ABOUT | RULES | STARTER CALL
Chase’s optic ridges rose in surprise as he watched the alien’s weapon simply… vanish. It did occur to him that it might be some sort of illusion, but he couldn’t just leave the being stranded and injured.
“I’m going to take out my first aid kit.” The police bot’s movements were slow and deliberate as he retrieved the kit from his subspace and came closer to look over Iruru’s injury and see what he could do for her.
“Luckily, some of the more vital spaceship parts are standardized throughout the galaxy, so my team and I should be able to assist you in that aspect as well. My name is Chase, I am a rescue bot from the planet Cybertron.”
If Iruru’s race was a space fairing one, there was a slender possibility that she could have, at least, heard of it. “What planet do you hail from?”
Iruru's sharp gaze remained locked on the mech, closely following each of his movements. When he came closer, Iruru had to tilt her head back to keep her eyes on him.
Warily, she unwrapped the blanket, revealing her left arm that was covered in bruises. She straightened it as far as she could comfortably.
"I am... relieved to hear that," she said, not sounding relieved. She was still wary of him.
The truth was, Iruru hadn't known that. Sure, she had traveled a lot, but mostly near planets that were either occupied by or cooperating with Keronians - in other words, planets where maintenance for Keronian spaceships was easily available. Now she realized it'd been an oversight not to stock up in spare parts for a situation like this.
Iruru had not heard of Cybertron, but it was possible that some other Keronians more familiar with space traveling knew about it.
"I am lance corporal Iruru. I come from Keron, the fifty-eight planet of the gamma planetary system." She tilted her head ever so slightly. "To my knowledge, Pekopon - natively called Earth - is not cooperating with other planets at the moment. Are you and your team working under disguise?"
Admittedly, digging through the trash--Whether it be on Earth, or on her home planet--Was probably not so commonly practiced due to norms, and unsanitary issues. And despite Mourningstar’s wandering optics, she appeared to understand such when she didn’t think twice about Iruru not having any experience foraging in the garbage.
“I truly was fortunate to have my escape pod land in such a remote area, I’d hate to disturb anyone on their own planet,” She remarked, helm lowering slightly before lifting once prompted with another question.
“My diet usually consists of whatever I can find… Just about anything I consume can be converted into fuel for myself, but most—If not, all Cybertronians run on Energon,” She answered, her tone lilting upon naming the specific substance. “It comes from raw crystal deposits found in the ground, apparently all planets seem to have them, but they’re not as plentiful. Especially nowadays, the war has taken its toll and Energon has become scarce; my escape pod was able to tap into one where it landed, so I’ve been stockpiling as much as I can.”
There was a hint of hope in how Mourningstar grinned, and her optics veered in two different directions; blissfully naive.
“That way, if I find any other Cybertronians on this planet, I can share…!~ Maybe it will even help when it’s safe to go home.”
Iruru had not heard of energon, but she believed the fact that it could be found all across the space - maybe some could've been found even in the Keron planet, if Keronian engineers only knew how to identify it.
Hearing about a war was somewhat alarming, and Iruru's eyes widened a bit. She wasn't sure if Pekopon was part of the battlefield or if the war took place somewhere else, but it didn't sound like Cybertronians had it easy.
It seemed like a lot of Mourningstar's kind were scattered around the space - or at least around these parts - if she considered it a realistic possibility to stumble upon another one here.
"Is the war the reason it is not safe to return back to Cybertron at the moment?" she asked. Her tone had grown a little softer, a bit more sympathetic.
When he heard the unfamiliar voice’s demand, Chase stopped in his tracks and raised his empty servos, palms outward, to show that he was unarmed.
“Very well. Though, as I stated before, I merely wish to be of assistance.” The police bot frowned as he studied the smaller alien, noting the difficulty they seemed to be having. “Are you injured?”
A small tremble ran through the Keronian when she heard the repeated offer of assistance. She didn't let her guard down, not yet, but... she couldn't deny that she was stranded and in need of help. She wanted to feel relieved, but the quick arrival of rescue seemed almost too good to be true.
