Goodbye Tumblr

Often times in life we take measures in order to make a positive difference. Nobody understands this better than the thousands of people who follow me on tumblr. Be it through a movement, by lending a hand to someone in need, or by simply expressing our thoughts and views online. As bloggers, many of us feel that our movements, our push for change, and the way we go about doing things will have a huge impact. Maybe so, perhaps every step along the way makes a difference, but what is the ultimate goal? Are we so naive to think we can change this world? A world filled with conflicting ideologies fighting for supremacy! In the face of all this, of course we can make positive differences! But to concern ourselves with it, well, it is simply not something that I can continue to do in the years to come. I joined Tumblr several years ago with so much on my mind, impacted by all the unnecessary hatred, violence and anger around the world. Tumblr was a place for me to let out my thoughts. I saw a world that was a mess, and I needed an outlet to share my views, express my opinion, and to have intellectual discussions. Many years later, after so much hate mail, and much more love, having met so many people on tumblr, several of them in person, right here in Toronto, or during my travels around the world, I am departing from blogging, feeling more educated, more aware, happier, a more confirmed atheist, and in a very tranquil way, indifferent and unconcerned about what goes on around the world, what anyone thinks, or how much hate anyone has for me or for anyone else.

In my eyes, we are all equal, we are no higher or lower than each other. Those views have not changed, and I stand by what I have said many times, that in every war, every debate on ideology, and in every political conflict, there is more than one narrative. No matter how right or wrong, regardless of who you are, depending on your life circumstances and experiences, you may very well be staunchly sticking to another narrative that you currently vehemently fight against. But this is tumblr, it is a place where people lose their minds and think they are fighting a good cause by attacking people they know nothing about. Those who are defending a religion I strongly despise and send me the most embarassing cliched so called ‘arguments’ have made me become a happier and more confirmed atheist. Those who sheepishly have been brainwashed to fight for their “independence”. They have fallen for the pathetic narratives that romantacize wars by showing you a few pictures of women holding weapons as if there are no female soldiers on the other side, or they’ll show you children holding up signs that favour the narrative you’ve been told to support. In reality it is nothing but a trick to destroy them and their nations by encouraging them to “fight” and to rip countries apart. This whole notion of fighting for one’s independence because they happen to be of a different race, ethnic group, or religion is nothing but a farce that benefits war profiteers. It is one of the many narratives created to further destroy different countries. The brainwashed fools who buy into the crap have made me become indifferent towards political conflicts. They, without realizing how much propaganda has been pumped into their brains, have made me realize, there is nothing we can do to unite the people of a single nation or country, let alone the people of different nations and countries. They have actually influenced me in a positive way, to not give a fuck, and to follow politics as a form of entertainment in a tranquil and relaxed way. 

Next year, I will be entering a very important stage in my life and every step towards that memorable evening means something. Today, as I depart tumblr, happily indifferent towards other people’s opinions, I am much more relaxed, more calm, as each day passes and I give less and less fucks about matters that don’t impact my life, though I stand by what I believe and hence the reason I don’t intend on deleting the numerous posts that I have made throughout the years. Above all else, after all these years, as I depart from tumblr, I can happily say that I will have taken away many valuable lessons and been influenced very positively by all this. To know that I was also able to have a positive impact on others, meet so many amazing people, and influence others to think freely for themselves, means so much to me. Thank you everyone. May you all have a similar peaceful, serene, and educational experience! Stay in touch!

There was a time in my life when I wondered why there were knowledgeable and educated people who seemed to be indifferent when it came to politics and religion. They didn’t care at all. It meant nothing to them. I couldn’t understand it. I realize now that with a good amount of knowledge one becomes more interested in the topics, but as you obtain more knowledge, sooner or later, you realize there is really no point in giving a fuck! It just becomes another form of entertainment for some or leads to apathy for others.

Some apologists for Islam, especially the proponents of the hijab who want to present themselves as liberal and progressive, are some of the biggest scum on earth. Because they purposely ignore the suffering of millions of people to push forward their stupid so called ‘arguments’. Here is a perfect example a non-Iranian person who knows nothing about Iran. He is either clueless or completely aware and just acting like an idiot, wanting to pretend like Iranian women wear the hijab because they want to.

He, and many like him, are not only ignoring the fact that in Iran the law requires women to war the hjiab, and that even non-Muslims are forced to wear it in public, but these proponents of the hijab don’t even know what people are fighting for when they oppose the compulsory head covering. 

Yes, there are women in the EU and North America who wear the hijab, lucky for them they have the choice. In Iran women don’t have a choice! Most Iranian women hate wearing the hijab, that’s why if you ever go to Iranian neighbourhoods in North America, Iranian concerts, parties, etc. you will have to search extensively to find one woman wearing that thing! Because when given the choice the overwhelming majority discard it. In Iran, however, the pathetic Islamic government is forcing them to wear it.

