I put up a link archive that sources to any ricstar fic not actively posted to AO3 or FFN! There's currently 90+ fics on it. These are majority fics posted from the 90s to the late 2000s on LiveJournal or X-Men Fanfic sites that are now gone. It can be found at ricshatty.neocities.org.
At the moment I've organized things by author name, but I intend to add the option to browse via fic rating (Teen, Mature, etc) in the future. It's also mobile friendly! Well, up until you get taken to wherever the fic was archived, I can't guarantee what that place looks like.
Please let me know if you find any errors, this was my first time coding something.
So I've been thinking how can rictor be introduced in 97. But the only way I can see that happening is if we get stryfe. Reason being Stryfe is cable archenemy besides apocalypse. He is also cable clone and in a way his evil twin brother. In the comics the Mlf was created as a force opposite to x-force. Stryfe took years to create and supply the mlf and also time travel much earlier in some points in time. This put him on a collision course with a young rictor. As we all know, Stryfe killed rictor dad but spared rictor and everyone else that day of the murder. This could have been done on purpose bc maybe he knew rictor would join the new mutants someday and wanted to create use rictor to create a rift in the new mutants trust in cable. This worked to some degree bc as soon as cable was being accused. Rictor jumped in to get justice on cable. So I can see rictor being used as a minor antagonist towards cable in later seasons only to find out the truth and maybe switch sides. I dont really see rictor hoping on the apocalypse train bc that is more intuned with much later time where apocalypse has been somewhat redeemed on a softer path with the introduction of krakoa as a nation. Now I think it would be fun to have a shatterstar/ Adam x cameo but similarly to the vulcan cameo. It would be a non-speaking role.
If x-men 97 wants to develop their alternate teams better and kick off an x-men vs x-force vs x-factor plotline, I can see them utilizing Stryfe. Problem in regards to Rictor though is... [Spoilers for S2E5] they just killed off Kane. So there goes the main person Rictor works with on Weapon Prime to get revenge on Cable. I guess maybe they could use G.W. still to convince Ric, but a Weapon Prime without Kane would be really weird. Frankly, I think they could operate completely fine with Rictor specifically hating Cable for no particular reason regarding his past -- even after Ric learns the truth in canon, he still beefs with Cable just because he Can. So I dont even think they need to go through the mess of Stryfe to adapt Rictor at all. They could just say he watched his father die to someone he'd been selling munitions too which, at a base level, is exactly what happened in canon. No need to even say it was Stryfe or ever have Stryfe pop up.
I highly doubt season 2 will be the end of Apocalypse, so that's why I can see them writing in Rictor to help "redeem" Nur at a later date. Happened in the comics and they already have sympathy built for Nur via his backstory. I can see them trying to do it.
Adam-X could be a fun way to go back to addressing the Shi'ar story in the first season. Yes, give me my niche summers brother so more people know the most 90s comic book hero to exist. My XTREME. In comparison, I doubt Shatterstar being adapted the most despite his swords appearing in the opening because 1. He'd be ridiculously expensive to animate due to his design 2. Longshot isnt in the series and Dazzler was killed off in the first season 3. You put in Shatterstar, you have to address his relationship with Rictor or he gets 0 character development. Aside from Morph, Xmen 97 has showed it really doesnt like adding queer mutants. I dont think theyd want to touch star with a ten foot pole.
I feel like all I end up posting here is polls since I draw once in a blue moon and also never link my fics outside of huge roundups. Oops lol. I should probably talk more

So then if you dont care for the horseman thing. What about the actual kids of apocalypse? Since apparently, apocalypse quoted that every time he made a horseman, it basically his way of trying to fill the gap made by the fact he missed his kids bc mommy genesis got full custody with no visitation rights for thousands of years.
Uh... I don't really care for them either. I never really liked any of the Arakkii except Isca. Genesis is interesting too as far as that goes. As for Poccy's kids (including Genocide) I have absolutely 0 feelings on any of them. I guess I should dislike pestilence for killing Rictor that one time. Death had the most potential to me of the group, but he's been MIA for years and what made him most interesting was his dynamic with Storm.
Also I wish writers didn't push the kid thing so hard with Poccy and his horseman because it doesn't always make sense to me. Maybe I've got the opposite of rose-tinted goggles when it comes to the horseman and thus it infects a lot of the characters surrounding it all. It just is what it is. I'm sure some people find it very interesting, I just kind of yawn whenever it shows up.
