Gage | Iris
Gage continued to stare down at his jiggling knee until Iris wrote a reply. He looked at the words, but didnât say anything, just grimaced. When Irisâs hand made contact with his arm, he stiffened involuntarily.
When the bus stopped, Gage was right behind Iris, mentally yelling at himself for acting so frigid. Just try to get back to lighthearted conversation. He thought. Come on, man, put on that happy face. So, he smiled as he walked into the store with Iris.
When the clerk came, Gage stifled a laugh and glanced down at Iris, who had a mildly annoyed expression on his face. The boy went to write in his notebook, but Gage caught his wrist, figuring it would save them time if he spoke for them.
âWeâre just lookinâ for some flowers. Orchids, right?â He looked at Iris for confirmation.
[thanks.] After the annoying clerk left them alone, Iris ripped off another piece of paper. [This used to happen less before, I swear I don't sound like a girl, or.. I didn't.] Somehow it was infuriating to him, he was well aware of his appearance, and he didn't dislike it, but he really couldn't stand how often he'd get the question about his gender. [I should just walk around in my briefs next time.] He sighed.
At least no one judges me for the way I look and dress in Britin. he thought. Taking a peek at Gage, he let out a long breath. [Anyway, white and blue orchids, maybe purple? What would you pick?]

This is an appreciation post for how dramatic and terrified Oliver Pond is of Weeping Angels.
Four for you, Ollie.
You go, Ollie.
ooc: so like.. what's the story behind those things? Just a garden of scary angel statues or something??? ..???
Gage | Iris
Gage nodded at the first piece of paper, then read the second one, and laughed. âWell, weâre all a little strange, arenât we? Weâre all unique, with our nicks ân our knacks ân our cricks ân our cracks.â He gave a wry smile. âAttitude towards other people does matter, but as long as youâre friendly and polite, which you certainly seem, I think anyone can make friends.âÂ
His smile faded, however, as Iris handed him the next piece of paper. âWell, ah-â He cleared his throat. âIssa long storeh.â He flinched, his southern accent already starting to thicken from nerves, his knee jiggling uncontrollably. âAhâll tell ya âbout et some otha time.â He avoided Irisâs eyes.
Watching Gage's reaction, Iris bit his lower lip. [That's okay,] he quickly wrote, [We all came here to get over our past, right? I can relate.] Stroking Gage's arm gently in effort to reassure him, Iris pulled the best smile he could.
It was then when the bus came to a stop, the two rushed off the bus before making their way to a fancy flower shop.
"Welcome! What are we looking for today?" the clerk came up with a big smile, "Getting something for your girlfriend?"
Iris stared back at the clerk, then looked up at Gage with a slightly annoyed expression. Well, it isn't the first time it's happened. Shaking his head, Iris pulled out his notebook in a hurry, scribbling down a reply of some sort.Â
Gage | Iris
[yeah, long story.] he scribbled quickly, pulling down his scarf slightly and pointing at a pink scar running across his neck. He then flashed a sheepish grin as he realized his handwriting was rather messy. [Anyway, letâs be on our way, the bus stop is up ahead.]
As they sat next to each other on the bus, Iris couldnât help but to look over from time to time. He sincerely hoped Gage doesnât find it awkward to be with someone who canât speak; his experience so far in Britin has been somewhat dry, and he was hoping to find someone whoâd be more willing to communicate.
[How are you feeling about this school?] he wrote, holding his notebook up, [Youâre new too, right?]
Gageâs eyes widened as he saw the soft pink scar on Irisâs throat. He looked down at what the boy had written, not paying any mind to the handwriting, and nodded. âYes, letâs go.â
When they sat down, Gageâs fiddled with his fingers, and jiggled his knee. He made a mental note to stop fidgeting, as he noticed Iris glancing at him. He offered an easy smile, looking at the notebook which Iris held up once again.
âI like this school.â He grinned, perhaps a little too hard. âIt seems like a good place to have a fresh start, and, wellâŠâ He hesitated, âGoodness knows I need that.â He ruffled his hair. âYeah, Iâm new, only got here two days ago. But I didnât know you were new, when did ya get here?â
Iris rested his eyes on Gage for a while before lifting his pen again. [I suppose a fresh start is what we all need.] It was better than where he was, granted, he had hoped for a less strange bunch of people here.
[I got here about a week ago too, a lot of them seems...] he tilted his head, biting the tip of his pen. [... strange-mannered. Maybe I'm just picky.] frowning, he pulled a sour smile. [I guess if I were enthusiastic and cheerful, it would have been a different story.] but then of course, it wasn't really his personality, and Iris was never the type to pretend.
[...How'd you end up here?] he scribbled, hesitating for a moment before handing the piece of paper to Gage. [You don't have to talk about it unless you want to.]
Gage | Iris
He had a few things in mind to buy, a couple pots, some seeds, and a cute watering can, perhaps. He was lost in thought until a voice called out for him, his head snapped up, and his lips curled into a smile. Waving back, he took small, quick steps towards the boy. [Hey Gage, youâre early!] He quickly wrote onto a piece of notebook paper before handing it to Gage. His handwriting was neat, a bit small, but easy to read. Nervously looking up at the boy in front of him, Iris cleared his throat. [Iâve lost my own voice. Sorry for not telling you beforehand..] he tore off another piece of paper and held it in front of his face.
Gage was about to ease himself into a smile as Iris walked to him, but became puzzled as the boy handed him a piece of paper, and then another. Lost his own voice..? Gage was curious, but nodded understandingly.
âNo problem, Iris. Yeah, I know Iâm a little early, but I figure itâs better than beinâ a little late.â He grinned. âSo, shall we go to this flower shop?â He shuffled his feet out of fidgety habit, absentmindedly crunching a few leaves underfoot.Â

