley went from looking up at the woman to looking at the road behind him “Oh, thanks, ma’am I didn’t notice how close it was.” He got up from his spot looking around for somewhere else to sit, somewhere not as close to the road.
“quit your whining.” she rolled her eyes, stepping over a few steps to get out of his way. “the sun is barely giving off heat in this shitty state, why are you so keen on being in it?” she asked looking down at the dark haired boy. “it can’t actually be making you warm.”
Bradley rolled his eyes “And so what if it is? At least now you won’t be blocking it.”
she’d been riding her bike - courtesy of meredith, of course - when she stopped the kid. with a skidding stop, bella raised an eyebrow at his solemn demeanor and question. “you just looked like someone stole your lollipop or kicked ya’ puppy.”
Bradley stopped picking the grass and stood up dusting grass off his pants. “Nope. Nothing like that happened, guess I’m just in my prime angsty years.” Bradley laughed a little at his own joke.
kori looked down at him, a puzzle look on her face. “when did you get there?” she asked, her eyebrow raised slightly.
Bradley looked up at her with a confused look “What are you talking about I’ve been here the whole time?”
nala strolled through central park, one of her favorite spots — with her notebook in hand, writing one of her numerous short story’s to add to her collection. upon hearing a voice, she turned around a little bit surprised that she’d been blocking someone. “hm? oh i’m sorry!” nala exclaimed, stepping out of his view quickly. “i didn’t see you there.”
“Its alright, mind just stepping to the side a bit? The sun was keeping me warm.”
Bradley sighed as he sat outside picking the grass from around his feet. Between school as his new hectic home life he felt like he could really use a break. He stopped picking the grass and looked up when he noticed a figure was blocking the sun from hitting him. “Um, can I help you?”
“well i said it’s nothing, so it’s nothing. you got it?” she said, “just because our dad’s got married doesn’t mean we’re suddenly going to be this big, happy family. that’s not how it works.” she scoffed, she didn’t need any new siblings. she liked the ones she had. “this is as nice as i get. get used to it.”
“It may not be how it works but you could at least, hm I don’t know- try? I don’t know about you but I know I want to see my dad happy, and us fighting isn’t gunna make that happen.” Bradley rolled his eyes. He had been trying his best to get along with his new siblings but his patience was close to none.
