The thing is, in order to have a healthy and robust fandom, a piece of media NEEDS to leave some questions unanswered. Some relations unshipped. Some plot holes unfilled. Some backstories unwritten. my friend's discord server has a "proof of touch grass" channel where they post pics of them doing regular activities outdoors/in public. i think many online spaces could benefit from such a thing
when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly
(also, she was never judgey - if my meal was a single potato chip she would simply say good job eating a potato chip today <3 )

went to a film festival to see a screening of several short films and one of them was about how even if you think your art is meaningless there may be a person out there whose life was forever changed by it even without your knowledge and it has resonated and inspired me so much it's insane how art is recursive and self fulfilling like this
got to meet the director and tell her how much the movie meant to me and she seemed very happy to hear it :) moral is if you enjoy something don't be afraid to reach out to express your love. passion resonates endlessly

not to be rude but "how other people conceptualize of/discuss/write fictional characters makes me feel like i don't deserve to exist" is a wild things to say, go to therapy.

If somebody puts a canonically gay character in a straight ship. everyone agrees that's fucked up.
But if someone puts a aro/ace/aroace character in what is basically an allo ship, apparently that needed to happen and it's "just a headcanon" or whatever bullshit.
If you're GONNA ship aro/ace/aroace characters, at least have the good grace to take into account the guilt they'll be feeling over not being able to reciprocate the other characters feelings when you're writing the fanfic between them.

For one thing, the absolute state of our orientations is that they're so misunderstood, so misrepresented and so unprotected from conversion therapy that I'm AFRAID going to therapy would lead to more aphobia and "it's not a sexual orientation you're just mentally ill" reasoning thrown at me. Therapy isn't inherently safe. (Well, I'm also sure a properly good therapist WOULD process things properly, but the risk is there, anyway.)
But yeah, also, with how invisibilized and stigmatized our orientations are, it has taken me, and is still every day taking me hard work to not internalize the fact that I should hate myself, or "fix myself 'cus I'm not right as I am", or both. And I draw about these things so that hopefully other people who also have to do this work feel less alone, and MORE mentally sane.
But yeah surely I SHOULD go to therapy for trying to bring better mental sanity and self-love to myself and others.
