Ballet Boys. Photos by By Peter Irungu Creative Lead & Stylist Bryan Emry
The term "Ballet Boys" typically refers to male ballet dancers or groups of young male dancers who challenge the stereotype that ballet is primarily a female-dominated art form. The concept has gained attention in recent years as male dancers increasingly inspire and break traditional gender norms in dance.
Ballet has increasingly become a platform for men to express themselves artistically and physically, blending athleticism with creativity. Male dancers often perform demanding, technical roles that highlight their power and grace.
Joyce "Tata" Nduku, affectionately known as the Granny Marathoner, is a Kenyan marathon enthusiast runner who has defied age barriers in the sport. She began her running journey at the age of 50, motivated by a desire to improve her health and prevent lifestyle diseases. At 56, she completed the Two Oceans ultra-marathon in South Africa, running 56 km as a birthday feat. Since then, Nduku has completed several World Marathon Majors, including the Chicago Marathon (2008), the New York Marathon (2019), and the Boston Marathon (2021). She hopes to eventually run in all six major marathons, with her sights set on Berlin, London, and Tokyo.

DEMBA CLOTHING
In June 2024, widespread protests erupted in Kenya over the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
During the protests, the youth utilized social media as a key organizing tool to mobilize, communicate, and amplify their grievances and various social media platforms emerged as pivotal tools for youth-led mobilization and activism.
Live streaming social media platforms such as Tiktok, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Whatsapp and Facebook were used to share details of planned demonstrations, provide real-time updates, and rally support across the country.
PUBLISHED!!! So glad to have one of my July protests photos published on the front page of the @readlux Magazine Issue 11/12. The issue highlights important stories about censorship, Fundraising in conflict zones in Gaza, Abortion and so many other important stories that need to be told. Thankful to the team for choosing this powerful photo of resilience. If you are in the US grab a copy for yourself from their website.
Finally got my copy of this book that features my photo on the cover. And with it important discussion about land and elections in Kenya by Kathleen Klaus.