So marvel rivals has released jubilee voice line and interactions. Based on them jubilee is a vampire and a horsemen. I think she might be the pestilence horseman. But my question to you is if rictor or Shatterstar became horsemen which do you think they would be?
This is embarrassing. As much has I like Apocalypse, I've never liked or cared for the horseman schtick. I don't think there's much of a rhyme or reason why characters get picked sometimes for certain sets, personally. I'm one of those people who thinks Warren should've been the only horseman and left it at that.
So with that, what I think of Rictor and Shatterstar as horsemen is... I kind of don't care. You could tell me Rictor is pestilence or death or whatnot and I would not care about the symbolic difference in the least. Normally I'm game for symbols and deeper meanings, but there's something about the horseman concept I just hate. I guess if I have to pick, I'd say Rictor is death because he almost became the death horseman once, and Shatterstar is war since Leah Williams wanted him to becomes Krakoa's God of Battle after slaying the Morrigan. I guess. I really do not have a preference here in the least.
I dont know if you ever watched the Harley Quinn show or seen clips on YouTube. But there one character on the show named Frank the plant. He's basically poison ivy very sassy sidekick and he a plant monster she created. Anyway, I feel like if Rictor screwed around with magic. Ihe could end up making his daisy plant or the ivy vine exactly like frank and I would be so there for that.
https://youtu.be/mLbB3bjr_SY?is=6AwkQETRqV1tc6UL
Lol! I watched a little of the show a few years ago in passing when my brother was on a kick watching it. I do remember Frank the Plant, and you're so right, I think Ric could accidentally make himself a plant friend like that. I do think it's much funnier if its kept so only Ric can hear a plant talk, but I see the appeal in writing one that other people can hear too.
Now that you've pointed it out, I can't believe I've made him a plant friend twice now... though if I end up writing another fic where a plant friend is required again, I'd probably keep with the naming theme of a succulent named Daisy. Not just because I have a star cactus named Daisy (actually she's kind of dying right now due to a rot issue but her babies are thriving), but because it's also a joke about Quake having similar powers to him, as her name is Daisy.
So i was rewatching Coco the other day and thought about the badass and adorable Alebrijes and I just realized that marvel never used this concept but it should be explored for Rictor's character. Think about it -Alebrijes are Mexican guardian animal spirit guides that act as protectors for the Mexican families. Since Rictor powers got a major upgrade thanks finding his druid heritage. He could summon his family Alebrijes as a familar. I also think his Alebrije could be a fox or a dog or maybe a wolf because rahne.
I've never seen Coco or know much about alebrijes besides thinking they were an art piece style, so I went and talked to some of my Mexican mutuals about their thoughts. Turns out Coco just made up all that stuff about alebrijes! They're not really related to any of the different mythologies or traditional folklore in the country. They're actually pretty modern, the style generally introduced in the 1930s. I was told most of what the movie did to alebrijes is closer to what xoloitzcuintles are as guides in folklore instead. So there we go, an underworld guide dog! A real dog breed which I can see as being applied to some interesting concepts in the comic space.
However I did get some suggestions on other folklore applicable to rictor. Pato brought up aluxob as earth/nature sprites, but they're from Mayan myth. Him and his little army of clay sprites. Pame brought up chaneque as an adjacent, as theyre from Nahuatl speaking groups. Also chaneque are more underworld-adjacent from what was discussed, so that's probably what you might replace Coco's idea of an alebrijes with.
I'm not familiar with WixƔrika mythology, but since that is the indingeous background I see a lot of people headcanon Rictor having a connection to, I'd be interested in seeing anything involving their folklore with Rictor. It would take someone much more knowledgeable than me to speak on it though. I would just hope one day Marvel hires a writer or at least a consultant to help write Rictor if they ever finally make his magic more in connection to his background. Not even just a specific group but some general concepts in Mexican folklore would be nice. Alas... I bet Marvel would fuck it up, so I should be careful what I wish for.
stuff i gave up on from my ricstar old west au. ric just trying to do vaquero work up north to figure out how to ruin the supply chain his family runs, gets more than he bargained for by trailing around a circus "runaway" (who he thinks is a woman for the longest time) who seems to know something about the men hed been following going missing.
