I spent the first year of the Orange Shitgibbon's fascist regime at marches, writing letters and postcards, calling my reps, and posting on BlueSky calling out the Rethuglicans' fascism. I need a break before I burn right out. I'm still doing those things, but at a slower pace. I'm using the rest of my time to recharge and figure out what to do with my time without a job.
Now that I'm retired, officially, I have time to pursue and finish a lot of projects I had to drop because of work, my roommate situation, and other other shit life throws at us. So I'm remaking my leetle apartment from what I call Industrial Bordello style to more Industrial Atelier. This means finally organizing all my art supplies--and in some cases rediscovering them ("I thought I had one of those!") and replacing others. I'm shifting gears a little from making books, because it's harder to do with my arthritic, numb fingers, into gel printing and collage. So we'll see where that goes.
One of my fan friends, @elrhiarhodan, is kinda doing the same, and unloaded generously gave me a bunch of her old supplies and tools, including a Cuttlebug, and an old Cricut Expression that I'm determined to get up and running (if anybody's got any tips about that, please share!). I spent a couple of days at her beauitful little house, shopping her basement, and she graciously drove out here with a carload of stuff that was too big to carry, including some great organizers of various kinds.
But I also replenished and replaced some other supplies on my own. There's a popular saying among crafters that acquiring art supplies is its own hobby and I'm here to confirm that. That includes the organizing furniture, like the 6 drawer cabinet from Bisley that's now full of reams of various kinds of paper. I've been at this remodeling for about two weeks now, and that includes culling the wall of bookshelves to make room for both new books and some supply organizers. I've still got a bookcase and a half to go through. I've got a lot of books to donate or recycle. Hit me up if you're interested in any of them. They're yours for the cost of postage. So the attached video is the main part of me new little atelier, my first floor garrett, if you will, with its IKEA kitchen island, and a pegboard room divider to hide the in-process mess and hold tools. (I just sent away for some room divider supports with casters because it's pretty unwieldy as is.)
I was going to Instagram some of my art process photos, but I am now persona non grata to Meta for having called Zuck out for being the piece of shit he is and permanently barred from their platforms. So I'll do that here.
