Ronald Moon Jr., Man Beaten While Defending Community Center, Receives Amazing Support

An Ohio man badly beaten after confronting robbers stealing from his community center has received a tidal wave of support online.

Ronald Moon Jr., of Cincinnati, posted aheart-wrenching video Wednesday describing the events that led to his face and body getting covered in cuts and welts.

The HDP, a pro-Kurdish and leftist party, has been targeted by several attacks by the Turkish police, ultra-nationalist Turks and radical Islamists in the run-up to Sunday’s elections.

Earlier this week, unidentified assailants opened fire on an HDP campaign bus in the Kurdish-majority eastern Bingöl/Çewlig province, killing the driver. HDP bureaus have been targeted several times as well. Clashes at its rally in the eastern city of Erzurum on Thursday left dozens wounded. In May, two blasts targeting HDP’s headquarters in the southern cities of Adana and Mersin injured several people.

Yesterday, a far more violent attack took place. In Diyarbakir/Amed, 4 people were killed and 350 wounded after two bomb attacks at a HDP demonstration.The police started firing tear gas and used water cannons at the crowd immediately after the attack. Turkish police also opened fire on HDP election vehicle as the flock of people was ongoing to the hospitals. Today, there was no word of the attack on the headlines of most Turkish newspapers.

HDP is battling to exceed the tough 10 percent threshold required in Turkey to send MPs to parliament. Should it succeed, the presence of HDP MPs could block plans by the ruling party to approve a new constitution to hand more power to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. (x)