I have a bunch of old shangchi and/or lin lie drabbles sitting around (give or take featuring some other characters like amadeus) so I'm going to compile them all under read more's for this post :)
Dribble one: shang-chi ends up with a lin lie accidentally turned into a baby
āBrother Hand, what is that?ā
It was more difficult than it shouldāve been to answer. After all, any answer Shang-Chi gave wouldāve only compounded more. What clung to his shoulder was an anomaly that even he failed to explain, really. There were many things heād experienced in his time as a hero, and as the Supreme Commander of the Five Weapons Society, but this might have taken the cake.
āIt looks like a baby,ā Esme twirled a dagger between her hands, one of her favorite pass-times. Her gaze was open, curiosity half-hidden behind her feigned apathy. āYours?ā
Shang-Chi adjusted said child in his arms. He was half asleep, clinging to Shang-Chiās shoulder and beginning to soak drool into his collar.
āNo. Iāll take care of him for now but ā no, not related to me.ā
Takeshi stepped closer, and Esme followed suit, the latter circling around Shang-Chi like a hawk. Takeshi, however, had a warm light to his eyes, a soft smile in comparison to Esmeās frown. Perhaps Esme didnāt like being replaced as the familyās youngest.
āSurely you could be like father? Take him in as your own?ā Takeshi crouched, tilting his head to stare at the child.
Esme huffed, continuing her circle, now having to skirt around Takeshi too. āWhat? Father never did that.ā
āHe did, my brother Midnight Sun is not of the same blood,ā Shang-Chi adjusted his hold on the child once more, passing him to a different shoulder before Esme could poke at him. MāNai brought back bad memories. āAnd Iām not taking him in, just watching him for the moment. He has a family.ā
Somewhere. Shang-Chi failed to clarify that the childās father was most definitely missing, if his memory served him correctly.
āHeās babysitting,ā Esme mock-whispered from over Shang-Chiās shoulder.
āAnd where did you get it from?ā Zhilan darted in from Shang-Chiās periphery, staying a respectful distance away and watching with her arms folded.
āHeās someone I know.ā
That someone being Sword Master, Lin Lie now more of a child in Shang-Chiās eyes than heād ever been. Of course, when something had gone awry during an Agents of Atlas mission, heād been the first volunteer to take him in, child form and all. Despite how much Shang-Chi trusted his teammates they were all too young, not responsible enough to take Lin Lie as he was now.
Not that he was much of a better option, running the Five Weapons Society. But he was still a better choice than Amadeus who probably wouldnāt figure out how to feed Lie, or Luna who had her reputation to think of. Heād thought it best to have Master Ling look at Lie, and then the ordeal would be over with. Wouldnāt it?
Part of Shang-Chi regretted it, but Lin Lie had been his self-appointed responsibility even when the other was grown. He could handle a baby for a day or two. There was no way it could cause more problems than Lin Lie liked to cause on occasion.
Lin Lie dripped another bubble of spit down his shoulder and mumbled unintelligible syllables. Shang-Chi withheld a wince.
Zhilan raised an eyebrow. āYou⦠know the baby. Brother, do you even know how to take care of one of those?ā
Drabble two: amadeus makes mention of his past involvement with SHIELD and the illuminati much to lin lie's confusion
Often, Lin Lie is reminded how out of place he was as a hero, especially compared to others. Particularly Amadeus and his occasional slips of his background.
āI hate S.H.I.E.L.D.ā Amadeus grumbled to the screens lighting his face, chin held in a palm.
Lin Lie grinned at his side. While heād slowly warmed up to the other Agents of Atlas, it was a question if they had warmed up to him yet. The occasional joke seemed to work the trick on Lei Ling and Pearl ā why not Amadeus? āWhat, they didnāt like your proposed plan?ā
Still in a bored monotone, a slow blink from Amadeus all the while he continued tapping on the screen before him, he replied. āBecause they almost killed my dog and kept me locked up and interrogated for months. Two separate instances, by the way.ā
āThey what?ā
This time, Amadeus finally leaned back in his chair, a slow stretch as he did so. Lin Lie avoided openly watching. āDude, you donāt even want to know. They trashed my portable teleporters then too, those were useful. Doctor Doom wouldnāt help me build new ones after everything.ā
āSorry. Did you just say Doctor Doom?ā
Amadeus cut Lin Lie a sidelong glance. His expression had dropped, one of the few moments his serious persona came to light as a tight frown tugged at his mouth. All aimed at Lin Lie, who poked and prodded at the wrong subjects. āNevermind.ā
Drabble three: Lin lie wakes up for the first time after his death
This was written like a year and a half ago so I have no clue if comics have since retconned any of this, this was just intended to be lin lie whump when I wrote it
There had to be some kind of cosmic entity that hated Lin Lie in particular.
