start of something new // a&f
This women seemed very shy and timid to Alex had to remind himself not to be so himself. He had to tone it down. Since they were going to be on a small vessel for Poseidon knows how long, he wanted her to be comfortable. They werenât even on the boat yet and she was stumbling and tripping over her feet. For a moment he thought maybe she was actually a mermaid too, but that was silly. He helped her keep straight.
âYou donât have to say sorry! You didnât do anything wrong.â He smiled softly at her, trying to keep his voice soft and quiet enough to not startle her. It was like his older sister would take her to watch the school of fish in the coral reefs. He had to be quiet so they didnât rush off.
When she mentioned getting to know each other, his eyes lit up. âThat sounds fun.â He said, âIâm Alex! I know I said that earlier but Iâm not sure if you remember.â
She liked when his voice went soft, it felt a lot easier to be around him then. Petunia smiled a little, and nodded. Alright, she hadnât done anything wrong--it was just that she was so used to apologizing, so used to being locked away that she didnât know what was okay, she only had a sliver of confidence--and that was only because she was pretending to be someone else.
Petunia nodded once more, âI know,â she told Alex, smiling at the name. âYouâre Alex,â she said, affirming that sheâd understood before. âIâm Fo--Iâm Petunia.â She amended, tucking the mousy hair behind her ear and looking down in embarrassment. âSilly name,â Petunia said softly, shrugging as she twirled a lock of her hair around her finger.
