My final major project is a premium ps4 package with the new xperia z2 smartphone included. I have focused in advertising and packaging. Looking at packages in the past made me come to this stage where I can do something different and unique. The thing that really helped me was a package doesn't have to be a certain shape, it can be any style and shape as long as it’s constructed evenly and strongly which got me to this stage.
My fmp plan
PlayStation 4 limited edition package with smartphone
Packaging will be in red and black instead of blue
The smartphone will be a PlayStation 4 edition with the same colour scheme black and red
The package will be a unique shape for a console package
The package will also be small as possible depending on the internal of the package
There will be an advertising campaign, banners, billboards etc…
There will also be business card, letter head, and compliment slip to promote the product even further and maybe also brand guidelines if possible
The only thing that will be changed with the product will be the colour, ram and hard drive space
May also change the font if necessary and will be finalised once the questionnaire is done

http://www.arabicgamers.com/news/2309/xbox-one-and-ps4-box-designs-head-to-head
the ps4 hasn’t been advertised on billboard much after the release due to them focusing more on shipping the console as 5 million consoles already been sold and instead advertising on TV and all over the internet but there a few images how the billboard advertisement looked like before the console was released.
Looking at different console packages I felt that it was done cheaply which is perhaps a good thing as when people buy the product they would just buy it for the console only, leaving the package out or may be throwing it away but the package would also be important to grab people’s attention when it’s on advertisement or maybe on the shelf, so here’s an few pictures of console packages and the main thing which is common, is that they’re all in a box format.
Looking at they’re in box format, I’ve decided to go for something different but first it was going to be the same shape as the ps4 but it was difficult to put together and the package wouldn’t be strong enough so I then decided to go for a octagon shape because it would feel and look different, also ps4 package was criticize buy the makers of the Xbox one package saying it’s too dull and doesn’t have that attention to it so I thought this would be a good opportunity to do something like this and also changing the colour to black and red to beef the package up, just like there ps3 launch package. I’ve created the template for the octagon package and I think it would work quite well considering that it’s a unique shape for a console package.
As I’m doing the ps4 package, I’m also adding something extra, and the extra thing would be the Sony xperia z2 smartphone because its PlayStation certified also you can control your ps4 from the smartphone which I think it’s awesome and that will also boost the smartphone sales. Here’s a list of mobile packages:
Looking at the mobile packages, they’re very small so there should be enough room to place the smartphone in the package, also same again, all the packages are in rectangular/squares shape, so I think this is the opportunity for me to do something like this, also in the package you get the normal stuff like, phone, earphones, plug, charging cable and warranty/instruction papers.
Possible materials which could be used in a package would be cardboard – thick or thin, plastic, foam for the inner support, paper or card which could be a higher gsm, thin or slightly thick pieces of wood for construction/ chassis and vinyl just in case if you want to wrap the product instead of printing.
Keeping the package stable and strong, the main thing I would use is thick cardboard and upholstery / packaging foam for inside the package so if you do accidently drop it, there will be plenty of support to keep the product safe without damaging it, then after that the package is constructed I would intend in wrapping it afterwards so it leaves a nice glossy finish which keeps it waterproof and maybe look premium.
If I was to get any materials, the first place I would look is eBay and the cost for the foam for inside the package is estimated £5.00 to £20.00 depending on the supplier, size, shape and quantity but I got this rough estimate from eBay as it’s the easiest and cheapest place to get material like this. The cost for the cardboard is as little as £3.00 minimum but could go up in price to £30.00 depending on the thickness, size and quantity and same again I got this estimate of eBay, but as I already have cardboard sheets at home, it would be easy for me not to worry about the cost of the cardboard.
When completing constructing the package I would wrap it using vinyl so it keeps it waterproof and look premium but wrapping it vinyl, there can be a few problems which would be trying to stick it without leaving any bubbles, the cost of printing which would roughly be about £10.00 to £20.00 for the size I’m thinking of doing and the final thing is making sure the size you’re going to print it actually fits on the packages making sure it’s not a completely different shape, not too small or not too big and looks flushed.
Laying out the inside of the package can be a tricky part as u have to see if the dimensions for the product can fit inside the package, also adding the foam support would mean keeping the foam as the same shape as the product so it can fit and slot in place without any hassle. The way I’m thinking is place the foam at the bottom of the package so there’s support there, then adding it on the sides which would support the products without getting damaged and then cutting the foam out so it fits in place of the product which should stop it from moving and also from getting damaged.
I’m going to get the printing done at my cousins work place as he is a qualified graphic designer and also has the Roland printer and probably tell him to wrap it as well and then the rest of the work like constructing the package and adding support and keeping regular checks while making the package will be done at home as I have most of the accessories to construct a package.
When doing the package and the billboard advertisement, I would be working on magazine ad, email flyer and web banners, I would probably do vehicle wrap if I feel it needs more work into it, also I’ll have to check if it needs a 30 second TV ad but buy the looks of it, I think Sony has already got that covered. I would probably add stationary items to build the PlayStation franchise a bit more and the final thing would be creating the brand guidelines version2.0 for the limited edition.
If I think that there needs more work into it I would also be probably creating t-shirts, mugs and other equipment which could hyped the limited edition.
This is a rough idea of whats my posters about and what it might look like
Everything that relates to cultural sustainability
Instructions on what to do on android tablets when rotating the screen
my bar code for stationary items
i was thinking of doing a flash website rather than a standard plain one, the reason is because it would look exciting and everything nowadays is used with flash.
range of dip logos which i have created using a variety of colors but having trouble with the text styles with a suitable color.
any ideas which color would go with the text styles?
maybe iPad as well
I quite like this magazine cover because its simple and readable but also i like the way the orange stands out with a grey background which makes it look eye catching.
there are a few magazine covers which i like and there is some which look boring with dull colors
magazine covers which i think they look exciting and catch your attention
