Leeteukās speech for Jonghyun and Shinee
IU really took the time to acknowledge Jonghyun and the importance of mental health during her DAESANG speech, a moment thatās supposed to be all about celebrating her and her accomplishments as a musician⦠she couldāve used her speech to say the usual thank yous and I love yous to her fans, family, and friends, but this angel on earth took it one step further and congratulated all the other idols/artists for their hard work and reminded them that putting yourself first is completely okay and being unhappy sometimes is not a sign of weakness. Not only did she admit to millions of people that sheās felt the similar depression Jonghyun had (which mind you is a huge deal bc of how much of a public figure IU is and how literally so many fans and artists look up to her), but she willingly talked about all of this in front of so many young people and idols from every company, not to mention the fact that she was brave enough to do so in a society that looks down on mental health and illness in general⦠IU really did that and the audience thinks itās okay to blatantly scream and yell when their faves are on the screen for like a second while sheās talking and giving an important message no one else is willing to discuss???? This isnāt only a message to K-fans but to all of you: yes, supporting your faves and hyping them up is okay ā thatās what you do as fans, of course. But to completely disrespect other artists, ESPECIALLY when they are having their well-deserved moment to shine, makes you a person that no artist will ever be proud to have as a member of their fanbase. Remember that behaving like an asshole isnāt only going to affect you ā your actions are going to reflect the reputation of your fandom as a whole, and eventually they will reflect the reputation of the idol(s) you support.
moral of this story basically is to stop being a bitch and stan iu instead, this has been your daily psa thank u!!!

With Nam Taehyun's recent admission that he suffers from Bipolar Disorder, he has further opened the discussion on mental and emotional health of Idols.
So far, there had been a significant number of Idols who admitted to have suffered or are diagnosed with mental illnesses/disorders. 1. Bang Yongguk - Panic Disorder, Depression 2. Changjo (Teen Top) - Eating Disorder, Depression, Bipolar Disorder 3. P.O (Block B) - Stress Induced Schizophrenia 4. SM Milk Club (Onew, Taeyeon, Yoona, Leeteuk, Yoochun) - Depression 5. Park Bom - Depression, PTSD 6. IU - Anorexia 7. Wooshin (Up10tion) - Mental Stress/Exhaustion 8. Lee Joon - Bipolar Disorder, Depression 9. Kiseop (Ukiss) - Depression, Openly admitted to Suicidal thoughts 10. Sunggyu - Anxiety Disorder 11. Jun jin (Shinhwa) - Panic Disorder 12. Henry - ADHD 13. Sojung (Ladies Code) - Eating Disorder 14. Heechul - Depression 15. Suga - Depression 16. Himchan - Eating Disorder 17. T.O.P. - Anxiety Disorder, Depression 18. Amber (fx) & Jonghyun (Shinee) - Stress Induced Insomnia
I dream of a day that idols can talk about their mental health freely, without fear of backlash, judgment, and labels such as weak, broken, and retarded. That when they do comeback from a mental health break, they arenāt looked at with pity but with the same level of respect they had before their hiatus. That psychological and emotional health is as much of a priority as physical health and that support network such as therapists and psychiatrists are of easy access.
I had to research it thoroughly but Shineeās Key indirectly admitted to self harm, saying that ā()he had a bad habit and still has scarsā, after reaching out to someone in IG who posted pictures of her wounds/scars from cutting.
