Are there ANY Black Library novels where Xenos defeat, actually defeat (not run away succesfully, not work together against a greater evil, not negotiate a ceasefire) but actually beat Space Marines?Â
Also only Loyalist Space Marines because despite Chaos’s main temptation being power it takes about ten Chaos Space Marines to even match a single Loyalist Marine in fluff.
So are there any? I want to make a list of these books just so I can show exactly how rare it is.Â
Yo I relate so hard with you on all of this… My dad first introduced me to warhammer 40k when I was a kid and I loved it, the first book I ever read was the Ragnar Blackmane stories and I ate that stuff up. I read tons and tons of space marine books and what not (since my dad had a huge collection that was pretty much made up of just that) but then one day I read the dawn of war omnibus and holy shit was it awful, but that was the first time I’d ever read about the Eldar/Aeldari.
I just remember feeling so bad for them and how they were basically just abused throughout the whole book. Anyway cause of that book I went out and got Path of the Warrior (and then later the rest of the series) and for the first time I really saw them as more than bullet bags to get beaten up by space marines, even though they technically still lose in the book. .-. Whatever my point is that I was just fed up with the space marine circle jerk, and would pretty much only read stories about/with Xenos in it, even though they basically always fail.
I’m gradually getting more and more disappointed as GW has so many opportunities to not throw their non-human factions under the bus, and ruin it every single time.
Sorry that was super long, I just always felt like I was the only one bothered by this.
Anyway as someone else already mentioned it’s so hard for me to come up with some genuine wins from the top of my head, that’s how rare they are.
If it makes you feel any better though, there is a bad ass Aeldari ranger in Corsair: The Face of the Void audio book! He’s treated like an actual part of the team (at least by the main girl, and I high-key ship them btw) and without spoiling too much he takes on a chaos marine, and other stuff like the bad ass that he is. The actual story itself is really good I thought, so definitely look into it if you think you’d like it. :)

Hey, thanks for the message, and trust me I know exactly how you feel. My disillusionment and disappointment has been going on for a LONG time now.
Thanks for the info too, I always have to debate with myself to risk getting a story where I know there is some Xenos involvement, but not the full extent, because of things like the Pact where I make a decision to buy and get burned for it, so a recommendation like this is really appreciated, and I’ll definitely give Face of the Voice a try then. :)
Yeah same, I always prepare myself for disappointment when picking up a new story, but I was pleasantly surprised haha