Iruru couldn't help her gaze flicking momentarily at her injured left arm that was held by the makeshift sling. While she didn't like the idea of being vulnerable in front of a stranger, she knew she had no choice but to trust this mech.
"Yes, although I am more concerned about my spaceship. A meteor storm forced me to make an emergency landing, and it appears the ship got damaged in the process."
The Keronian seemed to weigh the situation for a moment longer; then she lowered the rifle, and the air around the weapon shimmered before it disappeared. Please do not make me regret this, she thought silently, her alert gaze locked on the bot.
Mourningstar simply nodded in understanding of the polite decline to her invitation, they had just formed their acquaintanceship, after all. While the femme was lonely, she knew better than to make a fuss. Smiling calmly, she acknowledged the Keronian's question, and folded her lanky arms inward so she could settled down in a loaf on the forest floor.
"I'm not quite sure, if I'm being honest... Cybertron has different measurements of time, so it may not quite make much sense," The femme babbled, glancing up pensively while her helm tilted to the side. "What I do know, is that I've been in these woods long enough to see the nearby town outside the wilderness be built into what it is now. I could see it all from the mountain range!"
"I've even been here long enough to make a little steading for myself in these woods too. I grow Earth crops to make into my own fuel, and I make things out of the trash that the locals throw out from time to time. Have you ever visited their scrapyards or their disposal yards? The dumpsters can also have a good amount of things to find too.~"
While Mourningstar could not give a precise answer, the things she described led Iruru to believe that she had been here at least several years, perhaps dozens. If it had been very long, maybe she didn't even remember the exact time of her arrival anymore. The Keronian merely nodded while listening politely.
"I cannot say I have," Iruru responded, not really having any good reason to. In fact, imagining of going through the garbage left by Pekoponians was mildy repulsive. At the same time, she could understand how valuable asset it was to a stranded Cybertronian trying to make a living.
Now that Iruru thought about it a little more, it sounded very, very lonely. No wonder Mourningstar was excited to have a visitor.
"Your resourcefulness is admirable. Not everyone would be able to survive in a foreign planet while hiding from the native species." Iruru tilted her head slightly, looking curious. "I hope it is not terribly intrusive of me to ask, but what does your diet consist of?" She couldn't help but wonder what Cybertronians ate. Considering Mourningstar's size alone, Iruru imagined she needed a lot of food to stay healthy. Or did Cybertronians eat food at all?
Milo was always calling the emergency line during storms, constantly claiming to have seen an alien space craft descending from the sky under the cover of the weather.
Unfortunately all emergency calls had to be taken seriously, so Chase was headed for the forest covered foothills surrounding Mount Griffin.
As he approached, he noticed a long bare patch through the trees, as though something the size of a bot had been thrown at a high velocity and smashed against them.
Transforming into bot mode, Chase cautiously followed the line of destruction until he came upon a snow dusted ship that looked like it had seen much better days.
“Hello? Do not be alarmed, I am a rescue bot. I am here to help you.”
Realizing she couldn't do much repairs in her current condition, Iruru turned to take a better look at her surroundings. She would need to camouflage the spaceship, check the nearby area for potential dangers, gather more food...
Suddenly she stopped still, as if having heard a sound coming from somewhere nearby. A brush of a branch, a snap of a twig? She wasn't sure what exactly had caught her attention, but she knew better than to doubt her instinct.
With a quick whisk of her scarf, she disturbed the tracks she'd left on the snow, then leaped behind a set of bushes nearby. She gritted her teeth as sharp pain ran up her left arm, but she didn't pause to wait it out. Swiftly, she hid in the foliage, her rifle aimed and ready.
Soon a tall, blue-and-white, mechanical-looking figure emerged. However, the way he moved with intention, observing his surroundings carefully, indicated that he was a sentient being and not built by Pekoponians.