Gage | Iris
Gage quickly left his dorm, nimble legs picking their way easily down the staircase and into the chilly world of November. He shivered, zipping up his leather jacket. The Alabama native had three layers of clothing on; a blue plaid flannal, a black hoodie, and his dark brown leather jacket.
He looked forward to picking out orchids with Iris. He decided that to have the best time possible, heâd focus on the beauty of the flowers, and not the memories they gave him of his mother. He shook his head, scratching his fine, dark brown hair. Looking up, he saw Iris not too far off. âHey, Iris!â He called out, waving his hand in greeting.

Gage | Iris
Carefully tightening a red plaid scarf around his neck, Iris stared nervously into the mirrored image of himself. He asked Gage to accompany him on a shopping trip, but when time came, he began to chicken out. He no longer possess a voice to communicate like everyone else, and he still wasn't used to it even after two years. Carefully checking everything in his messenger bag, he clipped a navy fountain pen onto the side along with a mini notebook. Perhaps handwriting is the only thing that could speak for him outside of the internet now, he made a mental note to write beautifully - as much as his abilities allowed, anyway.    He made it to their meeting spot ten minutes early, while waiting, he doodled a page full of flowers in his notebook. Leaves were falling, and he began to regret not wearing an extra layer of jacket; sudden change of climate was not going easy on a boy who's lived near the beach all his life. Shuddering, Iris finally lifted his head, searching for his newfound friend.
Oh. Did somethinâ happen to your mother, Iris? Iâm sorry. But yeah, theyâre usually white or purple little things. I guess I like flowers, theyâre pretty to look at. I only know âbout em so much because I used to help my mama in the garden with them.
Oh, you know... I'm not sure what happened to her, I was adopted. Not a big deal though, all I know is that she left me with this name. I was planning on planting a few orchids, you think you want to come with me when I pick some out?

irisharper replied to your post: This place is hella boring.
got that right.
Youâre the flappy kid right?
sure, let's go with that.

I think your mother wouldâve, after all, she did name ya after one. Come to think of it, my mama grew lotsâa flowers, besides the irises. You ever heard of bluets? Theyâre pretty little things, but they grow like the plague, almost choked out the irises.
Thanks! ... I really hope she did, it's the only thing she's left for me. Bluets? Yeah! I think so, they're kind of purple-ish, right? Adorable little flowers, I've only seen them in a field though. My adopted mother loved flowers too, there were lots of weird ones though. I suppose you do too?
