“Right. And what do you plan on doing with that information? Did something happen in Mississippi?“ Looking around, Imani waved their waitress for for a refill as she listened to Iris story. She thought it was somewhat odd and knew Iris probably had everyone else telling her to be caution but Imani couldn’t bring herself to join that crowd. “Its a rational fear. You know that you should always trust your fears but never let them run you. I don’t know if the story about my mom is well known but her family was like that. Very old school with marriage contracts and ‘em treating their women like breeding stalk. She got out of it as soon as she could.“ Imani tried to reassure her without scaring her.
“It’s okay. We never really get to talk.“ She said waving her off. “Have you shared these thoughts with Paul? When Blaine and I first started going out I made it clear what I wanted and he did the same. Before we were married, we sat down and talked about it. We’re equals through and through. I think you would make a great co-leader by the way.”
“Nothing, I was just supposed to track and observe. Apparently they believe they’re connected to some kind of attack up here. I was told this was no longer my concern.” She shrugged, tapping her fingers across the top of her cup. “I can’t really get out of this though, can I? Not without ruining the plan everyone’s set up.” Her tone wasn’t sharp, but blunt.
“Kind of. He keeps saying things won’t be like this forever.” Iris shrugged. “I didn’t sign up to be a hunter. I like tracking and traveling and being free to go where I want. You can’t do that if you’re a head.”