At least he sounded peaceful. However, with her injury and lack of knowledge of the area, Iruru knew she was at disadvantage. After a moment of hesitation, she called out:
"Stop! I do not want to shoot you."
Aware that her words would reveal her location, Iruru stood up, holding her rifle awkwardly with one arm, and stepped into the clearing as her true colors returned. The Keronian kept her aim at the bot whose fists were nearly as big as she was - she felt as though her weapon was the only protection she had against the much bigger stranger.
Not having any reason to doubt Iruru, and perceiving that she was highly competent in her line of work, Mourningstar nodded contentedly. Swiveling her hips around one-eighty degrees before her long legs folded to let her sit in an almost mammalian manner on the ground.
“Keeerooon…” She echoed, fascinated at the mention of Iruru’s homeworld. “Hmm… Cybertron has a city that sounds similar to it,” Mourningstar commented with a quiet chuckle, though she frowned a little when she actually seemed to remember something.
“Hopefully, Keron is a little more peaceful…” The hybrid murmured, optics going out of focus momentarily while her twin tendrils wilted some. Just until the conversation was back on track. “I’m glad that you managed to land safely!~”
Confidently, Mourningstar nodded her helm in response to Iruru’s question, to the point her optics audibly rattled within their sockets.
“Yes,” She chirped, grinning at her newfound acquaintance. “There is a cave that I stay in, and I’ve made a quaint steading in that clearing.~ Would you like to come visit?” The femme offered, no hint of suspicion towards the Keronian.
Iruru's eyes locked on Mourningstar's moving form while she assumed a sitting posture. She wanted to ask so many questions - who was she, what was she, where was she from - but saw no reason to flood her with questions. It would've been rude at the very least... and perhaps dangerously irritating at most.
However, Iruru did catch the name of Cybertron. She thought back to the planets she knew or had at least heard of, but Cybertron didn't sound familiar to her.
Iruru held her hands together on her lap, trying to soothe her nerves but not being able to be fully at peace. She couldn't begin to fathom the nature of Mourningstar, the way her body was structured, how her eyes made a sound at movement. However, she'd seen enough strange things during her travels to know better than to make a strict judgment of things she didn't fully understand.
She hoped that thought would've helped her feel more at ease, though.
Iruru was just about to say how fortunate it was that Mourningstar had a place to stay, when the offer caught her off-guard. She looked at her, unable to speak for a moment while her thoughts were running fast.
"...m-maybe a little later," the Keronian finally uttered, not wanting to offend her with an outright rejection, but also not feeling confident in following her to a location that could be even more isolated and unfamiliar. "You said you have been here since you woke up from... some kind of stasis? How long ago was that?"

"Peko-pon...?" Mourningstar echoed again, her many optics flickering out of sync before the six extras sealed back up. "Oh...! I didn't know other planets had their own names for Earth, how fascinating!~" She chimed while her dermas curled into an unintentionally eerie grin.
The femme clearly hadn't expected to find another extraterrestrial visitor on Earth, nor did it seem like she knew anything about the galaxy. However, she didn't sense any danger from Iruru.
"Mhmm...!~ I've been staying in these woods ever since I woke up from cryo-stasis, after my escape pod landed into that mountain range over there," Mourningstar confirmed, pointing one of her long and willowy digits towards said mountains in the distance that was surrounded by a sea of trees. "I haven't been able to socialize with anyone for so long, the humans don't usually explore this part of the forest, so it's very nice to see someone for a change!"
The hybrid could visibly see Iruru, and was fully aware that she was practically a titan in comparison to, yet the Keronian's tense posture went unnoticed.
"If you've visited this planet before, does that mean you're on vacation? I hope that I wasn't interrupting anything," She remarked, her helm hovered closely on her ever-extending neck cables.
Iruru let her gaze flick at the mountains momentarily. While it was a shame to hear Mourningstar hadn't really had any company, it was also relieving to know that Pekoponians rarely entered this area.