It was one thing to die ā to be unsatisfied in his quest to find his father, abandoned off a cliffside while his only clue, his family relic, was shattered before his eyes. But there was relief in it all, a weight off his shoulders when he died. He was certainly not meant for anything that was dumped in his lap. Not being an Agent of Atlas, nor hunting Chiyou, none of it. His family was the only motive he had for continuing as Sword Master, for even considering fighting. Not that he was good at it, anyways.
So when Lin Lieās head swam like a brick, and the lancing pain in his arms begged him to return to unconsciousness, it was only fair that said cosmic entity began to laugh at its creation. Puppeting Lin Lie back to life like a jester, leaving his thoughts muddled, vision hazy beyond bays of sand and lingering wisps of gold.
And most importantly, leaving his hands in shredded agony. A mess of blood and seawater etched into his vision, a swimming mass of reds and greens that stood out sharply from the paleness of his skin.
Fu Xiās sword, or what remained of it, was shattered into his arms.
Somehow, that drew tears of frustration to his eyes faster than the agonizing pain did. His familyās sword ā the one thing he was responsible for, the one thing his father had left in his hands ā destroyed. Lin Lie curled into himself, drawing his arms tight to his abdomen. If not to quell the pain, it was to remove the sight of his failure from his eyes.
Between the water lingering in his ears and the drum of his own pulse, the cacophony of several pairs of feet shuffling towards him was lost.
A throat cleared, wavering just above Lin Lieās own loud breaths. āYou ā how did you get here?ā
Lin Lieās gaze snapped upwards. The sun was blinding, leaving the gathered figures to be little more than fuzzy shadows against the blue sky. His head pounded, an expressed agony made worse by the cut of the sun. Salt clung to his lashes, leaving the image of the others to multiple in number.
āWhat?ā Lin Lieās tongue rasped like sandpaper in his mouth.
Mandarin? Or ā Shanghainese? English? The language was foreign, unintelligible. Except, even as it rang in his ears, he understood the words true and clear. A resemblance to none of the languages he knew, yet encompassing them all.
The voices whispered. Or perhaps they spoke at a normal volume, only they were drowned by the ringing pain in Lin Lieās ears. Regardless, they were incessant. The shadows moved like they were glancing at one another, but it was difficult to tell without Lin Lie being able to adjust to the detail. Many of them blended together, the number of shadows were impossible to count.
āAn outsider?ā
āThereās something wrong. Look at the blood soaking him.ā
āMaybe we should get theāā
Lin Lie huffed out a breath, going to tuck his arms tighter to himself before crying out at the added pain the pressure caused. He dragged them away from his body on impulse, into the open air to cool the stinging lances.
One of the shadows moved closer, dropping down enough for Lin Lie to make out their detail despite the drip of sea water and sweat into his eyes. Traditional clothes, like theyād come straight from a xianxia series, flitted in the sea air. A gentle hand, carefully skirting where Fu Xi had embedded itself, tugged at one of his hands, bringing it up higher.
āThose shards exude magic. Might be how he ended up here.ā
āStop,ā Lin Lie pulled his arm with all his strength, but it did little more than cause his fingers to twitch in the other's grasp. Anger boiled in his chest with no direction but outwards. It would do little to fester at himself, his helplessness for long, and instead it instead to rise towards the others. His throat burned and his muscles strained. āLet me go.ā
If he was alive, and the pain in his hands certainly confirmed that to be the truth, he needed to get back to White Fox. He couldnāt leave her to face that demon alone, even if it cost him his life again, Fu Xi be damned. If he couldnāt save himself, heād save her at least.
Instead, however, the lofty hand tugged at him in an attempt to pull him to his feet. Lin Lie resisted the nausea that rose at that, a wave of fatigue and anguish far stronger than itād been when heād been curled up on himself. If the figure had not been holding his arm high, he would have collapsed straight back into the sand.
āStop,ā Lin Lie repeated, more force behind his command. He just ā just needed to rest. Sleep. Get away from these people and return to the Agents of Atlas. Shang-Chi could help, right? Help him fix his arms, his sword. Help him scramble through his potential death. Shang-Chi always seemed to have the answers.
But the insistent hand pulled again, and pain began to flare past his arm and up his shoulder. Unfair. The pain was unfair, Lin Lie did not deserve any of this, not his death, not being stranded on some beach, not his family disappearing and having to deal with Chiyou. None of it.
