something i've noticed. people seem to think the most nature-y nature is forests. so forests are always prioritized for conservation, and planting trees is synonymous with ecological activism. my state was largely prairies and wetlands before colonization. those ecosystems are important too. trees aren't the end-all be-all of environmentalism. plant native grasses. protect your wetlands.
deserts also!!! it sucks so bad that people think of desert as 'wasteland' just because it's not suited for western european style ag development, they're beautiful and delicate and valuable ecosystems and, i think it's good to point out that humans have been living willingly in them for thousands of years
Feel the wind on your face, the water on your skin? You’re far enough away to be safe but close enough to feel it. Your nose, fingers and toes are numb from the cold but you stay outside anyway. It’s an amazing feeling. It makes you feel alive. You are powerless to the gods above you but you’re with them all the same. You are here on this earth and there are things way bigger than you, things you cannot control and you aren’t in control and it’s okay, there’s no worries. You can let go of it all and be yourself. Then the wind picks up, it gets colder and you’re just about blown off your feet. The rain stabs at you like little arrows and you think, you think, I just want to let it take me all the way but your parents are telling you to run, run always, come back to civilization come to where its nice and warm and you follow. But you look back thinking it would’ve been alright to fall.

Heavily inspired by @sadfishkid, also @coldcigarettes and some other random posts on tattoos that are drifting somewhere within the ocean of internet x)
So I used to have a Russian friend who had a pretty thick accent and like a lot of Russians tended to eschew articles. She would say things like “Get in car.” And stuff.
Well one day this asshole who had been kind of tagging along with us asks her why she talks like that because it makes her sound dumb and I still remember her response word for word.
“Me? Dumb? Maybe in America you have to say get in THE car because you are so stupid that people might just get in random car, but in Russia we don’t need to say that. We just fucking know because we are not stupid.”
One time I was proof reading a paper for a Russian student. As I was correcting her paper with her, the many mistakes in her grammar started weighing on her. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, almost sobbing,
“In Russian I am so intelligent and clear. In English I am like [an] idiot”
Respect to anyone trying to master a foreign language. I get so sad thinking about that student.
Full offense but people who make fun of someone else’s accent or belittle their limited vocabulary when they’re speaking a language not native to them are fucking disgusting and are just begging to be punched.
They’re speaking your language because you don’t know theirs. That’s not something they should be made fun of, it’s something that should be commended because learning a language is hard fucking work.
I hate people who do this so much.
every gay girl i’ve spoken to agrees that one of the most humiliating and demoralizing things is having a straight girl thinking you’re coming on to them simply bc you like girls and it….really fucks with our relationships both platonic and romantic bc while other girls get to sit on each others laps and sleep in the same beds and playfully grab each others asses we’re putting up so many walls just in case our straight friends think we’re after them.
and bc our conception of relationships with other girls in general is so fucked and suppressed we have no idea how to navigate our emotions when we’re actually attracted to another girl and want to pursue it
y’all reblogging this with “straight girls/gay guys experience this toooo”….nah, this isn’t about people thinking you want them, its a uniquely stunting experience to gay girls who are excluded from developing friendships and behaving around other girls in the ways we are all socialized to do so because we conceive ourselves/others conceive us as “predatory”
Types of Bad Thoughts (cognitive distortions)
Black or white:
Here people view situations as completely good or bad. There are no grey areas.
Example: Casey didn’t answer a question ❓ correctly in class. He automatically thought he is stupid.
Filtering:
Here individuals will ignore good things in order to focus on the bad. This thought process tends to focus on high expectations.
Example: Sarah gets all A’s on tests. One day she gets a B+ and although the teacher 👩🏫 says she’s the highest grade. She will think 🤔 she is a total failure.
Discounting:
When this happens. The person ignores or invalidates good things.
Example: Jason scores 3 points for his school’s team. Instead of acknowledging the hard work he put in. He believes it was simply good luck 🍀.
Catastophizing:
Here people blow things out of proportion in a negative way.
Example: Charles didn’t make it in his school’s soccer ⚽️ team. So he believes his life was over.
Judging:
In this thought distortion. People criticize themselves or others. Usually, using “should have” statements.
Example: Stephanie has low self-esteem. So, she believes. She should be smarter 📚, skinnier, funnier and prettier.
Mind Reading:
Here people make assumptions of what others are thinking about.
Example: Stacey is giving a presentation 📑 in front of her class and as the students are watching her. She believes the students in the back are thinking she is stupid.
Forecasting:
Here people predict bad things will happen.
Example: Carlos is taking a science 🧬 test and after turning it in. He believes he failed.
Feelings are facts:
Here people confuse their feelings with facts.
Example: Jason is always hanging out with friends 👫 on the weekends. But this weekend all of his friends were busy. He thought that all his friends hated him due to the loneliness he was feeling.
Self-Blame:
Here individuals hold themselves accountable for bad things that happen.
Example: Laura’s parents were fighting over economical 💰 reasons and even though it had nothing to do with her. She believes it was her fault.
Tip on how to improve your distorted thinking:
1. Ask yourself, “what happened?”
2. Recognize the negative thought.
3. Replace it with a more positive yet realistic one.
Example:
1. My boyfriend didn’t call 📱 me at lunch 🥙 today.
2. He must be cheating on me.
3. He has an important meeting 📃 at work. He is busy.
