Headcanon: B l o o d

In my Gajeel’s storyline, Rogue Cheney is his younger brother. A brother who he abandoned at a young age along with their so-called family (he’s not a fan, to say the least. Despite his disappearance, Rogue remained a firm admirer of his older brother. This admiration stood firm for many a year as Rogue began to follow the events of Phantom, even going as far as training to become a Phantom himself.

However, his dreams and blind admiration died along with one particularly gruesome encounter with his brother, in which Gajeel became enraged with his younger brother’s persistence (wanting very much to leave that past behind) and leaving his little brother in a near-death state. Whether or not the boy survived the injuries wasn’t something he was particularly invested in. Gajeel did not care. (Phantom Lord’s fall takes place soon after)

His actions on that day would be what would eventually create the Shadow Dragon we now know as Rogue Cheney, the small boy having been consumed by this blackness in his heart, clinging to the shadows, after his brother’s act of cruelty. Unable to open his eyes, focusing only on the darkness of his mind and the growing blackness in his heart, it is this extreme level of desperation and anguish that lured Skiadrum over to the boy (a dragon drawn to the darkest and most hopeless of hearts).

Going off of my last headcanon--

IF Gajeel were to take in the magic source of another dragon slayer (which I think is an absolutely preposterous idea, because if it doesn’t make sense for someone to randomly eat Cobra’s poison, why would eating any other dragon slayer’s magic make any sense) then there would be severe consequences depending on what he’s consumed.

Doing this does not go over well in the dragon slayer’s body. His own, while resilient in its own right, is simply not meant to digest or convert anything other than metals, so doing so would have a quite few negative effects, such as getting sick, experiencing fevers and extreme exhaustion and the like, as well as momentary lapses in reason (as if he was that sane to begin with) if he were to, for example, consume Rogue’s DARKNESS.

My Gajeel is not and will never be the Iron Shadow Dragon.

I can understand how a dragon slayer, while in a very tight situation, can consume another’s magic to survive and temporarily gain a sort of boost. What I don’t think is logical at all is for the user to suddenly be able to produce this substance without ever having done so in the past.

It lacks sense, and therefore will not play a part in my portrayal.

(Not to mention that I think Gajeel having taken Rogue’s shadow and Natsu taking Laxus’ lightning not only makes no sense, but is outright insulting to the other character).