There are literally massive moments by Iranian men and women to fight against this oppressive disgusting law forcing an outdated misogynistic belief on millions of women who not only don’t want to wear it, but they despise it. That is not freedom! This is barbarism! This discrimination, it’s disgusting and will only make more and more Iranian people hate the hijab and Islam, as it has been doing for the past 3 decades. So if you know nothing about Iran and Iranian people, then take your pathetic nonsense elsewhere, your pro-hijab comments in the face of those Iranians fighting against it in Iran, is making you look stupid.

One of the most difficult tasks in this world is knowing how much there is wrong with Islam and still feeling the need to defend it. This is very different from the clueless apologists who hardly know anything about Islam and constantly repeat a few embarrassingly cliched false ‘arguments’, it is also different from the religious apologists who do know about Islam and yet believe these outdated commandments and instructions are somehow acceptable, it is also different from the non-Muslim delusional apologists who want to equate all religions to be the same. I am talking about open minded, intelligent Muslims who have studied Islam, who genuinely understand how much there is wrong with it, yet for one reason or another feel the need to defend it. I cannot think of a more difficult task.

The Islamic tactic of hiding what is in the Quran and the Hadith, or to purposely pretend like under some context the most extreme actions and commandments of Muhammad were somehow acceptable, is nothing but a cry of desperation in this day and age. Even as early as 20 years ago when people did not have easy access to the internet it would have been very easy to fool non-Muslims, and thus such statements as Tahira’s comment below would have worked well when presenting the most cliched embarrassment of an ‘argument’, “this has nothing to do with Islam”.

What does this really even mean? This person is trying to respond to the concept of sex slavery in Islam by denying that this has anything to do with Islam. Of course it is a very embarrassing subject for Muslims, and had this been the year 1998 they could have easily lied and told people that this has nothing to do with Islam. But today, thanks to Muslims shoving the Quran in our face, and every Islamic website providing access to the Quran and the Hadith, it is not so easy to hide what the sctripture says. In fact, it only ends up making Muslims look worse. The Quran and the Hadiths are explicit in saying that it is okay to keep sex slaves during war. Muhammad himself did this, and it recorded in Islamic scripture. Thanks for telling me that you didn’t even bother to read my response but instead chose to keeping telling yourself lies. It’s nothing new. It’s a bias that most Muslims have. They read what they want, avoid reading what contradicts what they have been told, and even further try to shut it down by saying, ‘don’t disrespect my amazing religion’, it’s so peaceful, most feminist and incredibly progressive religion.

That’s lovely that you think it’s fine that I am an ex-Muslim. The Sunnah certainly does not, and calls for the death of apostates. I have peace in my heart, I am not sure why I need to lie to myself about what Islam teaches in order to have the kind of ‘peace’ you envision. Instead of jumping to conclusions and say that I don't like to give criticism ask me first. I do that too but only to people who ask me so. I'm not responsible for another humans perspective on Islam. People get the wrong idea of Islam that's just how it is. Do not tell me that "Muslims like me" haven't tried to change the image. Well I did not criticize you as a person. You are the one who came here and told me to stop blogging. I did not even say anything until you jumped in here and started making things ups. I criticized the religion of Islam, and that criticism is based of what is in the Quran and the Sunnah, the teachings of Muslim scholars, and the actions of Muslim people who take these passages and commandments and enact them in life. I am not sure what you will be criticizing, it’s not as if there is an “atheistic book” that teaches certain things. No, there is no “atheist” religion that say you should beat your wife if she’s disobedient, or that you can takes sex slaves in war. We do not try to emulate the actions of illiterate barbarians who lived in a completely different time period. And I am not sure how you intend to change the image of Islam by saying the religion is ‘beatuiful” when in reality such remarks as “Islam is great”, “the Quran is perfect”, and the likes are only making Muslims look more and more deceitful because unlike the 1990s, in this day and age anyone can have access to read the Quran and the Sunnah for themselves easily and for free from any Islamic website.

If I did not know any better, I would say that you are simply a troll making fun of Muslims. However, having lived in different Muslim countries, interacted with many different Muslims in non-Muslim countries, and having heard the most false apologetic arguments, I know full well that you really mean it when you say your ‘religion’ is peaceful.

1) Yes, of course I have a problem with Islam. That is not out of hate, it’s out of knowledge and honesty. I tried for years to be more understanding of Islam. Even as an atheist, I took measures to find some beauty in all religions. Islam was the one I really could find nothing positive about. Even the few good lines such as giving to the needy and being kind to your parents are in no way unique to Islam. They are just universally accepted values that existed for thousands of years prior to Islam. In fact this journey to find good in Islam led me to despise it even more, because the more I learned and the more I listened to recommended Muslim scholars the more gut wrenching realities hit me in the face. 

