We can't stop here, this is fiery bat country.
For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen. Speech has allowed the communication of ideas, enabling human beings to work together to build the impossible. Mankind's greatest achievements have come about by talking, and its greatest failures by not talking. It doesn't have to be like this. Our greatest hopes could become reality in the future. With the technology at our disposal, the possibilities are unbounded. All we need to do is make sure we keep talking.

Colour Blindness is not bad.
I grew up in an era where Whoopi Goldberg and Jackie Chan streaked the mainstream as Hollywood icons. My neighborhood was majority Indigenous and South Sea Islander and during a time when colour blindness was the norm for everyone. The perceptions and interactions with people who were of different races were just normal, noone made assumptions about a person based on their ethnicity and instead judged people on their character as another human being. Since then I have seen the ideals of colour blindness being pushed out and a new ideologoy has taken the forefront. Race is now in the forefront of everyone's minds and this seems to have only made matters worse. What people seem to not realise when discussing the attitude of colour blindness is that it isn't about ignoring the person's race and their experiences, problems and circumstances. It is to do with the daily interpersonal experiences with people, you place people's humanity first and treat all people with the same respect and kindness as everyone else regardless of their ethnicity and you judge a person on their character not the colour of their skin. I think this way of treating people is far more beneficial than the way we deal with race and ethnicity now, groups are segregating themselves and arousing ire from others around them. Racism and bigotry from all sides are on the rise and noone wins in this game. This is just my opinion and I am sure many will disagree, but I thought a different view on this topic albiet a controversial one may be beneficial.

How far left
So a little rant on the topic of the extreme left or more recently dubbed regressive left. Of late I have been labeled as right wing, conservative and an MRA. Whilst being wildly inaccurate it is interesting. How far left isn't left enough? I am an atheist and an egalitarian, I am an advocate for gay marriage (still not legal in Australia). I am a Greens supporter (Australia's left wing environmentalist political party). But I disagree with 3rd wave feminism and suddenly I am a conservative right wing. The amusing thing is, is that I also want equality for all people, but I fundamentally disagree with the approach of 3rd wave feminism and I take issue with poorly reasoned arguments and poorly thought out arguments no matter who they come from. Bad ideas and fallacious logic should be criticised no matter; who says it, how lofty the goal or good the intent. Thoughts?
Ever questioned the religion of chemists and nuclear warhead engineers? Or LOLRELIGIONKILLSNOTSCIENCE is your answer?
Do you understand what a religion is? I am assuming not.
you're right!!!! literally what's the point of trying to be pleasant and polite!!!! who cares about others' feelings amiright??? PC???bullshit!!!! why would i ever just want to have a pleasant conversation with someone without making them uncomfortable!!! why would I want to be nice!!! why!!!! you're right!!!!
Are you special? The damage of words comes from intent not the word itself. If you read my earlier post on this you would understand my argument. Instead you made an assumption and ran with it and you know what they about when you assume. You make an ass out of you and me. Well not me but you get the point.
Oh man, another edgy conservative bringing up 1984, missing its point entirely and the political affiliations of who wrote it. It's like an emo teenager, only hypocritical.
Oh my god, I am being labeled conservative. I love when the left is labeled right by the extreme left.
From one English teacher to another, the idea that you are in a position of authority and influence over young, vulnerable and impressionable minds is fucking horrifying.
For you to believe I would allow my personal beliefs to be injected into my classroom is insulting. We as teachers are not allowed to promote any ideology, religion or political stance. We have a job to help children achieve their academic goals not preach our personal agendas.
what grade of english do you teach
I teach senior high school predominately.
Amusement and corrections
So, I have come back from a brief hiatus to see that two of my posts got quite a little bit of attention. The first was a rant on trigger warnings. A lot of people took the two examples as a definitive list for some unknown reason. They were examples for context not an exhaustive list, clearly PTSD and triggers extend beyond war and rape and assuming otherwise would be fallacious or stupidity at its finest. The rant was about the blatant misuse of the term. I have seen people claim to be triggered by a comment that they disagree with as triggering. I was merely trying to add some context and nuance to this issue. Second was my little poem 1984, to which the overwhelming majority of people have liked. However it seems some SJW's and pseudo intellectuals took issue with it, much to my amusement. I would highly suggest reading the notes it really made my night seeing them flail around trying to disprove a poem. I am really tempted to make a collage of the best comments. I should be back in the swing of things soon, my teaching workload has been a little on the weighty side preparing ESL students for their year 12 mid term exams.

It is 2016 they call
But all I hear is 1984

Shakespeare's a misogynist.
It’s sad.
Shakespeare wrote plenty of strong female characters, take Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing for example. Ignoring that he wrote plays for the common folk in a time when women were actually oppressed in the west, you would expect to see these themes appear in his work. Literature is often a snapshot of the times, not the personal views of a writer.
What is sad, is that you are judging one of the most influential and talented playwrights of all time.
jfc this post is from feb 2012, pls get a life???????
Stupidity doesn't have an expiry date.
Language like many other things has been controlled for too long by those in power.
Controlling language is disgusting, this extends to all people whether you are in power or not.
Currently the main proponents of language control are SJWs and religious ideologs.
Words are tools, it is how we use them. No words are inherently bad or evil, it is all about intent when using language.
People really don’t understand what I’m trying to say…
Perhaps adding some context would help minimise ambiguity.
Why? I made this post for me. I know what it means. Everyone else were the ones who decided my thoughts were their business.
You do realise you posted this on an open forum on the internet right.
Unless you set your blog to private people will comment. That is kind of the point of social media. Key word here being social...
If you want to keep your thoughts private , I would suggest keeping them in your head, instead of posting them on social media.
A little rant about triggering
When did we become so sensitive? What the fuck happened to us?
I see posts from people about being triggered by this and by that. It is ludicrous.
Do you want to know who actually gets triggered? People with PTSD.
Vietnam veterans who jump at the sound of a back firing car, 40 years on.
Rape victims, who smell the cologne or perfume of the perpetrator.
These are real victims, who have suffered real trauma.
To the other cunts who play on this term, because their little snow flake feelings were hurt or found something you disagree with. Harden the fuck up. You are acting like children and you are minimising real sufferers of PTSD.
