rereading the early Noragami chapters to try and pinpoint the moment when Yato leaves to find and bury Yukine's body.

Current theory is when he introduces him and Hiyori to Kofuku, and then just peaces out of there with no explanation.

Honestly, looking at the spoilers from the newest noragami chapter, i feel like both Yato and Hiyori are gonna be fine in the end? Father and Hiyori were dead, which were the only people alive still knowing of Yato, which is why he starting getting disappearing while resuscitating Hiyori, and now that Hiyori woke up in the Hospital, there is still the possibility for a happy ending with everyone alive.

Yeah, there is absolutely a way to make it a scare and nothing more! Wouldn't be the first time

...so Yato's tear falls on her face just as he disappears... and then she wakes up with a tear falling from her eye...

Thinking about Yato giving Yukine entirely too much freedom at the very beginning, because freedom is what he wanted for himself and he assumed Yukine would want the same thing, without realizing that Yukine grew up with too much freedom and what he really needed was someone to explicitly care about him.