Based on the information Iruru had gathered both consciously and subconsciously so far, she came to the conclusion that Mourningstar meant no harm. Of course, it could've been a cat-and-mouse situation where the predator had no rush finishing off its prey, knowing fully well it had no chances of fleeing... but if so, there wasn't much Iruru could do about it. If anything, being tensed up would only strain the Keronian the longer she stayed like this.
Iruru took a step back and sat down with legs crossed. She finally started looking sideways, examining her surroundings in absent manner, trying to not be bothered by the close presence of the other.
"I suppose that could be said, in a sense. I completed my mission two days ago, and I was asked to perform a routine check on Pekopon before making my return to Keron planet." Iruru decided to omit the detail that she had not been given a deadline and was not expected to return anytime soon - she felt that was the kind of sensitive information you didn't reveal to someone you'd just met.
She made a small reassuring gesture with her hand. "Please do not worry. I made a quick landing due to the storm last night, and I was merely exploring the area." Then she tilted her head askingly. "Did you have someplace to take shelter in during the worst of the weather?"

"Ir-Ur-U..." Mourningstar echoed, voice drawling as her glossa tested the word.
The words were definitely foreign to the femme, typical for even another alien being such as herself. However, the femme smiled before resting herself on the forest floor to try and get as close to Iruru's level as she could.
"A pleasure to meet you, Iruru...~ My name is Mourningstar," She chirped, unblinking red optics honed in on the smaller being. "Keron Planet... You're a stranger here to Earth as well," She acknowledged, tilting her helm.
The two red lights within the hollow black sockets weren't the only things staring at Iruru, but as Mourningstar's doll-like visage leaned in a bit closer, the tear streak-like markings down her cheekplates split open to let six more red eyes peek out at the little Keronian.
"Peculiar..." Mourningstar mused, the two beady reds dilated in wonder. "Have you been enjoying this Earth biome too?" The fembot inquired, her demeanor relaxing as she got comfortable lying on the grass.
Iruru's skin felt cold when she heard her name said out loud. It seemed that the creature understood her, or could at least repeat what she'd said. Iruru's sharp eyes remained locked on her as she settled against the ground.
From what she could see, Iruru estimated her to be at least ten times her own size. While the Keronian appeared calm, she felt as though her heart was trying to beat its way out of her chest.
Then Mourningstar introduced herself, and, realizing only now she'd held her breath, Iruru let out a long, silent sigh. As she'd suspected, the femme wasn't from Pekopon either.
Iruru couldn't help flinching when Mourningstar leaned even closer and revealed more peering eyes, which were met with an unrelenting gaze. However, she was careful not to do anything that could be interpreted as a threatening behavior.
"I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Mourningstar. I only arrived last night," Iruru responded, her tone surprisingly polite despite her rigid appearance. "However, I have visited Pekopon - uh, Earth - on multiple occasions before, and it is a rather pleasant planet."
"I take you have already familiarized yourself with this place?"
THUMP! ... THUMP! ...CREEEEAAAK...
Flocks of birds fluttered up and out of the surrounding trees, startled by the mild vibrations that began to shake through the nearby forest floor as a towering, dark and gangly form began to emerge from the depths of the wilderness. Not even remotely camouflaged like Iruru was… Mourningstar loomed on all fours like a nightmarish cryptid, her slender posture like that of a wild animal as she shook off the rainwater that drenched her metal frame.
"Brrrrr...!" The hybrid shivered, rapidly shaking in intervals until she was dry.
Once she did, her optics rattled within the hollow black sockets like two red beads before flickering, and realigning themselves. Peering down from her imposing stature, Mourningstar let out a coo once she spotted Iruru; those beady, unblinking red lights glowing amidst the voids that were her optic sockets grew bigger as she craned her long and skinny neck down to get a closer look.
“Hello…?” She greeted curiously, her voice a deep yet feminine drawl.
As the ground began to tremble beneath her feet, Iruru was torn between two options: hiding or fleeing. She looked around, searching for something like a large rock or a fallen tree, but nothing in her close proximity offered a sufficient cover.
