The Witch who'd never 'Witch'
My rest didn't last long enough for me to recover from an encounter I had with a bandit. I cursed him with a 'deadly' spell that turned him into a tiny orange cat. That left me so exhausted I proceeded to sleep under a sallow tree. But a fearless storm interrupted my sleep, I woke up in wild wind and dreadnought water drops. The breeze was so strong that the willow above me fell on top of me and I fell unconscious.
When I woke up again, soft warmness from the light of candles caressed my skin. I was lying on a padded bed, the sheets smelled like lavender and the cushions were spreading a bright scent of spring strawberry. On my right there was a lady, with bright turquoise curls, honey eyes and tanned dark skin. She was wearing a thin lightweight white dress with a bright golden rope belt. She was relieved when I opened my eyes.
"Thank Vittaria you are alive, i found you just in time." Those were her first words, her voice was like the feathers of a bird with a balanced pitch, giving her a gentle tone.
"Then I should thank you, not Vittaria, '' I answered. She gave a thin smile with honey while she washed a small towel in a bowl. "May I ask your name, young lady?”
"It doesn't matter... I'm just a helper woman who lives in the woods"
"You mean, a witch, am i right?"
The lady gasped in silence, dropping the towel in the bowl of water. She went noiseless after that and grabbed her hands, playing with her fingers. I got up and sat on the comfortable bed. I deduced she was a magical woman because of the herbs she had on shelves, the aura was filled with a magical but fresh scent. Like mint or eucalyptus. She seemed shamed of that, i started denying with my head while looking at her.
"Why are you ashamed of your own powers?"
"it reminds me of a self i am not anymore"
"What? have you killed someone?"
"No" She denied with a firmly voice
"Cursed someone?"
"No." Again but with more doubt in her tone
"Enchanted someone?"
"No..." this time, she was more nostalgic.
"I see."
We stayed quiet for the rest of the seconds of my interview, after that she got up and asked me to follow her, so i did.
The lady took me to a stunning place, it was a garden in a greenhouse. You were able to see the outside, rainy and grey, but on the inside she had her own Spring. So green, it seemed like a tiny fairy garden. We sat on a table with two cups and a kettle. The butterflies and bees were the only ones along with us.
Even though she that all that pleasing place, she seemed sad or weak. Her eyes gave me a small bright while giving me the cup of tea.
"I am a Fertile Witch, i can use every type of life..." She told me while a butterfly flew to her hand and opened and closed her wings like doors.
"You created a great job here, I must say." I recognized that fact.
"I didn't created all this... My power lets me control or change life, but not create nor destroy. When I was young I enjoyed my magic a lot, until I found out I can't have everything I want. As I grew I started to understand that life needs to grow by itself, and nothing should interrupt or corrupt its development..."
"It's hard for a witch to live without using its magic. You must be really strong."
"When you force love, you suffer the blow of the dragon's tail. I couldn't live trying to get a man to love me, he has to come to me by his will, not mine."
She was deeply in love with a strong built man. When she tried to make him love her, the consequences were highly dangerous. Since then, the witch had never used her powers never again.
"You don't need to be prisoned so everyone can be free, darling." I told her that while giving a little laugh. As an old mage I have learnt a lot, she was just a girl in love who thought her powers were only to 'use' things. Her eyes dropped tiny tears over her cup of tea, although her mouth stretched giving a nice smile in her lips.
"Thanks"