2) I am not sure where you get the idea that your religion is ‘beautiful’ and ‘peaceful’. However, if you have never studied the Quran and the Sunnah, it would not surprise me. There is plenty you could say about Islam, such as how it inspires people to help the needy, like some of my own relatives, or how it creates a peace of mind for people who are otherwise hopeless, but to call it a “beautiful nonviolent and peaceful religion” will only make you look deceitful in the eyes of non-Muslims. Especially now when we are seeing more and more how the tactics used by ISIS are exactly the sametactics Muhammad used after he migrated to Medina. It is all in the Quranand the Hadith, from fighting those who do not accept Islam & fight untilthey give Jizya (tax paid by non-Muslims) (The Quran 9:29) which ISIS hasimposed, to killing non-believers in war (The Quran 2:191, 9:123, and 9:5), totaking slaves, and as well as captives as sex slaves in war. The Quran, usingthe Arabic term “abd” for slave, used in conjunction with the more common termsin the “ma malakat aymanukum”, which means that that which your right handspossesses highly promotes what ISIS is doing. Quran 24:32 states, “And marrythe unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and femaleslaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, andAllah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” There is more, such as all thebeheadings, it is precisely from the Quran. Quran 47:4 states, “So when youmeet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when youhave inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either[confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens.That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeanceupon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you bymeans of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah - never will Hewaste their deeds.” ISIS is Islamic and they are Muslims in the most literalform!

3) I am not sure if these are the commandments that lead you say Islam is ‘peaceful’ or perhaps the commandment to beat your wife? (Quran 4:34)

4) Nobody caused me any pain, although Muslims, including yourself, do cause a lot of pain and misery for others with your constant lies and deceitful tactics to force people to believe Islam is something that it really isn’t. But thank you for repeating the same cliched statement which Muslims repeat in order to make themselves feel better. It is said in order to insinuate that if anyone criticizes Islam then they are just ignorant and someone must have done something to harm them. It’s all part of the Muslim superiority complex. 5) You can keep praying to “Allah” all you want, pray that a person who is living a happy and wonderful life like myself will somehow be manipulated to start believing in fairytales? Is that what you want? Well, good thing Allah does not exist, but if he did I am sure this prayer of yours would be of great importance considering all the prayers for the millions of children who were killed in horrendous and violent natural disasters meant nothing to your all powerful Allah.

The points that you are making would make a lot of sense if the Quran and the Sunnah of Muhammad, which make up what consists of the religion of Islam, did not severely contradict what you are saying. Here is the problem, unlike yourself I am very open to criticism. If you find something that I say to be false or if you can criticize my views and back it up with facts, then I welcome a discussion. But if I state something that is a direct commandment from the prophet of Islam, and it is an action carried out by other Muslims who justify it based on scripture, then you saying that, “this is not real Islam” and “do not disrespect Islam” will only make you look foolish and ignorant. All I can say is, Muslims like yourself who are hated and marked for death by Islamist extremists are not doing anything to change the image of Islam. By brushing aside the endless horrendous passages in the Quran which are taken literally by millions and by constantly saying that Islam is great and should be respected when non-Muslims in the 21st century have easy access to the internet and can go on any Islamic website to read the Quran and the Sunnah to realize how outdated and dangerous Islam is, all you are doing is making Muslims look deceitful.

How is this book so obsessed with apostates and non-believers, and goes so far as demonizing them in every way it can, if it is meant to be a ‘tolerant’ ‘peaceful’ religion. Like seriously eh? An Imam in the U.K is being criticized for stating that sex slavery is permitted in Islam. Ali Hammuda who is an Imam at a mosque where three ISIS fighters worshipped tells men that it is perfectly fine to have sex with slaves. I am not sure why this is considered ‘controversial’ when he is simply saying what the Quran and the Sunnah state. If you consider what he claims to be controversial, then you must be intellectually honest and consider the entire religion of Islam being openly practiced in non-Muslim countries to be controversial. But of course, they would not take it that far, and I am not even advocating that, but I can only ask people to be honest and not make themselves look like fools if they actually do disagree with what Ali Hammuda is saying.

The entire notion of having sexual relations with captives of war was something that Muhammad himself took part in. I am not saying this because I want to insult Muslims or their prophet, but this is a matter of fact. It has been recorded in the Quran and to a more elaborate extent in the Sunnah. If you say that you are for freedom of religion and you consider Islam to be a religion on an equal level as all the other religions, then how can you say that what this man is stating is controversial? He is simply reiterating what his religion states. If you are critical of this man’s position then you have no choice but to also be critical of Islam.

