The great thing about Jacob is he has a facade that is immediately recognizable and you can then see how he’s hiding a bleeding heart the whole time. He’s not convinced of his role as a middle man unaffected by the things around him so he can’t convince anyone else of it Unless they are also not paying attention. He doesn’t want to be the perfect Cerberus solider but he’s trying to convince the mirror he can be. Whatever

It's so crazy to me that Jack and Samara both explicitly call Jacob out as someone who has no idea who he is. And yet that part of his character is just... overlooked by so many people who write him off as a "boring" companion after taking him at face value.

It's wild to me how you see so much deep analysis of the characters whose quirks and flaws are close to the surface, but with the more subtle characters who actually BENEFIT from that excavation, whose deepest qualities are often their most interesting and who are actually rewarding to analyze, people don't seem inclined to bother.

And imo, out of all of the "boring" companions people write off, Jacob is done the dirtiest. By the fans and by the writers.

as a sidenote i enjoy the idea of nyreen meeting garrus on omega and finding him to be an absolutely pathetic loser and also that he is not the first turian Wanna Be Vigilante on omega with righteous fantasies just the latest and most arrogant. meanwhile nyreen is so completely and totally cynical about any pompous turian values that she's abandoned the game completely, has had to actually deal with her checkered past and has interest in the underlying structural problems with omega and she keeps running into this moping loser over and over and just starts avoiding him like the plague to do her own work, rebuild her moral code from the ground up. she never had the luxury to pretend she was a hero after all, she was punished in the hierarchy for her simple existence and got caught in her affair with aria and feels filthy to the bone and knows she cant wash it with more blood. the best she can do is actually try to fix her mistakes where she is now