The gold in his vision that had gradually ebbed away returned in full force, a blaze of comforting warmth that stilled the burning of Fu Xi, the agony in the grip on his hand. While it only outwardly shimmered from his hand, Lin Lie shuddered at the weightlessness he felt from the disappearance of his pain. The same caress that had dragged him from death, away from the dark maws heād been content to stay in.
The hand holding his dropped and several shadows that gradually took shape into real people taking frantic steps away. In turn, Lin Lie positioned shaky legs beneath himself, rising up without the pain that had previously been withholding him. A mellowness sat in his chest, foreign its power, a wisp of magic that was wholly unfamiliar compared to what Fu Xiās sword radiated.
This time, the othersā words were clearer, without the undercurrent of an ocean drowning them out.
āIs that Shou-Laoāsā?ā
āDonāt tell me heās an Iron Fist!ā
A body broke from the line of figures, all wearing what Lin Lie would otherwise qualify as a xianxia set attire. A young man, perhaps Lin Lieās age, stamping forward with the snaps of his sleeves billowing behind. Thunder cracked across his face, a morphing vexation directed at Lin Lie.
āYou stole it!ā Just meters away, the other finally stopped his advance, dropping into a defensive stance. Something like what Shang-Chi often tried to drill into Lin Lieās head. āGive Shou-Laoās heart back.ā
Lin Lie matched the stance in tandem. It was more instinctual than it should have been, but perhaps Shang-Chiās lessons had finally begun to rub off on him. The gold at the edges of his vision, what sat in an undercurrent in his veins and flared across his hands, guided him.
Apprehension ran tight across Lin Lieās muscles. Even though some clarity had returned to him, the sight of Fu Xiās jagged fragments bloodying his arm, his Sword Master top shredded to pieces, distracted him. Each glance was a reminder of his failure, and an alarm distantly pinged that something was wrong. The agonizing pain from moments before had been soothed, but why? And how long would it last?
āYang Yi! Cease.ā
A new figure stepped forward this time, blindfolded and in simpler attire than the others. But an air of authority surrounded the woman, commanding despite her appearance. She stalked forward, pushing the supposed Yang Yiās hand down without once turning her head towards him.
āYou know as well as everyone else that you cannot steal the title of Iron Fist. If he took Shou-Laoās heart, then he earned the title.ā
Lin Lie blinked, but stayed poised in his stance. Curious eyes returned to him as he clarified, āI never stole anything.ā
Did he? His memory remained fuzzy after his tumble off the cliff. There had been dozens of pin needles crawling into his skin, the shards of Fu Xi attempting to pull him from harm but causing the reverse instead, and the terrible suffocation of water he could not tread. Down and down, nothing he could do to drag himself from the darkness.
And there was gold, bright and warm, reflecting like scales in his memories. But that was all he could recollect before the pain radiated him back to consciousness, beached like a dying whale on some random shore.
āLiar! We can all see you using Shou-Laoās chi. Do you think our protector isnāt unmistakable to us?ā That same young man, again.
And once more, the woman silenced the other, this time giving him a sharp look despite her eye coverings. āEnough of that, Yang Yi. Let this Iron Fist speak for himself.ā

So now that you have read a AoA ricstar story. What are your thoughts on being able to try something similar or just the concept itself?
Although I thought the author translated Shatterstar super well, I still have 0 interest in coming up with my own idea to integrate Shatterstar. Could this change in the future? Sure. But at the moment I have no motivation for it. I do have wips that involve the AoA universe, but Shatterstar would not originate from there. Just not interested in it right now! I have too many ideas already solidly formed floating by for me to spend time fleshing out another one I don't need at the moment.
But rest assured if you are interested in seeing something involving AoA and ricstar, I've got something cooking. Slowly. Right now, aside from no matter the version, the longfic I'm working on is actually apocaric. I'd considered posting a lot of chapter 1's at once to about... 6 fics. And then letting readers say which they wanted finished first. But eh, im in the mood to post an actual long apocaric fic first. We'll see if that changes as i write.
Is there a market for anyone to read wolfsboom (tabitha/rahne) fic. Because I had an idea thats compelling me but I also have such a big ricstar backlog and im like maybe I should focus on that
would you spend time reading a boomboom/wolfsbane fic
I take back all my badmouthing of the possibility of getting shatterstar translated into the AoA universe. Just found a fic that had done it, and I'm thoroughly impressed.