There was a set of bushes, though, and she duck behind those, now extending her arm to her side. The air shimmered, and a sniper rifle materialized into her grip. She moved next to a small rock, supported the rifle against it and did a personal speed record of checking the weapon's functionality. Then she looked up and came to two startling realizations.
One: the creature that had appeared was so big that it could easily see over the bushes.
Two: it was nothing like Iruru had ever seen before.
While the Keronian was still trying to grasp what she was looking at, the thing began to shake, making an unnerving noise that brought chills to Iruru's back. She leaned behind the rifle, knowing fully well that she didn't know anything. Could the thing be hurt? Would it retaliate if Iruru tried to shoot? Or would she even have a chance to try before it would finish her off?
She was about to look through the scope when she noticed that her arms had gone purple. She looked down and realized her form had changed color. Then she looked up and saw two red eyes peering at her.
In a split second, Iruru came to a decision and the weapon disappeared from her arms. There was no point in trying to use it; she hoped that her gut feeling was correct and a peaceful demeanor was her best chance of survival. She exhaled, and her body regained its normal gray color.
As the creature leaned closer, Iruru felt herself pull back instinctively, but she didn't break the eye contact.
"Hello," she replied in a soft and careful voice, with a small nod, yet her eyes remained locked in the stranger. "I am Lance Corporal Iruru from Keron planet."
Deeper into the wilderness, all seemed normal for the most part. However, there was an abnormal set of tracks that trailed along the forest floor. It looked an awful lot like tire tracks, but there were only one set for each trail. Some more bizarre prints in the grass and dirt appeared more like massive, hands with extremely long, sharp fingers with little round indents; presumably where feet would have been if the tracks were made by a quadrupedal creature. In other places, there were neither tire tracks nor eerie hand prints, but the pair of small circular indents dotting the earth. Whatever made those tracks, it was abundantly obvious of one thing:
That they were made by something gigantic. Not just gigantic, but also possibly mechanical.
The moment Iruru spotted strange marks on the ground, she stopped to listen cautiously. Considering the heavy rain from the previous night, these could be no more than few hours old. Iruru had explored a few locations across Pekopon in the past, but she couldn't recall ever seeing anything of this sort.
She advanced now more carefully, scanning her surroundings for anything that might look alive or out of place. She wasn't looking for fight, and thus, didn't summon her weapon, at least not yet. All she wanted to do was to see the creature - or creatures - that had left these marks, so she could determine whether she should keep exploring or go back and move her spaceship elsewhere, out of potential harm's way.
Her yellow eyes were sharp and focused when she stopped on top of a hill to listen. Birds were still singing, which was a good sign. Somewhere in the woods ahead bubbled a river.
She began to proceed down the hill carefully, but she wasn't careful enough. Beneath a patch of crushed grass was soft mud, and the moment she stepped on it, she slipped and began to skid forward. She grunted, throwing her arms around, and took a few more slippery steps before she found a foothold again. She glanced down and saw spots of mud that were revealing her form. She wiped them off hastily and then froze still, eyes locked on her surroundings. The birds had gone quiet.
//Starter for @dollofiacon!//
When Iruru woke up, all she could hear was the low hum of machinery within the cockpit. Last night, when she'd arrived on Pekopon, the high wind and pouring rain had forced her to make a quick landing to first clearing she'd spotted in the midst of the forest below. She remembered waiting for sleep for hours, kept awake by the storm raging outside.
Now it was quiet when she exited her spaceship. It was early morning, and the pale blue sky peeking from between the treetops was clear and cloudless. There were several pools here and there on the ground, and when the Keronian stopped to listen, she could hear water dripping from leaves and branches. A bird sang somewhere. A voice of the forest, she thought, singing after the storm.
Iruru walked around the spaceship, making sure the camouflage was perfect and the ship hadn't been damaged by the storm. Then, checking once more she'd changed her own colors to match her surroundings, she left to explore the forest.
