You've mentioned that healthy, properly enriched players will typically exhibit a mixture of traits (such as a builder exhibiting some redstoner traits) so do you have any advice on how to encourage traits like that?

(Side note, breaking character for a moment: I love these sorts of jokey is-the-x-video-cute blogs and I find it fun to kinda "yes, and" The Bit by asking Very Serious Sounding Questions about [x] husbandry, I hope you don't find it annoying ^-^)

Really, the best way to encourage your players to develop a healthy mix of traits is to make sure they have a good, interesting environment for it. If you're keeping a singleplayer server, make sure that that there is enough resources readily available for your player to experiment and branch out. When you're keeping multiple players in the same enclosure, then if they're well socialized and get along properly with the others, adopting new traits and habits will come naturally. Hope this helps!

What's your opinion on the use of /gamerule keepinventory true? I hear it can be very enriching for some players, especially those who become very stressed over losing items or being unable to find their base after exploring, but I do have some concerns about it potentially encouraging destructive habits

There is a fairly common misconception that keepinventory can encourage destructive behaviors in players, and it is a valid concern to have! Generally, though, it is very helpful for players who lean more into building and exploring than more survival oriented varieties, and only rarely causes real harm.

If your player has become more destructive with an addition of keepinventory to the enclosure, it could be a sign of stress or boredom, and I recommend getting that checked out.

It seems many varieties of players are very social creatures, but what would you say would be the player variety best suited to a single-player world? Is there any special care/enrichment needed for a player in a single-player world?

While it's true that players are social by nature, they can do just fine on their own! Personally, I've had the best experience keeping explorers and builders in singleplayer environments. (I STRONGLY advise against putting pvpers or roleplayers on their own, however.) All you need to do is make sure there are plenty of things to keep your player interested and engaged in their surroundings.

hi dilfjoelhills formerly known as fishfuckerjoel, my thoughts on this are completely in line with tumblr user robin rendiggity's: the 100 hours hardcore server is unethical! it's very simple! an easy solution to this problem would be allowing them to deal damage to each other, but maybe not killing. this would then allow them to ruin each other's lives while not necessarily ruining their series (although it still opens the possibility to do the latter, which is essential for the three of them)

im in need of some advice. i don't know what breed my player is, though im 75% sure hes a builder. though he sometimes uses redstone? please help.

Hello anon!

If your player is displaying more builder tendencies than anything else, then he most likely is a builder. A well cared for player that is properly socialized will adopt a wide variety of traits and behaviors, so it is not at all unusual for a builder to dabble in redstone, or vice versa. Nothing to be worried about at all!

PSA for new player owners!

Roleplayers are a fun and unique subspecies of player that can add a lot of interest to your server! However, there is an unfortunately common misconception that you can just toss them into any pre-existing server, or worse, leave them to their own devices in a singleplayer enclosure.

Roleplayers often come as a combination of another more common variety, such as redstoners, builders, pvpers, etc. They are very naturally social, and a roleplayer in a singleplayer environment is not a properly enriched player.

Also! If you're putting a roleplayer in a server with non-roleplayers, this isn't inherently bad! A well socialized player will mirror other players, and even start to pick up those traits on their own! Remember that if your roleplayer is in an environment with non-roleplayers that are not properly socialized, it can cause stress to all players involved.

Overall, a very rewarding player to keep, as long as you do lots of research!!

Hmm. This is a tricky one. By the looks of it, 2b2t is generally not the ideal environment for most players. For your every day builder, most redstoners, technical players, and other common varieties like that, it is NOT a healthy environment, and can cause high stress and aggression.

I disapprove of 2b2t because of this. There is a common misconception that a hands-off approach is best for wild-caught players, but this is NOT ALWAYS TRUE, and it depends on the individual. While some players will have room to thrive and innovate in a server such as 2b2t, others will be poorly socialized and display unnecessary stress and aggression.

Which is just a lengthy way of saying that running a server and putting your players in an enclosure similar to 2b2t is not always a bad thing, and if you make sure you're putting the right players in there, then it can provide excellent enrichment. However, 2b2t itself does not do these things, and players often not suited for that environment are put in there.

For one, a world with a small barrier is very rarely going to provide adequate enrichment, ESPECIALLY for a builder. And with the other variables here, what starts as friendly interactions between players could very quickly become hostile due to the unnecessary stress.
