Being solo in the backcountry is one of the only times in my life that I’ve been able to exist as a body and a person without worrying about how other people might try to claim my body as their own. Crossing frozen rivers on my hands and knees, curling up in my sleeping bag, waking at dawn in a bed of dew—these are the moments when the shadow of that vulnerability fades, and the only thing that exists is the beautiful, indifferent landscape and my own strength and skills. Going alone into the wilderness is one of the ways I reclaim myself. It is an act of joy and an act of self-defense.

A general election is a such a cynical move on Theresa May's part. Government should be focusing on trying to make Brexit a success, instead of spaffing money on campaigns. MPs should be looking for how to work together to try and stabilise the political turmoil both locally and internationally, not looking to bulldoze opposition out of the way. This is greed, and fear and a complete disregard for the mental health of a country. There is already enough turmoil creating worry, enough unknowns about the future, enough genuine concerns about whether people will even be able to live here in a few years; Theresa May should be working towards creating a government that is skilled, informed and focussed on serving the people, having MPs run around the country, disrupting the work they are doing is not the way to go about this.

I'm genuinely at a loss currently on working out how to mobilise around this. I don't know where to turn, whose voices to shine the light on, whose cry I can rally round. Seven weeks is no time, what an utterly selfish move. You don't have to be this person, Theresa, you can still change.

Endlessly disappointed in Prime Minister Theresa May's weak stance on condemnation, but encouraged that so many other politicians are speaking out against this distorted and ugly world view.