Question for Ex-Muslims

As an liberal-leaning secular humanist with no background in the Islamic religion, I am curious about some of the experiences of some former Muslims.  For any ex-Muslims on this site, I am curious, what made you leave the religion of Islam?

Was it your disagreements with religious scripture?

Was it because of theological reasons?

Was it anything to do with the behavior of your family or community towards you?

Was it the circumstances surrounding Islam today?

For myself as an ex-Muslim, I left Islam because religions to me are nothing but man-made stories created in specific times and geographical settings and relating solely to that time. But the departure is definitely a combination of all of the above, with the exception of family behaviour. My family most certainly did not do anything “harmful” in the name of Islam to me. In fact, the Muslims in my family are fully aware that I am an atheist, and many of my cousins who are atheist or agnostic. They accept it. Of course the scripture plays a role. The scripture (Quran and the Hadith) has played a role in making many non-Muslims become strongly anti-Islam. Scriptures are all outdated, it doesn’t matter what religion you’re looking at. There are only a few religions in the world, such as Baha’i faith, where I’ve seen a very progressive approach encouraging adaptability and growth with time.

HELP the Arab trans community

Hello,

My name is Yousef and I’m a transgender male from the Middle East. I decided to make a post on here since there are a lot of active people from the LGBT community that are willing to help those in need.

In the Middle East we suffer a lot from society and even “coming out” could get you in jail. There is a law in my country (Kuwait) where you can get thrown in jail for simply breaking gender norms (Dressing up like the other gender).

We are a group of trans activits that are trying to spread the word on twitter since it is very popular in the Middle East and it proved to change things in other issues. We’ve managed to get the attention of the “Daily Dot” when we translated very violent tweets on an arab trans hashtag to show how much we are in danger in this part of the world

The LGBT community in much of the Muslim world does not just suffer from discrimination, but they fear for their lives. While people here in the West would like to assume that those on the right side of the political spectrum are anti-LGBT, and sure in some cases that is very much true, it is in no way comparable to what the LGBT community suffers from in the Muslim world. In fact, most conservatives in Canada are actually very strongly in support of LGBT rights. Even in the United States there is a huge trend and shift in attitudes amongst Republicans. The hateful rhetoric that still remains and discriminates against the LGBT community in North America is shameful and sad dying cry of pathetic ignorance, and it is very minuscule in comparison to what they suffer from in the Muslims world. It is now time, more than ever, for all the LGBT rights activists to start focusing some of their attention to where the community suffers the most!

Nobody makes Muslims look more deceitful and foolish than Muslims themselves

Although there are plenty of non-Muslim apologists for Islam who also make ridiculously false statements and try shift opinions with half-truths, nobody makes Muslims look more deceitful than the so called ‘moderate’ Muslims themselves. This is very ironic actually because their intention is to improve the image of Islam and the Muslim world, not tarnish it even further. Here we have a perfect example. Usshy Rahman starts of with the most cliched embarrassing statement, the “1.6 billion Muslims”. Not even the most anti-Muslim person on earth would every say all Muslims are terrorists, the only ones who say this are Muslims themselves, by making comments to refute a statement that nobody has ever made. Ironic how at different times millions upon millions of that 1.6 billion figure would be considered, ‘not real Muslims’. Besides, just because you are not willing to blow yourself up or shoot a bunch of innocent people, we need to applaud you and forget about all the other horrendous crimes and atrocities which are not related to terrorism but are still committed in the name of Islam, using Islamic scripture?

Then of course, there is always the conspiracy about Jewish people. If any Muslim ever does something that another Muslims disagrees with, they will free themselves and the religion of any guilt by saying that person is Jewish or is somehow controlled by the Jews. She goes on to say that Islam is perfect, and that right there is the single most harmful statement for the religion and for Muslims themselves. The world used to buy into that statement 20-25 years ago when access to the Quran and the Hadith was virtually impossible for most of the world’s population. But in today’s world when anyone, even in the tiniest villages out there, can go to any Islamic website and obtain a free copy of the Quran and the Sunnah online, making statements such as “Islam is perfect” has an incredibly counter-productive impact for Muslims. It makes them look very dishonest, their statements appear insincere, and their community is made to look like nothing but liars!

Putin’s legacy in Chechnya was killing off hundreds of these Islamist rats, many who travelled all the way from Saudi Arabia with tons of cash devoted to their Jihadist activities. They are doing the same now in Syria and Iraq, although they’ve been losing heavily since Russia got involved. If there is anyone in this world today who knows how demolish these Islamist cockroaches, it’s Putin. He’s the only that can finish the job in Syria! These pathetic Wahhabi Islamists devote their lives to this cause, they poison every society and every piece of land they touch. Most world leaders brush it aside, or they actually fund them and refer to them as “moderate” rebels! Say what you want about Putin, but when it comes to dealing with the Islamist poison, this man does not fuck around!
